Absolute classic. Not like the S*** the put out now. Bring back Jamie and the Magic Torch anyday. Scares me to think I'm so old notice at 41 lol. Like watched that over 30 years ago ;-)
A blatant rip-off of the old Sparky comic character, Invisible Dick. He shone his torch at things to make them invisible in the 1960s and early 70s. Like Joey and his Magic Torch (my late 1960s rip-off of Invisible Dick, but I was only 8 so only I ever got to read my comic every week.)
What a great childhood memory-surely one of the very best themes to a kids programme (Dogtanian and the Muskehounds had a very nice theme song too,a little later in the early 80s)
When I was 5 I had a torch which shone in three different colours; red, green and blue, and I used to try shining it on my bedroom floor at night to make a magic portal to Cuckoo Land. :)
When Tony's ice cream van came to our road, we used to lick our ice-creams flat into the cornet and run up and down the street singing 'Jamie, Jamie, Jamie and the magic torch!'
I named my first son Jamie after this cartoon, lol, I fell to sleep watching it when I was a kid, and had a fantastic dream that I went on an adventure with the kid Jamie. Then years later I still had good memories of that dream and the cartoon. And so Jamie got his name.
i remember even as a child thinking the opening creepy music before the guitar was really good, shows like this and mr benn made playing really easy becuase they where all about imagination
How many people were dissapointed as a child when you bought a torch and it didn't do this, no matter how many hours you spent pointing it at your bedroom floor? This really was an ace show, don't make them like this anymore :(
for years whenever i heard 'running down a dream ' by tom petty and the heartbreakers i have thought about 'jamie and the magic torch' opening theme, then i was probably about three when the video came about.
