  • If it does not move you emotionally, it doesn't matter how fast you play. These guys are technical wizards no doubt. However, in terms of tastee melodic and different sounding, I give my vote to Joe. Don't get me wrong Walter is good guitarist but he needs to let his playing breath a little. Too frenetic and "on" all the time is not good. Relax a little. It isn't the end of the world.

  • @luvdablz These are my thoughts exactly!

  • So bad ass.. Proud to say I've roadied for Walter and I was best friends with the organ players son's wayyyy back.. Walter is such a weird, funny, humble guy.. Seems like he's getting tire of it all though. Physically, not mentally.

  • teh guy with the blue looking shirt owns because of his Tone the other guy needs to use a bluesy or atleast a classic metal tone not a terrible over terblified and over distoretd tone sounds pretty bad,

  • Owning the stage.

  • check out joe bonamassa's cover of 'Stop' so good, the solo in it is flawless

  • Joe came in and donated his performance to the Grand County Blues Society, He woke the place up

  • this has to be in the top 5 greatest bits of guitar playing I ever heard, these two guys will live forever.

  • love this vid, Trout, and Joe are amazing

  • king kong versus godzilla

and i dunno which is which

but entire megalopolis downtowns are left totally obliterated

    in their guitar wake

  • brian may aint got nothing on joe bonamassa

  • Trout is a good player, but there is only a handful of guitarists in the WORLD that can keep up with Bonamassa.

  • Wish i was the strings on both guitars sweet

  • Walter & Joe i love you xxx

  • walter trouts playing just sounds like noise here..

  • @infinityjet get your ears checked, definately got ear problem

  • @jc6749

no seriously, i dont know if it's just because youre a big fan of him but just forget that for a minute and listen...his fast licks are exactly the same every time and are rather messy (but this is an opinion)

  • don't see any asskicking, either, except these two vicous sob's blistering a couple of overmatched guitars. long live the blues!

  • don,t see any ass kicking just too great blues players ,walter trout very underestimated in my view

  • Joe needs to play the strat n dump the log!! Sounds great!

  • Walter's OK, but unlike Joe he seems to think more notes = better solo's....it's just a mess of a shredding that sounds too repetitive. Joe has so much better technique and voicing to his solos. Good song tho' (L:

  • Pretty good, but those guys are kinda slow...

  • wow!my first time ,just discovered this guy,is great,

  • Got tickets to see Walter T on june 21st and tickets to see Joey B in october can not fucking wait!!!!!

  • Got tickets to see Walter on june 21st and tickets for joey B in october can noit fucking wait!!

  • "JOE ROCKS!" And you can quote us on that! Lil' Eddie & The Baaad Kitty

  • Joe is playing Walter's spare guitar the Vigier

  • Um, hold on let me pick my jaw up off the floor... There we go, wow, just wow, nothing like seeing two great guitar players doing what they do and love best. Seen them both live many times, and plan on keeping going!

  • by the time that video was post, joe bonamassa got 1000 times more famous ! :)

  • wow,all around..what am p was joe playing thru..big and round sound!

  • "best alive today" there are so many great ones, These 2 are surly favorites

  • Joe's sound is really cool, I wonder what amps and toys he is using?

  • @KQ222

EITHER A SUHR OR VIGIER GUITA. and propply a marshall jcm800 or sumthin like that. Wich is not his btw

  • i hate people who say this person kicks this persons ass or blah blah, fuck you dont know music if you say stuff like that

  • lucky enough to have seen walter about 3 times, must see joe sometime awesome!!!

  • yeah well check out what Joe & Walter can do in the studio together on Trout's "Full Circle" cd..."Clouds on the Horizon" is some of the finest guitar you will ever hear anywhere and it's hard to tell who is playing which part....unbelievable stuff

  • Wow Bonamessa has created so many avenues to travel and a nice fat tone. I Wish Trout had a fatter rounder tone. Just sounds like Gary Moore wankerish to me. Id actually would rather hear Yngwie play the blues if I had to sit through a whole set of either. . I do really like his singing voice though. He s a rocker at heart and you cant deny Trouts passion.

  • I am glad to see that Walter got all dressed up for the gig!

  • I don't think Walter is trying to prove anything, He likes to play and likes how Joe Plays..PS I would have loved to been the

  • I don't think Walter is trying to prove anything, He likes to play and likes how Joe Plays

  • Thanks for posting, just love Joe & Walter together!

  • Got some info fer the young'uns...Bonamassa is playing licks, note for note, that Buddy Guy was broadcasting back in the mid-1960s. Not much new under the sun.

  • @strandwolf

    yea....i dont think so.

  • @strandwolf

laughable conclusion at best. Buddy can't and never could play for shit.

  • @impala666 Don't try to compare two completely different styles. Buddy Guy is a bluesman, not a fluent guitarplayer. These two here are rock guitarists who don't understand a thing about blues.

  • @Bluesblaster

    well that's not true...

  • @ blackfriar1 - This is some SICK guitar work here.... thanks BF1 for posting it so we could all catch that high!

    @ todd5858 - love is subjective ;-) I don't see any asskicking here.

just two different styles and sounds.

seen em both many times, love em both for their different talents.

  • joe is playin a viger guitar right?? what kind of viger is it with the dimarzio area's in it? does some 1 knows? thanks joe is greaat !!!

  • walter is a good blues singer..but here, to me, his soloing just sounded like noise

  • Great God I LOVE this clip!

  • Joe on fire as always!

  • No doubt about it, Walter can play but what does he play. All the old progressions.

In a long solo he gets mighty boring.

  • No doubt about it, Walter can play but what does he play. All the old progressions.

