@TheBunsofCinnamon True, but announcements usually happen WAY after development is under way. My guess is that the basics are being done and then EA will decide later whether or not the franchise will continue.

The Marker just loves to play around with people it knows it can kill every single one of them but it decides to "play" with it's prey :)

In the end they all die I wonder how much crazier will Isaac get in Dead Space 3 lol.

Tell me if i'm wrong, but:

The Slasher that was about to kill Lexine is actually Nathan Mcneill, succumbed to the necromorph Infection. .

Ultimately killed. R.I.P. Nathan.

@benberth5234 I really don't know where this theory came from. (The attacker has two blades, whereas it's been shown that previously dismembered limbs typically don't regenerate upon transformation, so Necro Nate should only have one.) I suppose it's a possibility, but I prefer the explanation that Gabe (who you previously controlled just moments ago) is having a nightmare. He's lost a lot of blood and went through a rough experience, so it's no surprise.

@IGIPNP Nah its cause Nate probably bled out which made him dead and he was infected by a necromorph right? and in Severed Lexine is married to Gabe. . .She had a thing with Nate remember

@Roxas5000 I get why he was infected, but I don't get why the perspective switched right at the end. I think that ending could've been handled better.

And yeah, I know about Severed. I kind of assumed that Nate wasn't around because I thought they might bring him back in another DS 2 DLC. I assumed he was alive, but also that he was so traumatized and/or stressed out by the whole ordeal that he wouldn't want to be an officer for The Sprawl like Gabe.

@merpmeep Well, what do you know. I kind of wonder if they just went with a popular theory instead of planning it all along, as it still doesn't make sense to ambiguously transfer to Nate after having finished the game as Gabe.

umm I'm new to the series, I haven't played DS1 or 2. and since extration is the first one (according to the story) I decided to try it first.

I have a question though. WTF? did lexine die? was that real or a hallucination?

lexine was my fav char, and I refuse to believe she is dead =(

Well, Lexine and Gabe return in a DLC expansion in Dead Space 2, so at least those two are alive. No word on what happened to Nate though.

A prevailing theory regarding the ending is that it is either a hallucination or nightmare. The Marker's symbols appear right at the beginning of that final cutscene, and previous appearances of those symbols indicated a hallucination.

@TheCoastalRipper Impossible. Part 31 (Credits + final stuff) shows the Trophies unlocking for Impossible AND the two difficulties below it.

@TheCoastalRipper Thanks, though Dead Space: Extraction's Impossible mode isn't really that difficult due to the various limitations of the gameplay (and due to having a number of stronger, more versatile weapons. You also take a lot less damage on Impossible mode here than in the first console game.) Only Chapter 7 and 10 of the Story Mode gave me any trouble, whereas like half the Chapters of the first Dead Space gave me trouble.

@graystone23 The ending sequence is likely a hallucination (just like in Dead Space 1) judging from the reappearance of the Unitology symbol motif.

As far as I know, no word on Nate was mentioned in Dead Space 2: Severed (though that does continue the story of Weller and Lexine), so it's unknown what exactly happened to him. As some other suggested, it's possible that he'll show up in a future Dead Space 2 DLC or some other Dead Space material.
