@misunderstoodblood blurry? lol did you raise the resolution to 720p in the bottom right hand corner of the vid before watching it? Because it doesn't look blurry to me, or anyone else that I know of.
I gotta get one of these vixias... my friend had a vegas movie studio that is a few years old,I didn't like how the features worked. Whats wrong with the free windows movie maker?
@cmanleyspy actually exohexRuth is half correct there - Sony Vegas seems to be a bit erratic with many people, and seems to only be able to edit Sony AVCHD and Panasonic files too. I, and many others, have problems editing any other type of AVCHD, but other people don't seem to have this issue.
well im sorry to hear that you have some trouble with trying to find a correct software to edit your videos with. I'm kinda in the same boat now, I just bought a new iMac and i absolutely hate iMovie so idk what software to use. I don't want to spend $1400.00 on Final Cut Pro yet Sony Vegas doesn't make a Mac osx version :(
I've had a canon vixia hg20 for about a year now, but was never able to convert the files so that I could edit them...how (if at all) did you convert the file type to a workable one? thanks!
Well I started editing using my windows vista movie maker, but after about 2 months I wanted more lol I went out and bought Sony Vegas Studio 9. It's a bit complicated for a beginner but it's great software for editing :)
p.s. Awesome F-350!! =D what kinda strobe kit is that?
Sony Vegas 9... I get confused about the versions because Ill see it for sale at 150.00 or even 700 dollars. Where do you buy the legit full version? Oh, it came from the police department. I bought the truck from a motorcycle cop :) I love trucks!!! Thank you! very kind
If you dont mind my input, about 6 months ago I got ready to move up from WMM, but only wanted to spend $100-$150. I downloaded the Sony Vegas free trial, but it seemed a lot more complicated. I ended up going with PInnacle Studio. Its a LOT more user friendly to use!
PInnacle Studio is indeed a lot more user friendly but it's more for those who are still doing your basic video editing techniques. I admit to sony vegas being rather complicated but then again it's not a beginners software. I just got an iMac and I'm now using FCP for some of my larger productions and wow...that is complicated lmao
do u think i can make like music videos with this cam or no? i wanna know if like u can move the camera while recording and if it will still look blurry or good
playing things back in slow motion has to do with editing software mainly, not the camcorder. However, when viewing the video you just recorded in playback, you can slow it down to 1/2 speed i believe.
It's very easy to upload the video files from the camcorder to the computer. All you do is plug it into your computer through a USB cable (supplied in the box) and select computer, and then drag and drop the files to a folder on you computer to copy them. Ad no you don't need any other gadgets lol =]
anything less than this you won't really be able to put a "fish eye" on. if you don't want 1080 HD then just go to best buy and get a camcorder for like 250 bucks lol
alright so the accual fisheyes r way to expensive? and one more question i need a good but cheap camera, one with good fps, one that could use a fisheye, good quality, and probly semi good low light filming, ik its a long stretch but is there any cameras out there like that?
question for this camera my dad bought one, and i dont have enogough money to buy a good camra so i use this one and i like to film skateboarding and stuff and was wondering can this camera take a fisheye lense?
yeah, but it's not an actual fish eye lens (that would be wayyy too expensive) it's more of a filter you screw on and it gives a wider viewing angle, so basically give the effect of a fish eye (hard to tell the difference) just google "fish eye filter for canon HG20"
I really want this camera but it's soo expensive (for me). It's like $600 or $700...how much did you pay for it? It's nice to see someone do a test with people in it...and I love that MGMT song.
Awesome! How is the automatic focus on it? And does it do well in low light? And does it handle movement well? (when you move the actual camera is it smooth?) Sorry about the questions, I just want to make sure that this is the right camera for me ;) Picture quality is awesome!
focus is great, macro is incredible!!! Focuses fast and smoothly. No camera blur when doing quick movement shots, and its pretty good in low light, a bit of grain but thats to be expected with all cameras that are under $6,000 lol
I have a question, when you import the video that you filmed onto a Comp, can you import it into any editing software and whats the file type like .WMV and such.. Thanks
well when you first import the raw video file onto your computer it will be in (.MTS) format. This can be edited using windows vista movie maker, iMovie, and Sony Vegas Studio =]
incredibly smooth actually, it surprised me because I thought it would be "twitchy" without a physical wheel but it focuses rather smoothly on manual setting
Wow, this may have convinced me into getting the Canon Vixia HG20! Lol I was stuck between this model and saving up for a pro camera, but this quality beats my expectations! And I want a car lol so...Thanks! :D
i have this exact camera. but the editing software that it comes with is pretty slow. well its like that on my computer. Do you use the software to edit your films or like windows movie maker.
both the HV30 and the HG20 have the same exact specs and record quality, so you choose. I'd hate to have to depend on a stupid mini dv, thats why i got the hard drive.
