  • Jamie and the Magic L.S.D Torch lol

  • YEAH MUTHAFUCKAS!

  • i was born in 75 and remember this well

  • Absolute classic. Not like the S*** the put out now. Bring back Jamie and the Magic Torch anyday. Scares me to think I'm so old notice at 41 lol. Like watched that over 30 years ago ;-)

  • fookin classic

  • was there ever a greater opening to a cartoon than this one?

  • @vashna3799 Never, simply the best : )

  • S'funny how I remembered the theme tune as having really heavy guitars and pounding drums - maybe a rerecord is due? }:oD

  • A blatant rip-off of the old Sparky comic character, Invisible Dick. He shone his torch at things to make them invisible in the 1960s and early 70s. Like Joey and his Magic Torch (my late 1960s rip-off of Invisible Dick, but I was only 8 so only I ever got to read my comic every week.)

  • great theme tune, love the start....this song was the reason I wanted to play piano/guitar....& take drugs

(ps my dog is an English sheepdog called Wordsworth) Representing the 70's!!

  • lol@Boksally

  • R.I.P. animator Mark Hall. And thank you :)

  • our science teacher put it on cos there was a GIRL called Jamie in the class lol...

  • My names Jamie :3

  • Dads all over the country had a license to sneak into the kids bedroom with their magic torch on display

  • What a great childhood memory-surely one of the very best themes to a kids programme (Dogtanian and the Muskehounds had a very nice theme song too,a little later in the early 80s)

  • I miss the 70's :(

  • I love you Jamie

  • The 70's was a great time to be a kid, no cares, hot summers & star wars!

I loved this, great fun for me as I'm Jamie (but no touch!) You can't have everything!... :)

  • When I was 5 I had a torch which shone in three different colours; red, green and blue, and I used to try shining it on my bedroom floor at night to make a magic portal to Cuckoo Land. :)

  • "If I hadn't really been there I'd think that I was tripping."

  • Wordsworth looks a lot like Schafer from the Raccoons lol

  • Any Indie or Rock band worth their salt should cover this tune. One of the best kids tv shows ever!

  • This was by far the best kids programme. They should remake it into a film like they did with the magic roundabout.

  • what the fuck?

how many drugs were taken in the making of this?

  • love this

  • Man, the 70s were weird.

  • He must have been knackered up all night every night :-)

  • Ah, the good old 70's and its LSD inspired children's telly. They don't make 'em like that anymore. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  • @cameraguy38 Totally agree, when we didn't have a care in the world :-)

  • @cameraguy38 is it because there is a lack of LSD

  • @cameraguy38 Must have been smokin'/droppin' the same stuff that the Kroffts were doing...

  • @cameraguy38 was this out in the 70s?

  • @cameraguy38 suppose it was looking at the hair

  • When Tony's ice cream van came to our road, we used to lick our ice-creams flat into the cornet and run up and down the street singing 'Jamie, Jamie, Jamie and the magic torch!'

  • @BokSally Brilliant wish i'd thought of that

  • the days when kids intro songs were decent tunes in their own right!

  • Simply Awesome

  • wendynichson1 I named my son after this too!For some reason our Magic Torch wont speak to me any more!

  • strange while watching this all a could think about is doctor who and his sonic screwdriver.

  • Top quality, kids progs now are just hyper cack. Dungeons & Dragons was superb also.

  • The Cuckoo Land inhabitants look like characters from 'Yellow Submarine'.

  • I named my first son Jamie after this cartoon, lol, I fell to sleep watching it when I was a kid, and had a fantastic dream that I went on an adventure with the kid Jamie. Then years later I still had good memories of that dream and the cartoon. And so Jamie got his name.

  • i was dead scared of the start when it was dark ,when i was wee .i can get a wee bit scared now watching start

  • @lynnerob33 Kind of know what you mean. it used to make me feel sad. :(

  • I could imagine The Rolling Stones singing this.

  • I don't know of any kids program (adults program either) that promoted drug use in the title sequence quite as much as this.

  • i remember even as a child thinking the opening creepy music before the guitar was really good, shows like this and mr benn made playing really easy becuase they where all about imagination

  • @1991Wilbo I was just thinking that it's surprising it hasn't been sampled. Sounds like something from a DJ Shadow tune.

  • i remember even as a child thinking the opening creepy music before the guitar was really good,

  • what a class programme shame they don't make them like this any more!

  • I can barley remember this i was at the beginning of infant school when this was on but i remember calling my mate jamie and the magic torch

  • i only know about this because Noel Fielding said about it on a never mind the buzzcocks thing - i'm glad he did :)

  • Remebering trying to shine my torch on the floor to see if it actually worked like jamies.

  • @weescotchegg1 lol and did it? =L

  • A very haunting 33 seconds of intro.

  • Brill... love it

  • "Just remember, play with your magic tourch too much and you'll go blind"- Jimmy Carr.

  • I remember watching this at my Gr8 Grans. Still makes me smile even today.

  • first part of intro before the beat starts still gives me goose bumps to this day

  • Stunningly beautiful intro, that and the music will stay with me forever.

  • This was made the year i was born.....how old do i feel now! apart from 34 that is....

  • bring it back,

  • Made in Manchester!

  • How many people were dissapointed as a child when you bought a torch and it didn't do this, no matter how many hours you spent pointing it at your bedroom floor? This really was an ace show, don't make them like this anymore :(

  • @Stump2502 - I didn't do that but I did cut out a bat to stick on my torch... it didn't really work either.

  • I heard it on watchdog! :D

  • who heard this on yesterdays watchdog lol

  • Torch? thats a flash light. Jamie and the Magic Flash Light.

  • @bluemime86 We call a flashlight a torch, my friend....hem.

  • this actually made me real sentimental all-of-a-sudden. One of my faves from boyhood.

  • for years whenever i heard 'running down a dream ' by tom petty and the heartbreakers i have thought about 'jamie and the magic torch' opening theme, then i was probably about three when the video came about.

  • I loved this when I was a kid - thank you :D x

  • If you are reading this Jacob I pity you, how low can you go to read the COMMENTS, I mean do you really want to read some fat guys opinion on some cheaply produced 5 year olds telly programme from about 40 years ago. But all that aside its a pretty awesome intro.:D

  • If you are watching this jacob I pity you, I really do. But it is pretty awsome intro all the same

  • mg ,it takes me so many years back in old good times

    unbelievable

  • Ah this one takes me back !!

  • i remember this being on at lunchtime with rainbow when i had home dinners

  • @earth123ism me too!

  • This was a favourite of mine growing up. For some reason as an adult I thought his name was simon. Ironically though my first born is named Jamie.

  • what a great childrens programe this was loved it

  • Ah, this program was the bane of everyone in britain who was called jamie in School :). you have no idea how many times I had this sung to me!!!

  • up to about 00:30s, sounds like a musical Halloween song.

  • One of my favourite childhood cartoons along with Chorlton and The Wheelies. Remember going on holiday with my Aunty Bessie as a kid n thinkin the holiday camp was great cos it had a 'Jamie slide' (helterskelter) on it, I spent nearly all day everyday on the darn thing!

  • psycadelic flashing lights, funky music, and talking animals... so this was where it all started to go wrong for me!!

  • @TheGhosty78 Oh, Christ - no bloody respite at all, was there?

I still occasionally get it now. The reply is considerably more obscene than back then when I didn't know any swear words...

  • I take it Jamie never got any sleep at all?

  • Possibly the best into song I have EVER heard in my life.

  • This should appear on kids programmes today, as they would love it as much as we did.
