Once again I have always liked this song, but never knew It was a sweet song. I had the pat benatar version on lp and cassette. sweet is another tragic example of a great british band for whatever reason not making it in the US.

@DABEARS1088 Yea and verily ! These go to 11 ! I turned my daughter on to The Sweet when she was 9 and she's been a hard core fan ever since - hope the boy will aquire good taste as he ages (you never know...)
hmmm, pretty boring video, but then again, I realize that there just isn't much video footage available of Sweet. The song kicks ass..as does the entire album. I love Desolation Blvd... even consider it as "essential listening" for rockers and all thus aspiring. The band that should have kept it going. Sweet Rocks!

Mick ismy hero, Andy is the dream of my lover, Steve is my best friend ever. Brian is my wedding singer. All this would happen if I was the headmaster. Best, Sweden Anette born 1962.
@cagustilo23 Yes she did, on her debut album. Benatar's version is a great cover of an already awesome tune, but I give the edge to The Sweet's original.
Not musically gay what are you on who cares what they were they were brilliant rock and pop musicians and as far as I know they weren't gay but they wore make up dressed camp so what does that make then REAL panto dame men . What is a REAL gay? please explain.? Boy George was gay and wore makeup most gay people dont wear make up. so are they not real gays? Sweet release some of the campest songs ever Little Willy, Wig Wam Bam ect Drag queens were putting slap on years before Sweet & Boy George.
Andy Scott was one of the greatest riff masters of the '70's (IMHO)- at times he gets a real Blackmore/Deep Purple In Rock sound - (which I guess isn't surprising since they were mates.)
I have loved the Sweet since i first heard Wig Wam Bam. It was sad to hear that Brian was punch in throat during a fight in Germany? and as a result Steve and Andy took on more of the lead vocals, throw in Brians alcoholism. I am not slagging Brian off but just wondering how other songs not sung by Brian would sound with him singing. Nothing against Syeve's or Andy's vocals either. The version of Play All Night with Brian singing is pretty good, different version to Andy singing.
I kind of get pissed of whe someone says "oh the sweet, yea, Love is like Oxygen righ? and that's it, like this freaking album doesn't even exist, Sweet Fanny Adams is really awesome a lot better than that ballad and should be put everywhere on youtube and elsewhere, they really diserve it !!
The first Sweet album I had was Desolation Boulevard after hearing Fox on the Run on the radio. These guys were part of the early glam scene. They should've been bigger than they were. Very underrated band, especially the drummer, he's kicked ass back there.
GAY? Well, if you're banking on these boys to join your'e side, you might want to do a little more homework. This wasn't exactly a Freddie Mercury bicycle ride here.. Sorry. I'll say this though: they put out some top level tunes. And I don't care if they slept with German shepherds. Doesn't matter. They're on my playlist because they earned it.
THIS WHOLE ALBUM, DESOLATION BOULEVARD WAS KILLER...I remember they were climbing nicely out of the Little Willie thing...Ball Room Blitz and Fox on the Run were on the radio constantly and every thing else on the album rocked...No filler here
Hey Clockwork Lou (who's a chick, btw), remember me? It's me, Pewsterbaby! Remember 2 years ago I told ya this is my fave vid on all of You Tube? Well, after over 10 thousand more vids surfed, & more than 2 additional years gone by, it STILL holds the #1 slot in my book. Awesome job! Plus, this song just kills it. It's simple & The Sweet hammer the point home. Really well-done primordial Rock. It scares the beejeezus outta you in the start & the 1st 2 minutes are one hella adrenaline rush.
I may have been a four year old girl in the seventies, but a steady diet of Sweet now has helped me purge about 15 years of really really shitty indie rock. Thanks boys. Seriously.
A 5 star Glam Rock song: No You Don't - Sweet [London, England] - 1975 - "...sounding like a kind of bizarre prototype for the Ramones' punky bubblegum (only without the irony, of course). Good first impression on the Glam vocals and hard drums/guitar HOOKS." - Action: The Sweet Anthology (Shout Factory) [Disc 2]-2009. NOTE: Glam Rock ended about this time, but what a glorious end. :-)
Sweet was one of the best live bands ever. They sounded just as good in concert as they do on this studio recording. In other words, Sweet was for real. No engineering, no overdubs, no phony baloney technical tricks to make up for a lack of real musicianship and vocal talent.
It's sad that this era has faded away to only memory and recordings. The classic rock generation was the BEST!
yes chinnichap wrote for suzi sweet mud and later smokie exile so on ended with tina turner lol and mike chapman made solo hit once to :) but think they were 2 in a band before they became the sweet ? gentlements something mick brian later joined by scott priest...i had a 1969 album with them on one side and herman hermits on other side ..:) no milk today..uhm cream lol
Sweets Hellraiser was my first bought single. I could not get my ears of them, they impressed me enormously. And, sorry to say, mostly the drumming. But as a whole, sweet was 'my band'.....They are heavily underestimated, but werent they producer-ideas in the first place? (chin-chapmann). Mud, Suzie Quatro, etc.
The 'gay' image...haha, maybe they set standard for the REAL gays (boy george and so on). Sweet was cool, and musically NOT gay. I love them forever for what they did.
Sorry...if you don't feel the absolute need to turn this all the way up you're wrong. It has nothing to do with musical likes and dislikes.....you're just bloody wrong.
As a confirmed Alice/Purple/Zep fan it was so cool in the early 70s to knock Sweet for their 'Little Willy' TOTP stuff ..... then someone started playing their albums and B sides, and made me sit up and listen! Very underrated band. Some good memories here, thanks!