I've been looking into the Canon HV30 (or 40) because it has an external mic terminal and it's HD. But the probalem for me was TAPE (MiniDV) and its annoying to run out, rewind, fast forward and capture video
Starting looking and found the HG20 WITH AND EXTERNAL MIC OPTION AND HARD DISK format saw this video and DEFINITELY GETTING THE HG20
aweomse, ive taken some footage that looks good on but all the files when they appear on the computer are .CPI and nothing seems to recognise this. can someone tell me how to convert these or somethign so i can edit my footage?
hey i like this vid its good. im planning on getting myself an HG20 for making actual movies, would you reccomend it? it looks like it can handle it well enough.
I'm very impressed with the quality. Usually adding music and compressing using windows movie maker kills the quality. I can only imagine the how good it is with a compressor like sorensom
I didn't use any converting program, I just edited the raw movie file (straight off the camera) on windows vista movie maker and then "published it" in 720p at 5.9kbps
well guess what dip shit? I have this camera and I use fucking movie maker. Yes I have Sony Vegas Studio 8.0 but that shit is stupid as hell and I can throw a vid together easier with movie maker than any other program.
Sorry. Vegas is very easy when you get the hang of it. If you think vegas is hard, then try after effects or 3ds max. Those are really hard. I wasn't even talking to you. I was replying to KaiChippi.
This video doesn't look like it was made in movie maker.
I used my Tiffen Magnum XT Tripod, edited it in my Windows Vista Movie Maker, and it only took me like a couple days to figure out how to take advantage of all the great effects (focus, aperture, lighting)
Thanks for sharing this video. Im set to buy an HG20 soon and i want to hear reviews and comments like this. Overall, would you say that this is a good camera? User friendly? Any flaws that would make me change my mind in buying an HG20? Thanks.
I just bought an HG20 myself...nice vid! How did you convert the .MTS file to something manageable for Windows Vista?... Well if you do have a PC that is.
um i may sound like a retard but i have a mac and and the vixia hg20 and i'm wondering how to get video from the camera to final cut express or even just on to my hard drive? if anyone could help thank you very much.
With Pro-Camcorders you would usually have to use a Firewire cable and link it to the back of your Mac. If this camera doesn't have a Firewire port, you should try a USB and link that from the camera to the mac and use your Final Cut to **Capture** your footage from the camera to your editing software.
This is amazing! I'm planning on buying this camcorder and this video is really helpful. Btw, i know this is time to pretend, but it's different from my version. What's it called?
WHAT HD!? I have this camera and I filmed a video with this and uploaded to youtube and it wasn't HD!!!! It was friggen high quality..... I have a camera that uploads videos to high quality and I wanted HD so I got this and it doesn't upload in Hd how do you get it to upload in HD!!
Is this Camcorder worth buying? Currently it is about $600. And i really would like a nice HD Camcorder. For best price for the quality. Do you think it is worth buying it? tell me your though on the Canon Vixia HG20.
This camera is actually better quality then the Sony HDR - SR11 from what I have been looking at on You Tube. Why is that? The Sony is like 300 dollars more.
Hey Man, I'm thinkin of getting this camcorder, the main thing i'm looking for is one that has good sound quality, was wondering what your opinion was of the HG20 in that respect?? thanks
honestly..this camera has one of the most amazing sound processors in it. Don't hold me to this but i believe it records audio around 290 kbps.. so basically like CD quality..or "High Def Audio" It records in Dobly Stereo and also has a built-in attachment for a surround sound mic
sounds great! is there a mic-jack on it? and if not does it record at a high volume? thanks so much for your help btw, i really dont want to rush out and buy something i'll regret!
yeah, there's a built-in mic jack..i believe it's a 1/8 headphone style plug. But there is also an "advanced accessory chute" where you can hook up a surround sound mic. as for it recording in a high volume..this will pick up soft sounds from distances up to like 300 feet away..and with the (att) feature turned on it will block out "background noise". your welcome
I don't own either one but the Cannon HV30 records with tapes with might be annoying, and the Cannon HG20 records on hard drive or memory stick. And since they both have amazing quality, I would suggest the HG20 because i think it would kinda stink having to use tapes.
ok so like i said i got the camera and made then rush deliver it. Ive been fooling around with it all day. now it came to editing... running into some issues. ok lets start with what did u use to edit this film and if u converted from m2ts before editing and if you did what did u use for that. editing seems like a nightmare on this thing. ( i dont really like the software it came with) and alot of other software like adobe dont support m2ts. this is all your fault so help me fix it lol j/k
lol well if you have windows vista you should be able to open up the CANON drive in my computer to obtain the raw MTS file and then drag it into Windows Movie Maker, that will edit it :)
if you have a Mac then you should be able to use iMovie
I use windows movie maker and Sony Vegas Studio Platinum 8
why is the image so blurry if it's HD? Please don't think i'm criticising, but other videos are a lot clearer. I'm thinking of buying this camcorder

