Gore's position that there are "main" candidates is favoritism. A pre election screening. This means that our choices are purposely limited by a select few. This endures the status quo.

I totally agree with Gore. Third party candidates should be the ballots of all the states, but they should only be included in the debates if they gather a significant amount of support.
Ok, how can they gain support when they are excluded from debates that reach up to 70 million people in ONE debate? How can they grow? Come on, if they are on enough ballots to win the electoral college.... then they SHOULD DEBATE!
BS. I like Al Gore but the whole "Debate Commission" system is set-up to actively exclude third parties from the discussion. It's a manipulation of our system. Voters should be able to decide who they want to hear from, NOT a commission. Shame on you Al Gore for shutting down Ralph Nader.
al gore is retarded anything that comes out of his mouth is a lie he cant ever become president of the united states of america i remember fucking cnn bullshit saying al gore won the election less then an hour before bush won, from then on my family and i only Watch Fox News
You never knew that the Bush family had a cousin who worked at FN? Poor little imbecile, trying to type like a grownup.
And no, don't watch either. Associated Press is much easier to find, as are the sites. The channels are just a bunch of over opinionated pundits asked for opinions that very few care for.
The media owns what is thought. The normal citizen is too uninformed to know what they truly need so they turn on their televisions and watch cnn or nbc or whatever, and listen to what the "professionals" say. And then the lightbulb goes on in the citizen's head of "they must know what they're talkin about". The media mostly favors the savvier of the two major candidates. We say the media is too involved, but who listens to it? the people and that keeps them in power. Get educated to vote.
ah, but Mr. Gore, how do you know that if 3rd parties got more exposure in the mainstream media that they wouldn't cease having such a small following?

i hate that man...of coarse he doesn't want competition, duh! y bother askin the question! u knew wut he would say! ventura/paul '12 rock n rEVOLution :p
Gore= counterfeit. He paints himself as an environmentalist despite having owned huge amounts of stock in rain-forest rapists Occidental Oil. He dumped the stock but only after the news got out so he wouldn't LOOK like the hypocrite he it. To all you young Gore supporters: Al & Tipper were THE prime-movers in the PMRC censorship movement in the '80s. He's not a real conservationist, and he's down with Tipper's hatred of music with "dirty words", which includes most music his supporters like.
I can prove that Gorte lied about Perot being in the 96 debates. Look at the New York Times Article written by NEIL A. LEWIS Written on Sep, 24 1996 Titled "Perot Goes to Court to Try to Get Into the Presidential Debates:.
Now can we please get over this mumbo jumbo of words such as "hope" and "Change" because his record does not show this.
Open the debates in 2012...Let the American people have more choices.
Absolutely - the threshold of acceptance is so high that it requires a huge media blitz to accrue the needed support just to get on the ballot. It is a catch-22 - you need the media to support you before you can get any public support, but the media won't support you unless you can prove you already have it. Gore is fulla shit about "differences between likely candidates" - they are all the same because 3rd party views are blocked.
Then he says, "Let the journalist decide who is in teh debates" and then he says " Let them make the best judgment on what the people here and people with small followings woudl "cludder" the stage".
People do you hear what this man is saying..he is saying only Democrats and Republicans shoudl be in the debates. Even though in 2008 there were 4 other candidates on enough state ballots to win, they are "cludder"
Oh please Gore. Your such a corporate scum bag. They blocked Ross Perot from the debates in 96 after he recieved 19 million voted in 92. You and the Democrats control the debate commission and make deals behind closed doors about the debates. ITS PROVEN ITS A FACT.
George Farah EXPOSED the 'Debate Commission" on what happens. People...look this up. Gore is talking bull crap to you. He is part of the corporate elite and is a LIAR! He was part of the reason why Nader was blocked in 2000!
Does it truly matter if the American public sees the third party candidates? The majority of the American people are too stuck up their own troubles to truly listen to all issues. For the most part, they'll vote the way they have in the past, Democrat/Republican. And as for what the third parties say, it is eventually soaked up by the major parties. It has in the past. The only true third party candidates that have chances are ideological parties and there hasn't been a true one in years.
LIAR... Just as he lies about global warming. He lies about this. He thinks our current system is "open" to 3rd party? Give me a break. 99% of the people I spoke with were not even aware of the other 4 candidates.
I find it interesting that a man who has been outspoken about the negative effects of recent trends in the media (i.e. removal of government oversight and funding, focus on profits) on democracy (see his 2002 speech on how this is compromising the marketplace of ideas) should turn around and act like the media is responsibly selecting "likely candidates". the same media owned by the military industrial complex (i.e. NBC and GE)
England's national eductational department got sued for the inconvient truth for having eleven falsehoods. Thereby they could not teach it anymore without pointing out the facts of lies without automatic discipline, including up to jail time.
Not only is he a Fatass hypocrite, consuming more food & electricity than the avg; but also an egocentric, lisping, dumbshit who could not win his homestate.
I think everyone criticizing Gore is being ridiculous. He is right that none of the third part candidates in 2008 got anywhere. The reporter mentions Ron Paul, who was popular in his own right, but didn't get past the primaries and didn't run on a third party.