waooowww... i never make the connection between Nazareth and the Sweet ... but the vocals ...just after 30 seconds and it's clear...both singers influence each other !... I always said that if AC DC had more options after the Bon Scott death... the singers of Nazareth and the Sweet (Connolly) were potentially very interesting choices for the new AC DC singer... and Connolly leave Sweet just before Bon Scott death...
Tommy Lee fr Motley Crue stated in an interview that he couldn't get this off his turntable. Mick was ahead of his time. The drill on the guitar effect used by EVH on poundcake too. This was 74'. Violin bow on the strings. I wore out 3 copies of this on 8-track.
In the 74s masterpiece "Sweet fanny adams" Chinn/Chapman still had their fingers in the play, however, now I cannot really imagine that this brilliant final result accepted to them, particularly as producer Phil Wainman proved here that he also gets on in producing of really great rock. "No you don't" is an example of the change and carefreeness which the boys on this brilliant album brought to the fans to hearing. Still today absolutely fantastic!!! Rockin' greetings from Germany!
The awesome thing about Sweet is that they played live just like in the studio. Seeing them live was like listening to the album, with the usual concert variations thrown in. But, these guys could sing and harmonize like nobody else. I miss these days sooooo much. RIP Brian
According to Steve Priest: "He was the most underrated drummer that ever came out of England. He was the powerhouse of the band. He was technically marvelous. His timing was impeccable, but he had a lot of soul as well and he really felt what he was playing".
This is the first time I've ever heard this version, it's much better than that half assed Pat Nebitar cover. Or is it Benetar? Pat Benetar sucks anyway, this is totally killer!
Pat's cover rocks and is well done musically with awesome and passionate vocals- she is considered one of rock's all- time great female vocalists. Without a doubt, Sweet is one hell of a band and the original kicks butt. Your comment "sucks".
@kevdaniels I guess to people who like vocalists that sound like they're trying to take a shit, yeah, Pat Nebiturd is a "reel goodliek sangur". It just goes to show if you look hot, can half ass carry a pitch, act all "tuff" and mean and have a good marketing machine, then you can fool hundreds of thousands of people into liking your garbage. She ruined a good song.
What's crazy is this was the first single released by Pat Benetar. I remember hearing her version and wondering who the bitch was that stole from Sweet. I was always pissed these guys were not known for their heavy songs, just the pop crap.
Desolation Blvd is one of the best rock albums of all time, and is sadly only known for Ballroom Blitz and F on the R
I agree, there is not a bad song on that LP, very heavy guitars. Give Us A Wink still has some heavy guitars, but more prog sounding to me anyway's, great vocals though on both LP.s Very underrated.
@morleygrey Yup, for it's time the guitars are epic. Sweet F A is a total metal riff before metal even broke out. At least 10 years ahead of it's time. Set me free is just sick! Give us a wink was also heavy, but not near as perfect as DB. I love the internet though, I had no idea these guys were a bubblegum pop act until years later, I bought a greatest hits and the first 6 tracks were all wtf, lol.
@Nivekrst Actually, the version of Desolation Blvd. we all grew up on is Half of the Sweet Fanny Adams lp, 2 cuts from the British D.B. a couple of singles and a B side. Not saying I didn't jam out on this version for years, but if you love Sweet you owe it to yourself to get the Brit versions of all their albums. There were so many more songs I never heard growing up. There's a CD of B sides out too that ROCKS! Glad there's so many of you old Sweet fans out there. Keep on rockin'!
OMG Anarchy club sings this thats fuckin weird...and awsome good cover anarchy club, and good job sweet for a good song,if u guys want a different band play this song check anarchy club u wont regret it ROCK ON
well done louise, some great clips there. i have had an interest in the band since the early to mid 70's and have what i think is there best album "sweet fanny adams".
it puts to shame many of the pompus rock bands of today.
I grow up with this band when i was a young kid, i play self for many years in bands, let me tell you, this guys were all great musicians, long live the Sweet !!
@magicspidercat it's a real shame. A lot of musicians age without health problems, but he really did not take care of himself as he got older. Steve's 62, in good health, but weighs over 300 pounds. That's not good.
Some of the best Chinn and Chapman Sweet! Too bad the boys didn't really need them as song writers. All the REAL Sweet stuff blows this away!!!! Very cool though.
Pat Benatar is a joke and shouldn't be mentioned in the same context as our boys. The vocal is Connolly, as a glaswegian I knew his step brother, Mark, (Taggart) and he assured me before his untimely death that Brian recorded the vocal for almost all of the album before the aforementioned kicking. Don't mean to name drop but things should be clarified!!
WOW? Is this a Sweet post or a Pat Benatar post? I would have fucked the living shit out of that sweet little piece of ass had she not been a dyke! She is one sexy snatch licker!!!
It's definitely Steve on lead vocal here. He also sang lead on "Restless" and Andy sang lead on "Into The Night" as Brian had got his throat kicked in a pub fight during the recording sessions for the "Sweet Fanny Adams" album...
@bogbrush88 ok i give up, haven´t got any stocks on this issue, but for me it still sound s like B.C. never heard about this when this album was of interest at the present time, have a nice day/evening
@charmingasalwayshey, i wasn't aware that BRIAN WASN'T IN THE BAND DURING THIS RECORDING!...And I thought I knew everything about this band!....what's the name of Steve's book?
Awsome song i remember this song way back in the day and on the 22 of nov 09 in melbourne i experienced the band live for the first time and they were great and they played this song and reminded me of it again.
Gosh i loved this song as a kid myself! I loved and still love this band. They were just beyond awesome! Steve did such an awesome job singing it. Still having the goose bumps listening to it.

