  • Is there a version of Bokker T & The Mg's Green Onions with lyrics?

  • I use to listen to lightnin hopkins in my grandmother's living room.

  • I use to listen to lightnin hopkins in my grandmother's living room.

  • This is great! It makes me wonder what a jam between Lightnin' and Steve Cropper would have been like.

  • If you can listen to this without smiling, you're deaf! Great tune! Great man!

  • if you like Lightnin please check my videos, he inspired me very much.

Sorry for the whoring, but that's the only way to have just a little bit recognizition

  • Who did it first Lightnin' or Booker T? Please someone help!

  • @whayes8084 who do you think??

  • "soup ain't no good without onion..."

  • how can people not like this?Lightnin' is an all time great!

  • Y'NOW IT MAKES MORE SENSE YOU GOT A LOT O' ONIONS

    MMMMM LOVE 'EM ONIONS

  • Eleven people like white onions.

  • who could possibly dislike this ? :L

  • blue green onions

  • My pappy done inherited a soup bone what came down from his father. They used that soup bone for all kind a things you understand see? It could be used at Christmas. It could also be used at Thanksgiving. At the supper table we'd all pray the Our Father which art in heaven and thank the Lord up above for that soup bone. You can tell hard times is comin' because when you go down to the store to buy yourself a new soup bone they ain't none there. Hard times is here again.

  • that's hop-unless hurt copies his voice! doubt it -for sure

  • @1957belair01 why would you want to do that?

  • This is Mississippi John Hurt, isn't it? Not Lightnin' Hopkins. Pretty sure of this.

  • @Joody This is Lighting Hopkins for sure. It doesn't have Mississippi John Hurt's characteristic bass line, and nobody rambles more than Sam Lightning.

  • @Joody Lightnin all over, licks, style and most prominently his voice. Listen to some of the interviews with Lightnin, and you'll hear. There are some recordings I get Howlin Wolf and Leadbelly mixed up, and boy is that a mess.

  • y'know i've always liked that green onions tune... guess what? turned out to be blues at heart

as did the lovin spoonful's hot town

pretty much the only rock songs I wouldn't mind listening to

  • 10 people would rather do the stanky leg.

  • soup ain't no good without onions - so true!

  • John Sebastian of The Lovin' Spoonful payed tribute to Lightnin' Hopkins

  • look at all those pasty faces heh

  • this is funny, but I like it

  • Never heard this version before...awesome!

  • You gotta listen to Booker T & the MG's version. Listen to how things changed. Both versions are GREAT.

  • "i know you haven't heard this before so uh...yeah anyway i'm gonna play it. if there's anything wrong tell me."

  • Onion soup gives you wind. Green onion soup gives you.......green wind!

  • @HowlinWilf13 ..You so cr-a-zy!

  • oh man lightning is striking all over the place ....

  • Excellent. Greetings from Greece!!

  • Awesome

  • i'm hope you glad, if I say that i'm 16 years old etzm ;)

  • sea of white

  • Lightnin' loved people. Saw him many times between 1966-70, mostly in LA but the best was at a community center gig he played in Houston, where he loved. His music will always live. Blues is truth.

  • @bruceg4747 I'm so jealous of you. I'm 20 yrs old and unfortunately no one plays the blues like Lightnin'... Would've loved to see him in person play....

  • @911RogueStatus

Sometimes it's hard to say "I saw him/her blah blah" because it sounds like I did and you can't. I know that's not going on here. I'd be jealous too. BUT I think it's fantastic that you love Lightnin' and recognize his talent and contribution. Try to see any folks who are still around today and you'll one day say the same thing. Even back then, my friends and I realized that many of these blues masters wouldn't be around too long so we were indeed fortunate to see them.

  • "If Im wrong, just tell me" haha... watever Lightnin' you aint wrong!

  • king of the texas blues!

  • very, very nice...so rich and true and perfect

  • The climate of blues.

  • Anybody else get the sense that he didn't think much of 'Green Onions'?