I still deeply respect Al Gore, but I totally disagree with him on this. I am so glad third party candidates who have no chance of winning anyway aren't allowed to participate in debates. They're scumbags who take away votes from people who realistically stand a chance in the election, no matter how good their ideas are. Screw you, third parties!
you do know 6 years ago Gore gave a speech in which he criticized trends in the media and basically said the opposite of what he's saying now. The media used to be gov subsidized or run at a loss, now its run at a profit and focuses on entertainment. Its also owned by the companies who profit from war by making arms, can they be trusted to decide who has a "realistic chance". Could it be the reason Nader or Paul or Kucinich or Gravel were labeled unelectable was b/c these companies were scared
i swear this gore is a fucking hole. how can a 3rd party candidate grow a following if he is not allowed to debate with other candidates? first amendment my ass, a small following interferes with him and thats all. i want to ask this fat bastard why he didnt run in 04...its because afer the shit hit the fan his chicken ass went running. thank god he was never president
unacceptable answer. I used to have a lot of respect for him and he lost it by not supporting a true democratic elections. the two major parties are bought and supported by the corporations and the corporate owned media prevents the true people's advocates voice.
With only 2 parties there is very little radical or liberal voice. Al stop giving the media the power. How is raising a new voice stopping people from reaching a decision. Education would be a better attack for America's ability to think clearly. Europe has debates with up to 20 people. I think he is still so old school he can't see the benefit of more voices.
I am sick to death of the whole "two party" system...ask any pol-sci teacher there isn't really that much differance between Dems and Reps. But Gore doesn't know what he is talking about because, if we have such an open system there would be third parties in the debates. As far as voting for Nader I admit, I voted for him even through I knew he wasn't going to win...it was him or Lisa Simpson.
Hope may happen, will see. The Republican party might have gotten woken up by Ron Paul. The fight is on now for RNC chair and talking of cleaning house. That is progressives or moderate republicans(lite dems) being removed. You know, like Bush, McCain are out and constitutionalists, and reformists taking over. I want to go beyond reformists, but a big start in the right direction. Even so all should be heard on National debates for educational of the public.
If he believes they should be included, why doesn't he host a debate on CURRENT TV? Oh, that's right, he's a democran... i mean republocrat...
Funny he mentions the 92 elections when Perot got into the debates, because up until then the League of Women Voters (a politically unaffiliated, fairly unbiased organization) held the debates. But that was apparently too close for comfort for the Ds&Rs, so they seized control of the debates in every election since.
sorry al, 3rd party & independent candidates cannot get on the ballot in texas, oklahama, indiana, georgia & north carolina. so, 45 + d.c. is the most, not all 50. for those who are able to get on those 45, they should be allowed to debate, otherwise the american people remain uninformed by & large that there are real alternatives. but, as a career democrat, that's the last thing al would want.
and stop blaming nader for 2000. over 200,000 registered dems voted for W. NOT NADER'S FAULT!
With Gore as president, the U.S. would at least be on the right track in terms of national security, environment and other things. Rather than having a jackass with his head so far up the asses of corporations and religions nuts. What the world's political stage need is a voice of reason in all chaos. Bush lacks reason. I bet Obama will do just fine.
Who ass was Gore's head up when he sold the pulic on NAFTA? The Corporations. Obama is no different. Both parties are controlled by Big Business and Big Banking.
Yeah because we want someone who makes a powerpoint on the "dangers global warming" and doesn't even follow what he says. He totally is better than bush, yeah... He's not a jackass.
If we wait for the DEM/GOP or the present political insiders to welcome third party candidates into our present political mix, we are still going to be having this same discussion 40 years, and 10 presidential election cycles, from now. They will resist this in the same manner that they have resisted reform for the last several years. I beg you, fed-up DEM/GOP voters, to join with the independent-minded voters and support 3rd parties so they can break into the system to force change on Wash.D.C.
The party system will lead to political posturing and less solving of the issues. George Washington. But how else are we to govern the nation by mob rule I think not.
Mob rule is democracy! One person one vote. Mob rule is a revers euphemism, to try and make direct democracy sound worse than what we have. Democrtitus from greece would be rolling in his grave had he ever heard of "Representative Democracy" which is an oxymoron of a word itself.

