Apart from being a beautiful piece, it also reminded me of a long-forgotten lil' series I like to call Castlevania. Good ol' Castlevania... I missed you so... Anyway, thanks for this! Always enjoyed this kinda music.
Im 59 years old , im fortunate to here this group in the 70s, i freinking love this music, used to have some of their lps, dont have them very sorry, but this guys were ahead of the time,

Rick Van Der Linden was absolutely the Best Piano/Organ Player technically speaking...... Maybe only Keith Emerson could compare.........Too bad he just wanted to re-arrange classical music tracks. He could have created great stuff if he had the inclination.
THEN, it was refreshing "the old BACH STUFF" Today it's no survivor..just a STILL well-played game with others highstandardmusic.
BACH WILL REMAIN.
I do not know that , will never prove that , ...it's a certainty ...if you know about MUSIC...if not, you'll probably be happy going ESKIMO...or INUIT.
Bach would be wondering in Heaven with those kept his music, here on earth, I mourn for all these years that music was played by "WEIRD PEOPLE"(no pun intended) thanks for make a recall to this music that never won't die.
A wracając do Toccaty d-moll Bacha - o wiele lepszą wersję zaproponowała brytyjska grupa "SKY". Moim zdaniem - chyba NAJLEPSZą "nowoczesną". A w sumie: Niech Zyje Bach!
Whoa! Why was I not made aware of this band years ago? I just stumbled on Ekseption minutes ago surfing YouTube. Symphonic rock has always been right up my alley. When I was 14 and first stumbled on my dad's Kansas "Leftoverture" album which he didn't listen to,I thought "Where has this this music been all my life?". From there on my own I discovered Genesis,Frank Zappa,ELP,Jethro Tull,The Enid, and so on. It's a crime that this kind of music isn't mainstream.
Have you heard of Kayak? They are a Dutch progressive rock band heavily influenced by classical music. Their keyboardist, Ton Scherpenzeel (another genius), occasionally worked with Ekseption's keyboardist, Rick van der Linden.
Of the Kayak videos available on YouTube, I especially recommend "Relics From a Distant Age",. of which there might be more than one posting. Look for the one featuring incredible visuals of surrealistic art--a treat for eyes and ears.
@RalfsLab Naw, man. You should be glad it isn't mainstream. Anything made mainstream becomes awful. I found out about these guys after hearing a group that opened for them called Maneige. They're amazing. If you love these guys, you'd LOVE Egg. Long live prog.
it's a interpertation of a bach Piece by a dutch band. I don't really care who the composer is. I only think that the band made a great song out of it. And did you know ElP was Inspired by Ekseption
The Original is from Johann Sebastian Bach, a german composer lived from 1685 - 1750. It´s called Toccata&Fuge BWV 565 and it was written for Organ. An incredible Piece of music... and a wonderfull interpretation by the genius of Rick van der Linden and Rein van den Broek.
Ekseption wasn't related by no way. The Nice was a concoction of the times...In those days, the emergeant groups were by all means Europeans who had the same goal. reunite all music in a way that inspiration and creativity were put to the max. Alternative music was born. Pretty mutch the 4 last albums of the Beatles, then, Yes, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Genesis and so on. Man, thank God those c.d's are always there. Peace!
Emerson and Ekseption - these are two different kinds of music and different ways of UNDERSTANDING the music. And - there is no way to tell who was better, or who was right. These were the times when any way of TRYING to interprete tha music was great. Too bad it is not the case today....
No, not everfybody! Thumbs up!! Twice! To many purists in this world - sorry for that! Another famous dutch singer sung: "Ab morgen sind wir tolerant." (Robert Long)
is it art rock??

Altough i like the arrangement from Sky more than this one, Ekseption is overall the best modern Bach band in the world

I didn't know Bach was from Holland.

lol Bach is not from holland(I thought Germany) but ekseption is a dutch band.

You said the 'song' was from Holland. Shouldn't then also the composer nessecerily be dutch?

It seems to me that it's quite the opposite:
Ekseption took inpiration after earing The Nice (of K. Emerson). But I could mistake.
Forgive my English.

I read somewhere about that fact of Exception - Nice...
But of course isn' t so important...
I totally agree with your description of "the birth of progressive rock" - as I could name it.
And much more agree when you " thank God..." for those groups having give us best music of the century!...