  • @searcherboy

Oh Yeah! Sarcasium at it's best! Notice how little of it he played! HA too funny!

  • @springrobin How would he have done more? He's just one guitarist and he covered both the riff and a bit of Cropper's lead. He couldn't add the organ part, too.

  • @searcherboy Not really. Green onions makes a good soup. You aint got no soup if you aint got no onions. Ha

  • F**kin' awesome!

  • kool

  • bring a little pepper

  • What's happening here he's is demonstrating a "new" blues that's a unique boogie riff he's soloing over.

I would like to know if anyone has the tab or a tutorial on how to play this.

  • "yall just listen at this"

    its green onion ya hear

  • His monologues remind me of Hendrix's

  • AHH! there it is....does anyone know where I can find this on disc or any other form of media besides here?

  • @InkoziYmaKhosi amazon maybe

  • just download some youtube to mp3 converter and go nuts on here

  • the quality of doin that sucks, is there any technique to fixing it?

  • @jkuebler89

Use "fetchmp3" to download and convert it to a better quality.

You have to register but it only takes about 2 minutes.

  • "Po Lightin"

  • Never realized it was a cover tune.

  • haha, his introdution to the song is hillarious :D how many times he says " this is green onions" ? haha

  • @JackBauerin shut up

  • haha stupid turd.

    i think its sympathic

  • Hi, I didn't make that reply.. though I've been here all the time :S could someone have hacked into my youtube account? What else might they have hacked into :O

  • stupid is as stupid does: sympathic?

  • Green Onions was released in 1962. Lightnin' played till his death in 1982, which gave him 20 years to play it if he wished. He only did it once on this recording in homage to the new sound the blues had created called soul of which BT&MGs were masters shown by their many recordings with other soul artists. He did a reversal of what Clapton did with Johnson as a show of respect for his fellow musicians.Who's stupid now Tystick and OlivaMunn ?

  • Its not 'Green Onions", its 'Green Onion'! Bring the Pepper!

  • OohOohOOH this is nice.. OohOohOOh so sweeet........

  • i love green onions :>

  • Ah! so this is where Booker T. & The MG's got the song "Green Onions" from. I can hear the same lick that Steve Cropper does on their version in a cruder form.

  • Actually, Lightnin' was just doing a cover of their song. It's a great arrangement for solo acoustic guitar though.

  • Why it is called "Green onions", does anybody know?

  • 10 stars! great! true blues!

  • I'm So glad there is still people in this world that appreciate this great man, I'm sooo Glad and i'm aglad I dunno what to do. I'm just glad. lightin respect and also for them other fellas down there in the delta and not just for the texas blues off course.

Thank You Lightnin, my belly is full now!

  • @fig8slomo right on!

  • soup ain't no good without onions

  • Bring a little peppa'

  • My favorite part about listening to old live performances is being able to hear the artist chat with the audience. Jimi Hendrix and the Doors have some good exchanges with their audiences.

  • I hope this never gets turned into a commercial for selling green onions.

    I love Lightnin.

  • Nice. Pure Blues. Can't get any better than that.

  • Yes that niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

  • Thanks for this video clip. I just rented a great documentary DVD by Les Blank. It's called The Blues Accordin' To Lightin' Hopkins. It's really good!!!

  • ALL OF YOU ARE RIGHT !!!

  • that is some blues!!!!1

  • GREAT!

  • You know I find myself rockin' out to this again this morning. God it's soooo good. The thing is just his ability to jam. I mean I could listen to this a hundred times and try to play this exactly - note for note, but it just wouldn't sound THAT good. When he played though, he probably never played it the same way twice.

  • Solid. I love that about a third of this track is just him chatting up the audience. Classic bluesman storyteller mode in full effect.

  • my pick for best Bluesman of all times. never get tired of his talkin, singing and playin.

  • great voice--the audio equivalent of comfort food. the blues never make you happier than with the lightnin! where is this track from?