Bush was bad no doubt!! However, Carter was worse and Gore would have been horrible!! In addition, when you have a majority of congress and senate of one party and a president of another(Bush)you get a LAME DUCK! My guess is that you already know that though! Things can only improve? Well, let's hope so!!! I will be praying that Obama/democrats don't make things worse!!
Nixon wasn't that bad of a president, he was just very paranoid (he kept a list of his political enemies); he was a little above average as far as US presidents go, but he had, shall it be said, the wrong personal character to be president without making stupid mistakes (none of those mistakes had ill effects on the world, just himself and perhaps the Republican party), such as wiretapping the phones of members of the Democratic party. But Nixon was by no means a horrible president, unlike Bush.
it's a tough call. on the one hand, we need people like kucinich/paul at the primary debates, because they bring up issues the big candidates and media don't mention. but then, it's not red tape and media bias that bar third party candidates, it's money. perot rose as far as he did because he had money. they'd have to be a celebrity in their own right, either rich like perot or you'd have to be famous.
Better than the government controlling it? Please. Look at who funds the main news networks: The large corporations that both Republicans and Democrats are sucking up to. You're not fooling anyone, Mr. Gore. The corporations, government, and media are all part of the same big, orgiastic mess of back-scratching and ass-kissing. Oh, sure, you've got a few voices of reason amidst the chaos, but those voices are silenced. And excluding them from debates is one of those methods of silencing.
i say get the 3rd party canidates at the debate, not only to hear their plans, but the 3rd party canidates usually call out the real flaws in the rep/dem canidates' plans.
I find 3rd Party canidates are usually better also...My Step Father attacked Nader saying he was trying to hurt Obama...I find it funny because Some people don't even know that 3rd Parties are required to have Canidates...Personally I voted Bob Barr of the Libertarian party...Bad voting record but I agree with his views of today.
i totally agree with you. although 3rd party candidates are labeled "radicals" and "extremists", i find them to be the most sincere and truthful, if i could vote i would have voted for McKinney of the Green Party, I also agree with Mckinney's views despite her being a little crazy.
Well I was going to Vote for Ron Paul(Registered Republican) I did vote for him in the primary...Anyway he was to extreme. I like Barr but he is a little to extreme But I think he is the best choice.
Also, who wnats to have 2 relevant people and as 1:37 says, liek 10 irrelevant

