Good match, I enjoyed watching the display of technical jiujitsu. If I may offer some criticism, however:
1) Work on your cross-side escapes. Don't stall on the bottom.
2) When in guard, establish control, break their posture and then attack. In the video, you just wanted to throw your legs up for triangles. Of course he is gonna escape.
Other than that, buddy, you've done a good job. It'd be great if we get to compete against each other sometime!
looking good bro....how often do you compete man? seems like you're in a comp every month. There's fuck all on up here as you know besides coops comps and the state qualifiers
haha, nah this was my most recent match which happened shortly after i got my purple. i've skipped the last couple of comps cos i'm not in good enough shape at the moment. skills are improving, just don't train enough for various reasons. i've started doing weights once a week though and i'm trying to improve the cardio, so i'll be in a comp early next year.
Don't worry about it, the same happened to me in the comp because the ref gave the other guy points for a take down because he did a foot sweep at the same time I jumped to guard. Just a learning experience.
same thing in my match, you'll find it happens a fair bit. i was under the impression that they can't award the takedown unless they're touching your leg or something on the way down. my opponent didn't but still got the points - but that's life. he had enough points to be me anyways.
You're definitely better than me, but thought might just mention, I didn't see you fighting for the underhook while in half guard. If you have the half guard, even if they think they can, often times they'll reconsider a pass, because there's the chance yo ucan take their back. If nothing else, to hold that position, it's first and foremost priority to get that underhook. Then you can work on getting the knee in to get off your back and start working sweeps. Half guard has been my latest trial.

Good fight man.
You were close with those two triangles, too bad you didn't manage to sink them tight enough.
How did you fare in your division as a new purple belt?

I was under the same impression, if you pull guard he has to have a grip on your pant leg for it to count as a takedown.
But I guess some people understand BJJ, and those who can't, ref it :)
