I really liked this! :D I've liked the comic for a few months now, and now I get on everyday just to make sure you haven't updated it, haha.
I love the way you draw your characters, and the way they style has subtly changed throughout the process. I'm currently working on a little fan picture of all the characters.(: Well - the main ones. Haha.
A lot different from some drama comic that's used as a marketing tool to sell t-shirts or a sprite comic with an author asking for their fans to pay for their cat's vet bills.
a vendor tried to sell me manga studio at Dragon Con last year. i scoffed cause i had photoshop(and old ps anyway). is manga studio really handier for this type of work than ps?
Wow. It's awesome to watch you draw. I am a really big fan of your webcomic and I loove the style in which you draw. I have Manga Studio and I never really got around to messing with it too much, it's good to see someone draw with it so I know what it's capable of.
Great video Meredith (it is you right? ^^) and good choice of music too. I was really impressed by this strip so I was shocked to see you did a video of it.
I'm in the process of making a 4 panel manga webcomic and chose Manga Sutdio because of the screentones. Unfortunately it's more complicated than I thought, compared to PS. How did you master it? You make it look easy! Last night I gave in and bought Manga Studios For Dummies so Im hoping it'll answer some of my questions. Seeing how you
did your comic helps me plan out how I'll do mine. One thing I worry about is how big to do the pages because I worry so much about the future and how I will get it printed. I'm not even sure if it matters aslong as I use vector. :S Is it too much to ask for a step by step tutorial? :D Okay that's asking too much ;) Again excellent video and thanks for inspiring me ^^
Manga Studio takes a bit of practice. Most people get frustrated and tell me I'm crazy, so I hope you figure it out.
Just keep your page size consistent and you'll be okay. I opted for a 4:3 aspect ratio for mine. You don't need to draw in vectors if you keep your stuff high-resolution (at least 300 dpi.. 600 is better).
Thanks for the tips Meredith :) I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually, the Dummies book will help too. I ordered it the same time as my (Scott Kurtz signed) How To Make Webcomics book. I can't wait to get my hands on them. :D
Oh one last question, how long did it take you to do all this? I'm gonna take a guess at 2-3 hours maybe? :)
Still that's incredibly fast, you could get atleast two done a day. Though you'd be pretty dead by the end of it :D
Okay I know I said the last one was the final question but perhaps one more? Do you prefer to work in silence or do you have something on in the background like TV, music or even a podcast?
Not only do I get to see one of my favorite comics getting dressed to go out, but I get hip to more frigged up music for my ear canal. Double awesome! P.S. Just received the OctoPi book, and I loooove it.

the drawing made me go, hmm the artist must be very devoted to Octopus Pie and very consumed with her work.
and the music made me go, woah comic artists are rock stars and in motorcycle gangs and possibly have all killed men!

Everything you see here took 4 hours. Factor in brainstorming and thumbnailing and the whole process was about 5-6 hours.

Silence for ideas and writing, music/podcasts for inking.

why do you prefer mangastudio over other programs?
Andur 3 years ago
It takes up less memory than Photoshop and has just the right amount of tools. I also really like the screentone tool, very easy to use.