Even so all should be heard on National debates for educational of the public.
charleydan 3 years ago
If he believes they should be included, why doesn't he host a debate on CURRENT TV? Oh, that's right, he's a democran... i mean republocrat...
Funny he mentions the 92 elections when Perot got into the debates, because up until then the League of Women Voters (a politically unaffiliated, fairly unbiased organization) held the debates. But that was apparently too close for comfort for the Ds&Rs, so they seized control of the debates in every election since.
What's your opinion on that Al?
leitermann 3 years ago
The biggest issue is how they ban the best candidates. Gore supports fascism....
YouGotRonPauled 3 years ago 2
Right on !!! Ross Perot would have never got us into a NAFTA. The Ron Paul movement lives on.

sorry al, 3rd party & independent candidates cannot get on the ballot in texas, oklahama, indiana, georgia & north carolina. so, 45 + d.c. is the most, not all 50. for those who are able to get on those 45, they should be allowed to debate, otherwise the american people remain uninformed by & large that there are real alternatives. but, as a career democrat, that's the last thing al would want.
and stop blaming nader for 2000. over 200,000 registered dems voted for W. NOT NADER'S FAULT!
timthelion 3 years ago
3rd party CAN get on the ballot in Georgia because I voted for one and I live in Georgia.

ROFL!! Yeah, don't forget Al Gore "invented the internet(so he thinks)too!!" That guy's in left field~leave him there!!

EvilSylv 3 years ago
Who ass was Gore's head up when he sold the pulic on NAFTA? The Corporations. Obama is no different. Both parties are controlled by Big Business and Big Banking.
matt192433 3 years ago 5

LokiScoutSniper 3 years ago

99minerkc 3 years ago
They won't. Plain and simple.

dont forget nixon he was horrible too xD

Nixon was a loon in the end!!
99minerkc 3 years ago
Nixon wasn't that bad of a president, he was just very paranoid (he kept a list of his political enemies); he was a little above average as far as US presidents go, but he had, shall it be said, the wrong personal character to be president without making stupid mistakes (none of those mistakes had ill effects on the world, just himself and perhaps the Republican party), such as wiretapping the phones of members of the Democratic party. But Nixon was by no means a horrible president, unlike Bush.
PartIrishKevo 3 years ago 2
but he was a criminal and when you are president you are suppose to be a good example.

the Presidential Commission on Debates is a private company run by the Dem's and Repub's not a public, federal organization, just fyi.
flyingdrake 3 years ago
it's a tough call. on the one hand, we need people like kucinich/paul at the primary debates, because they bring up issues the big candidates and media don't mention. but then, it's not red tape and media bias that bar third party candidates, it's money. perot rose as far as he did because he had money. they'd have to be a celebrity in their own right, either rich like perot or you'd have to be famous.

LittleRachael 3 years ago 2
Look up the Presidential Commission on Debates. and how the two big parties control it and thereby all the dialogue and discussion

DAMNIT we would have been SO MUCH BETTER OFF if Gore had been President the last 8 years.

i say get the 3rd party canidates at the debate, not only to hear their plans, but the 3rd party canidates usually call out the real flaws in the rep/dem canidates' plans.
mattrauch81 3 years ago 6
I find 3rd Party canidates are usually better also...My Step Father attacked Nader saying he was trying to hurt Obama...I find it funny because Some people don't even know that 3rd Parties are required to have Canidates...Personally I voted Bob Barr of the Libertarian party...Bad voting record but I agree with his views of today.
dandaman2206 3 years ago
i totally agree with you. although 3rd party candidates are labeled "radicals" and "extremists", i find them to be the most sincere and truthful, if i could vote i would have voted for McKinney of the Green Party, I also agree with Mckinney's views despite her being a little crazy.
mattrauch81 3 years ago 3
Well I was going to Vote for Ron Paul(Registered Republican) I did vote for him in the primary...Anyway he was to extreme. I like Barr but he is a little to extreme But I think he is the best choice.
dandaman2206 3 years ago
I think he told more about the system then he wanted to. I just read right between those lines
