so how does this play? I'm seriously debating getting this or a Schecter Damien 7, the only problem with the damien is the 400+ price and i figure for under $200 you cant go wrong as long as it plays good right? or should i just save until i can afford the damien?
@Seandude223 you see some people think this style all sounds a like just lots of fast notes. I like the energy of it but shred does not compare to hearing Robben Ford smoke a jazz blues tune :) But I used to play this style so I still like it
If you guys wanna see a really great shredder look at KaniGuitar's vids. This guy fuckin rocks! He has an amazing mixture of style and tech. It's not random Herman Li rabble (but anybody who likes this probably thinks DragonFags is the shit so idk). I'm not saying this guy sucks, but he hasn't developed style. If you want some constructive criticsm (take it or not) spread your sweeps out. Show us that you're good at more than just sweeping and altenate picking cus that's not what it's all about
@Pr0fess0rSasquatch Who are you to say what playing guitar is "all about"? Just because you don't like a certain style doesn't mean it's not appealing to some. My point below is that you're masking the desire to be able to play this way by compromising and saying it has no "soul" instead of applying the effort required to get there. A "bluesman" can't play what he wants if his technique and coordination aren't up to the task. You should put more effort into practicing instead of criticizing.
@EcoliUVA You're right about that and I appologize for being so critical before. But my opinion stands: I don't think he sucks or what he does requires no skill I just personally think he's limiting himself to a few common (if difficult) techniques. I would be more impressed if he broadened his horizons a bit and did something unexpected. But I'm not masking anything. I don't want to play this way because I don't feel I could express myself as well as with blues.
here's where I have to agree with you. The techniques he's clearly focused on produce an elaborate, exotic sound with intense speed. It's a speed that's a challenge for me to match if I don't do a couple days of exercising the proper techniques where as players like Cameron can deliver it at the drop of a hat.
The short coming in my opinion is less soul and artistry to the composition. I've worked on a soulful fantasy sound taken even further than Vai and Satch. Speed becomes a trap.
But - even if I don't much care for it - if it's what you love then it's what you love. Keep doing and improving what you love to do. Maybe some day you'll change my mind.
Sure, I can't shred or do all your fancy sweeps but I got soul. I scream and cry through my guitar, not speak gibberish. And sure I'm not the best at what I do but I'm pretty damn good even if I say so myself. Besides, anyone who actually hears and respects music knows the best guitarists play jazz - with the exception of classical players of course. But as said... Classical = skill; Jazz = heart and soul.
@Pr0fess0rSasquatch Your posts are just dripping with jealousy. Same old tired "argument" I've heard a million times. @SchecterC1Shredder, ignore this clown. Thanks for the vid; considering one of these.
@EcoliUVA It's the "same old tired argument" cus it's true. I'll admit it would be cool to solo as fast as he does but I wouldn't play the same sweeps and scales over and over... and even then it would get boring after a while. Shredders are limited by technique and formality (with some exceptions like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani), but a bluesman can play whatever he wants, however he wants to play it.
@Pr0fess0rSasquatch you're ignorance is really extreme. Blues is the most limited style of lead guitar playing that exists. The changes are so rudimentary that you all sound exactly the same worse the shred guitarists. Blues is hands down the most annoying genre played on guitar. Same rhythm riffs and pentatonic leads over and over again.
Very sloppy and repetitive. I get bored listening cus it sounds the same as every solo you play. I don't care for shredders anyway - mostly cus they're all sloppy and repetitive and make me bored and tired; plus I like hearing a player's individual notes... what they say about him - but still I wouldn't say you're as great as you think you are. You can pick fast but that's it. It takes skill to play fast but it takes heart and soul to slow down and say something. You can't learn heart and soul.
Dude, you're one of the best bad guitar players I've ever seen. Your technique is incredible. You easily have potential to be in the league of guys like Cooley and Batio. Most guitarists (including me) would kill for that kind of natural ability.
But all your videos are just wankery, a bunch of random riffs slapped together. Take a cue from, I dunno, Chris Feener, and play some freakin' music. You have way too much talent to waste on this kind of noise.
could you possibly do a video of the guitar from all angles? im interested in picking one up but that neck join and lower horn really does look like it might be a problem
Thats how it works man. Im not too worried about it. Whatever. Someone commented on my new rhythm video saying i was too repetative.. Dont they realize i just started working on it a few days ago? lol SHIT TAKES TIME!!!
Doesn't a rhythm usually repeat in songs...? Or were they talking about your lead part...either way that's pretty stupid they commented that. Great skills you have man, how long did it take you to achieve that speed?
This thing plays at least 10x better and sounds 50x better than my washburn. Of course thats because of the x2n7. Even though my washburn had dual blazes.
I really liked performing, especially vibratos, but I hate this "realistic" webcam sound.

@EcoliUVA But regardless soul is always an important element (to me anyway) to any style of playing... no matter what instrument
