Ahh, I remember watching this cartoon when I was younger. Anyone I talked to about it said it was very off putting and creepy. I couldn't agree more, however, the animation style (which reminds me of Bakshi) sets the mood well, and the sense of foreboding and fear, though subtle, was a very neat and different experience from Dr. Suess's other stories.
Here's what I think happened: There was some kind of gas in the Paraphernalia Wagon that escaped when The Grinch opened it, and everything that happened was Ukeria hallucinating from said gas.
For some reason the moment at 2:25 still freaks me out. It's not even a moving scene, but there was something about him facing down an unknown thing that sends chills down my spine.
i saw this as kid im 25 now, this subsonciously made me not ever to do shrooms or hullicigans cuz i would tell myself maybe ill be seeing the shit grinch had in his fucking wagon
I loved this movie since i was 5. This sequence was so awesome, i think someone should do a Batman TAS video tribute to this set to this song with Scarecrow being dubbed by Grinch set to creature clips from episodes like Home and Garden, On Leather Wings, Terror in The Sky, Moon of the Wolf, Feat of Clay, Tyger Tyger, Vendeta, the one Entrigin episode, Mudslide, Preety Poison, Fear of Victory and Nothing to Fear. Wouldn't that be cool?
I loved this movie as a child, I still watch it every Halloween.
For some reason, this was always my favourite part of the movie, I would watch it over and over again...
Then again, I did the same thing with the "Pink Elephants on Parade" and "Heffalumps and Woozles" songs. All the things that scared everyone else to death, I loved.
Now why couldn't this have been the Grinch film that was put in theatres with Jim Carey? It's already great as a cartoon, but just imagine seeing all this in live action on the big screen! That would have been awesome! Or imagine if Boris Karloff was still around to reprise the role for this. Not that Hans Conried did a bad job, but it definately fits the genre Karloff was known for working in.
0:09- 0:15 Am I the only one reminded of Medico Della Peste masks? I seem to recall someone posting a photo of an apparently 40-foot-tall ghost that wore one...
It's been so long since I watched this movie that I honestly could not remember whether it was real, or I had dreamed it. Thank you, youtube, for showing me that sometimes nightmares are real.
@9Lives101 You did. The images at 2:20 and 2:24 are both lifted from "Oh the Thinks You Can Think." The first one (the purple and yellow staircase) is "Think of light, think of bright, think of stairs in the night" and the second one (the blue town with the silhouetted bird-monster thing) is "What would you do if you met a Jibboo?" I think some of those quick-cuts that look like eyes have made appearances in other books as well.
think about it the kids name is euchariah and the grinch and his wagon of parafenalia ahem nazi parafenalia...also pay close atention to the lyrics I sure they mention something about being a disgrace to the whole human race... and the grinch came to town because of the winds of change I'm mean come on...
@sliverbullet1 I think it goes: Euchariah Euchariah this is it (HA!) This is it (HA!) Grinch is gonna get ya! Grinch is gonna get ya! Yes indeed fa la la! (Yeah!) Euchariah Euchariah Euchariah Euchariah Grinch is gonna get ya Grinch is gonna get ya Grinch is gonna get ya Grinch is gonna get ya Yes indeed fa la la (yeah!) Yes indeedy fa la la (YEAH!) ...... at least that what it sounds like XD
Saw this when I was like four. Rediscovered it today. My heart rate doubled when those first ghouls start chanting at Euchariah, and it never slowed for the rest of the scene.
Ahh, I remember watching this cartoon when I was younger. Anyone I talked to about it said it was very off putting and creepy.