that creates more "blur frames"

If this camera doesn't have a Firewire port, you should try a USB and link that from the camera to the mac and use your Final Cut to **Capture** your footage from the camera to your editing software.

Is this Camcorder worth buying? Currently it is about $600. And i really would like a nice HD Camcorder. For best price for the quality. Do you think it is worth buying it? tell me your though on the Canon Vixia HG20.
I appreciate,
Thanks.

This camera is actually better quality then the Sony HDR - SR11 from what I have been looking at on You Tube. Why is that? The Sony is like 300 dollars more.

What kind of battery life does this get? I'm thinking of buying it.

Hey Man, I'm thinkin of getting this camcorder, the main thing i'm looking for is one that has good sound quality, was wondering what your opinion was of the HG20 in that respect?? thanks
ciaran66 3 years ago
honestly..this camera has one of the most amazing sound processors in it. Don't hold me to this but i believe it records audio around 290 kbps.. so basically like CD quality..or "High Def Audio" It records in Dobly Stereo and also has a built-in attachment for a surround sound mic
cmanleyspy 3 years ago
sounds great! is there a mic-jack on it? and if not does it record at a high volume? thanks so much for your help btw, i really dont want to rush out and buy something i'll regret!
ciaran66 3 years ago
yeah, there's a built-in mic jack..i believe it's a 1/8 headphone style plug. But there is also an "advanced accessory chute" where you can hook up a surround sound mic. as for it recording in a high volume..this will pick up soft sounds from distances up to like 300 feet away..and with the (att) feature turned on it will block out "background noise". your welcome

My Question is Which One is Better?
superchristian89 2 years ago
what do you mean exactly?
cmanleyspy 2 years ago
Which Camera do you think is better between The Canon HV30 Or The Canon HG20.
superchristian89 2 years ago
I don't own either one but the Cannon HV30 records with tapes with might be annoying, and the Cannon HG20 records on hard drive or memory stick. And since they both have amazing quality, I would suggest the HG20 because i think it would kinda stink having to use tapes.

ok so like i said i got the camera and made then rush deliver it. Ive been fooling around with it all day. now it came to editing... running into some issues. ok lets start with what did u use to edit this film and if u converted from m2ts before editing and if you did what did u use for that. editing seems like a nightmare on this thing. ( i dont really like the software it came with) and alot of other software like adobe dont support m2ts. this is all your fault so help me fix it lol j/k
methred36 3 years ago
lol well if you have windows vista you should be able to open up the CANON drive in my computer to obtain the raw MTS file and then drag it into Windows Movie Maker, that will edit it :)
if you have a Mac then you should be able to use iMovie
I use windows movie maker and Sony Vegas Studio Platinum 8
