This was the last year I did ToughGuy - did it four years running and said "No more". Just watched this and now I'm wondering... Maybe one more time for old times sake?
Did Tough Guy when you did it and this year. This year at the 3:09 point of you video you got electrocuted aswell. See you all at nettle warrior in July 2011.
Hey there were you in a wet suit at the start? Was this your first tough guy I think we may have had a chat? More importantly are you running in 3 weeks I am third time did nettle warrior in the summer and then back for more. This time I want a respectable time :)
Hey there were you in a wet suit at the start? Was this your first tough guy I think we may have had a chat? More importantly are you running in 3 weeks I am third time did nettle warrior in the summer and then back for more. This time I want a respectable time :)
I remember seeing this when you first uploaded the video as i did the event and was continuously looking for new uploaded videos that i could show my friends. This is by far the best and i had forgotten all about it until i saw a video showing extreme sports in POV using a Go pro Camera. I'm really tempted to film the next TG in 2011 along with a few other events im taking part in. Would you say the Go Pro is worth getting or would it be more beneficial to get the full HD version?
haha, thanks man! I do the same before each race and people are only really beginning to put up decent videos.
As for the choice between HD or the normal camera, i would say that if you're gonna use the camera for quite a few things, it may be worth getting the full on HD one, as you really can tell the difference. I've used mine for Canyoning, Via Ferrata, Mountain Biking, Ringoing, Parapenting, and Sailing, and at points-especially when there are amazing views, HD would be great...
@Registrierkasse Hey man, im just a university student from the UK and me and a friend figured wed do this as it sound like fun! I wont be participating this year, as im currently in China learning Chinese, but i hope to come back in 2012!
@gasgasadam No, it didnt really....with the cargo nets it can get caught a little bit, but if you go through them backwards(like a lot of people do), its really not too bad. apart from that its just making sure that you have it secured well so that you dont need to worry about it hitting you in the head when youre running...
@kskdtr Hey dude, you want thin thermals that cover your legs and your upper body...try and get ones that dont hold too much water. Also i found wearing a swimming cap, a thermal hat that can cover your ears, and gloves quite useful, as you can have them off for the run and then put them on before you get wet, and it helps a lot. The run at the beginning gets pretty warm, but its worth it when you get to the cold bits. Also Fancy dress is a must!!!
@asskickerfoo haha...thats what happens to your mind when its been submerged in minus temperatures after having overheated in thermal clothing.
At the end last time i had to be undressed by my girlfriend...i didnt know where i was and i didnt stop shaking for hours...luckily, shes very good at warming me up ;-)
When you enter tough guy and put yourself through what every person in this clip is doing you are not a sissy, I am sure you will find that out when you are competing in this event!! From a two time tough guy.
I went through the underwater tunnel in the far left channel & it had one hell of a current there (probably from the mass of people rushing through the water).
Hi, do you advise wearing some kind of wet suit for this? Also, the walk the plank bit, is the water deep that you have to jump into? Going to sign up for Jan 2011. Thanks!
@milkbottles2000 you don't really need to worry too much about swimming...all you need to do is a little swim (about 5-10 metres) after the walk the plank, and also depending on how well you do on the rope walks you may need to swim a little then, though where most people fall off you can generally grab onto the rope and use it to pull yourself along, which is easier and a lot quicker aswell. Good luck buddy!
With respects to the run at the beginning, its just a run around the fields, though make sure you don't lose your warm kit, as although you'll be boiling during the run, it comes in very handy later on...at the end of the run comes the slalom, which is a set of particularily nasty hill reps...I found running downhill past everyone helped gain loads and loads of places, even if it does put your ankles at a bit of risk... The first time I trained quite a lot for it and found myself wishing I'd do
Nice video mate, I am doing nettle warrior for the first time and not really sure what to expect. From what i've been told there is around an 8 mile run at the beginning, is that right? Are there any training exercises you would particularly recommend for me to do in the next couple of weeks.
@mozza987 I would reccomend any hard wearing off road running shoes...last year i ran it in some pretty old army issue silver shadows, and they did just fine! I would recommend not buying new shoes for the event, as they'll just get destroyed...by the end your feet are numb anyway, so as long as they survive the run at the beginning and dont get too heavy when they get wet, they'll be fine!
@stew038 Hi mate, depends really, i'd say some sort of fancy dress is a must as you stick out from the crowd, but because of some of the obstacles being able to rip your flesh i'd say long thermal top and bottoms, just make sure they dont hold too much water, another item i find really useful is to wear a swimming cap, as it keeps you warm throughout the race, even if it is a bit warm at the beginning. Finally cheap, thin gloves(sailing ones are ideal...)
Nice video. Want to check this out. How fit are you required to be to finish the race actually? Define myself as quite fit, but I dont have so much endurance experience...
@Heikki1 Hi mate, i'd say the main fitness you need is for the run at the beginning, thats 6 country miles (i'd say between 8 and 10 miles on flat ground) without any stops and at a relatively good pace...nothing too hardcore unless youre going to try and win it. Once you've got past the run theres normally just about enough time to catch your breath back, what with bottlenecks and general hold-ups.
@Heikki1 Also, A lot of the fitness i feel is mental, you've got to be able to push through the cold(it is rather chilly)
Being able to lift your own wait, whether it be climbing cargo nets or getting over logs is quite important also.On the day the camaderie really helps, everybody pushes each other along.
@lembo2000 hey buddy, theres a link to the camera in the description, but its a GoPro 5 megapixel headcam...absolutely amazing for any kind of extreme sport!
Bloody 'ell! I was going to enter this year, but am doing the London Marathon instead. Watching this though makes the butterflies come in my stomach. Seems impossible!
great video nice to finally see a first person view of the course i will be there next january i have started training now as i am unfit lol one question though is it as hard as you thought and what was the hardest part of the course for you??
Hey Buddy, i used the GoPro Wide-Angle Helmet Hero...it seems to be able to put up with anything... a link to it can be found in the box on the right!
Great vid, I saw a few people wearing cameras as I was going round. I've got a Sony HQ2 Bullet Cam and a DVX solid state recorder but I doubt they would be suitable for this event!! Normally use it for track days. Your camera is great quality though.
Great video did the same thing last year myself. I have to say its odd seeing myself in this one i am guy blue top jumping in front of you on the rope cross next to you leaving the tyre tunnel any way hope you did well i managed to complete in 1:58. How did you get on?
