  • whats the song

  • Best web comic I have ever read!

  • at beginning of the video. my heart started beating 100x faster.

bechose this song were used in the first little big planet. :DD

  • Loved the bearding sequence.

  • I really liked this! :D I've liked the comic for a few months now, and now I get on everyday just to make sure you haven't updated it, haha.

I love the way you draw your characters, and the way they style has subtly changed throughout the process. I'm currently working on a little fan picture of all the characters.(: Well - the main ones. Haha.

  • Haha, I lold at 4:40's power-montage of Will's stubble being drawn in. :)

  • that's amazing, man xo

  • Daaaaamn, that was dope! The artist is awesome. But that shit looked like it took a long time to finish even in fast forward.

  • Sounds like you've been playing LittleBigPlanet lol

    Cool comic

  • AMAZING Good job

  • so draw it!

  • You have a great comic man! Ive seen it on your website

    i like it.

which program you use for this?

  • WOW.... o_o

  • i that it was....BRILIANT I LOVED IT!

  • Nice job! It's cool to watch work in progress :)

  • OP is such a sincere and well drawn comic.

A lot different from some drama comic that's used as a marketing tool to sell t-shirts or a sprite comic with an author asking for their fans to pay for their cat's vet bills.

  • nice job as ;-)

u should up load some more vids it helps me to learn about how using ms

  • whats that progam?..

  • man, and here i thought the final project was amazing on its own. thanks for sharing yr process

  • Wow Meredith, I bow before your skills both for your skills drawing the comic and editing the vid. :)

  • What is the music name?

    Its great!!!!

    I Liked the comic!

  • Atlas by the Battles.

  • Note to self: get Manga Studio

  • i have it and never used it... is it anygood? i spent 60 bucks on it

  • HOW DO YOU DO THAT

  • are those vectors?

  • Thanks for the mostly unintentional band recommendation. Also, keep up the good work.

  • octopus pie + Battles = <3<3<3<3

  • octopus pie + Battles = <3<3<3

  • good song choice.

  • I can't believe you did all that in six minutes!

  • lol

  • A piece of art in and of itself. The music syncs up nicely with the strokes in some places!

  • Holy shit, you work so hard. And so fast.

  • I know! It only took six minutes!

  • Hey, I recognize that song! They used it on an episode of Torchwood, "A Day In The Death" ;)

  • u r quick

  • that's quite awesome. :)

  • that's really cool

  • This is really awesome! Thank you for sharing, you have a really neat process. The music was a good choice too. HARDCORE COMIC CREATION!

  • awesome!

  • BATTLES!!!

  • a vendor tried to sell me manga studio at Dragon Con last year. i scoffed cause i had photoshop(and old ps anyway). is manga studio really handier for this type of work than ps?

  • I certainly couldn't say it's MORE handy. But it does what I need it to.

  • ahhh. gotcha.

  • Wow. It's awesome to watch you draw. I am a really big fan of your webcomic and I loove the style in which you draw. I have Manga Studio and I never really got around to messing with it too much, it's good to see someone draw with it so I know what it's capable of.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Little do we know, that video was played in real-time.

  • Needless to say I am very tired.

  • Fantastic music choice haha and love the comic :D

  • Manga Studio looks like a lot of fun! Also you are amazing!

  • the drawing made me go, hmm the artist must be very devoted to Octopus Pie and very consumed with her work.

and the music made me go, woah comic artists are rock stars and in motorcycle gangs and possibly have all killed men!

  • Are you kidding me? Man, I wish I had computer skills.

  • Great video Meredith (it is you right? ^^) and good choice of music too. I was really impressed by this strip so I was shocked to see you did a video of it.

I'm in the process of making a 4 panel manga webcomic and chose Manga Sutdio because of the screentones. Unfortunately it's more complicated than I thought, compared to PS. How did you master it? You make it look easy! Last night I gave in and bought Manga Studios For Dummies so Im hoping it'll answer some of my questions. Seeing how you

  • did your comic helps me plan out how I'll do mine. One thing I worry about is how big to do the pages because I worry so much about the future and how I will get it printed. I'm not even sure if it matters aslong as I use vector. :S Is it too much to ask for a step by step tutorial? :D Okay that's asking too much ;) Again excellent video and thanks for inspiring me ^^

  • Manga Studio takes a bit of practice. Most people get frustrated and tell me I'm crazy, so I hope you figure it out.

Just keep your page size consistent and you'll be okay. I opted for a 4:3 aspect ratio for mine. You don't need to draw in vectors if you keep your stuff high-resolution (at least 300 dpi.. 600 is better).

  • Thanks for the tips Meredith :) I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually, the Dummies book will help too. I ordered it the same time as my (Scott Kurtz signed) How To Make Webcomics book. I can't wait to get my hands on them. :D

Oh one last question, how long did it take you to do all this? I'm gonna take a guess at 2-3 hours maybe? :)

  • Everything you see here took 4 hours. Factor in brainstorming and thumbnailing and the whole process was about 5-6 hours.

  • Still that's incredibly fast, you could get atleast two done a day. Though you'd be pretty dead by the end of it :D

Okay I know I said the last one was the final question but perhaps one more? Do you prefer to work in silence or do you have something on in the background like TV, music or even a podcast?

  • Silence for ideas and writing, music/podcasts for inking.

  • why do you prefer mangastudio over other programs?

  • It takes up less memory than Photoshop and has just the right amount of tools. I also really like the screentone tool, very easy to use.

  • Amazing, you're my hero. Haha the best part was giving Will his beard.

  • do you use a tablet?

  • I use a Cintiq.

  • what size?

is it the best quality product for digital drawing that you know?

    I really want one... -_-

wonderful vid! =) love the comic!

  • Mine is 21 inches, which I believe is the standard now. It is absolutely the best product, I'm so happy to have one!

  • This was actually very fun and a lot of work! :)

  • Wow, I need to buy this book.

  • Love it. What do you listen to (if anything) when you're working? Because this is awesome.

  • I listen to a ton of stuff. Non-lyrical beats (Daft Punk, Battles etc.) are usually best for working. I also like to hear podcasts while I work. :)

  • Nice work!

Panel 7, where are his fingers?

  • haha yeah I looked at it after making this video and couldn't believe I drew it that way.

Oh well. Improved it on the final comic.

  • That was quite a nice video; thank you!

Oh, and I have to say, it caught me by surprise when "Atlas" starting playing. I thought my iTunes had turned on accidentally or something....

  • Holy blap that was great! How long did that take you to do? Shit, I might just have to get myself a Cintiq too!

  • That was just awesome. I love these watching how things get made.

  • Not only do I get to see one of my favorite comics getting dressed to go out, but I get hip to more frigged up music for my ear canal. Double awesome! P.S. Just received the OctoPi book, and I loooove it.

  • amazing!

    and whats that kickass music??

  • Thank you!

    It is "Atlas" by Battles.

  • Can we get a time lapse video of you thinking & writing the story? =P

  • haha. That would basically involve me taking walks and scribbling in a notebook all day. Not nearly as interesting.

  • Maybe if you sped it up REALLY fast!

  • awesome! this is always fun to watch how they're made

  • Damn your good. Are you using just a tablet or have you got one of them fancy Cintiqs?

  • fancy Cintiq!

  • Lookin' good!