Give us a wink was also heavy, but not near as perfect as DB. I love the internet though, I had no idea these guys were a bubblegum pop act until years later, I bought a greatest hits and the first 6 tracks were all wtf, lol.
Nivekrst 1 year ago
@Nivekrst the album was damn great...rock at its best...yes 10 yrs ahead of its time...terrific track
john111257 1 year ago
@Nivekrst Actually, the version of Desolation Blvd. we all grew up on is Half of the Sweet Fanny Adams lp, 2 cuts from the British D.B. a couple of singles and a B side. Not saying I didn't jam out on this version for years, but if you love Sweet you owe it to yourself to get the Brit versions of all their albums. There were so many more songs I never heard growing up. There's a CD of B sides out too that ROCKS! Glad there's so many of you old Sweet fans out there. Keep on rockin'!

@Nivekrst I agree. When I first bought DB, I listened to the thing and I was like, WTF? There's not a throwaway on here! Amazing album!

well done louise, some great clips there. i have had an interest in the band since the early to mid 70's and have what i think is there best album "sweet fanny adams".
it puts to shame many of the pompus rock bands of today.

love it ,,,,real shame brian died so young
magicspidercat 1 year ago

Don't mean to name drop but things should be clarified!!
angusdesire 1 year ago
Pat Benatar is 100 times better at what SHE does than YOU will EVER be at ANYTHING you EVER do. Why do we know HER name and not YOURS ????
dmutchler 1 year ago
WOW? Is this a Sweet post or a Pat Benatar post? I would have fucked the living shit out of that sweet little piece of ass had she not been a dyke! She is one sexy snatch licker!!!

priffipruff 2 years ago
@priffipruff of course it´s Brian on lead vocal here
ztormar 2 years ago
It's definitely Steve on lead vocal here. He also sang lead on "Restless" and Andy sang lead on "Into The Night" as Brian had got his throat kicked in a pub fight during the recording sessions for the "Sweet Fanny Adams" album...
bogbrush88 2 years ago
@bogbrush88 ok i give up, haven´t got any stocks on this issue, but for me it still sound s like B.C. never heard about this when this album was of interest at the present time, have a nice day/evening