  • trout can play, theres no denying it; but he just makes a loud noise - listen to Joe go - it's not just technical skill there; he's loving it! every inch of the man, racing up and down that fingerboard! the blues is all about soul, and boy, does Joe have soul!

  • way to video edit! cheers! Having a great time discovering Bonamassa!

  • @eric1love You should check out the "Joe Bonamassa: Live From Royal Albert Hall" DVD, it's incredible.

  • @TheBlackFriar1 - Will do, will do- hey I saw Bonamassa on the news last night over here in France- talking about the Album "Black Rock"

  • @TheBlackFriar1

didnt mean to be insulting ; )

it just seems that people think someone has a very emotional playing just because he is moving like that, thats whats bothering me...

  • @TheBlackFriar1 incredible is just the lame part of it... it´s more than amazing!!!

  • He can dance and stand on one leg too! I had no idea.

  • Walter plays with more passion than one man can contain sometimes!

  • @superiff12

moving around like an idiot and making a face like when u get shot in the balls doesnt make you a passionate player

  • @eyk234

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion I suppose, however being insulting towards Walter is just childish, he is a skilled player, different to Bonamassa, who I also like but for different "musical" reasons.

  • two great guitarist/bluesmen.

love them both, hard to say who is better they're both super.

  • You guys are missing the trolley when you say that Joe is better than Walter or vise-versa. C'mon, really? If you ask either one, they'd say the other. This is not a competition. This is two friends enjoying each others company!!

  • @apaulo59 As a professional player I honestly think Walter is trying to teach the new kid a lesson and loses some of his nuances as a consequence. I think this due to the body language but I am more than willing to accept I could be wrong. Just a thought anyway.

  • nice rec!

  • Yes really amazing guitarists both of them, and Bonamassa is clearly the superior one in skill in this performance. Funny though how overtime the blues guitar has seemingly become more and more the white man's domain and more so about technical ability, speed and competition, witch of course is fine and admirable etc.. But even though they manage to preserve the standard blues form and they play on its progression harmonies and rhythms, I don't think that's what the blues really is all about.

  • @ppericodelosppalotes truth!!

  • i have seen walter a few times and thought he was great but joe just kicks his ass here can't wait to see him in glasgow in october

  • How do you compare they are both great players in their own right!

  • great recording

    great sound

  • Two of my *MOST* favorites

  • LOve it!!

  • you just can't solo like Bonamassa does...

  • From Spain, ALL OF YOU GUYS ARE BEASTS!!!!

    Good sound and feel.

  • Sorry but trout's tone sucks! and i know it aint just cause the video, ive seen trout enough times down at Perqs in Huntington Beach to know. First few times i saw trout it was cool but after that hes whole gig becomes monotonous, shrill thin loud crappy tone bustn your ear drum, can't stand it! Now..joe on the other hand...well just listen, he has great tone and this 97 lol take a good listen to joe now 2010. just my opinion thats all.

  • two great guitarists having a beautiful blues jam session...nobody be kicking anybody else's ass here...

  • joes last lick! mr trout just thinks 'I aint touching that!'

  • Joe is the man!

  • Walter Trout kicks ass!

  • Wished I had seen this in person.

  • Joe's first solo is awesome, I love how creative he is!

  • JUST NICE big time man, thanks to both

  • you know, I love me some Walter Trout, but Joe just absolutely kicks his ass here. Tone, chops, the whole works. Incredible performance by two great bluesmen, one of whom is probably the best alive today...

  • I have yet to ee Joe, seen Water twice, honestly would never pay to see him. Too contrived, boring,, repetitive. Bonamassa abasolutely drops him in Two Rounds.

  • @todd5858 Walter has a shit tone possibly due to the recording rather than his ability. When I see him he comes across a billion times better than that. Joe Bonamassa is also awesome. Truly awesome. I just wish I could have been there. The only people who kicked butt were the ones who saw that. Awesome.

  • @todd5858 2 very different styles with these 2 but I think when you get to this level, it's hard to say who's better. It's a matter of taste at this point. They are both masters of their craft.

  • 3 words: Mark Edward Fitchett

  • must`ve been recorded some time ago. I think JB`s dumped the strats and only plays Gibson now :-(

  • I say they are rather good are'nt they!!!

  • I think vigier just earned a new customer

  • @9reasy5am

It ain't the wand, it's the magician.

  • It's refreshing to hear a Strat playing bluesman actually use the bridge pickup. They're always using the damn neck pickup.

Walter has some serious ants in the pants at 4:30!

  • and what's your problem with the bass pickup?

  • @9reasy5am the bass, I suppose

  • No problem - they never use the bridge pick up. It's nice to see a blues playing Strat guy use the bridge pick up for a change.

  • I think it is a sur strat

  • @Danuet Eric Johnson plays with the bridge pickup too

  • He does but he's not really a blues player.

  • i seen walter trout play years ago. arguably one of the best. just missed bonamassa a few months ago. guess i really missed out

  • To sum up their approaches, Walter is more raw, working mans blues and Jooe has the polished college educated flavour that appeals to the nice people of the world. Both have their markets but to say Walter is not up to the task anymore with stale playing is a bit harsh. He has been commednded for his playing by and played with the best in the world so he must be doing something right! variety is the spice of life . long live the blues.............whichever form it takes

  • i seen walter trout play years ago. arguably one of the best. just missed bonamassa a few months ago. guess i really missed out, and if everybody sounded the same nobody would have anything to talk about. yeah sometimes we have off days. guess you can't make everybody happy

  • Joe's lick were much more original and clean sounding

  • Oh, my God! Joe you save my life!

  • "Man that was fun...." I thought that's what it's about.....

  • Trout was taking only a weekend. Let it be.

  • i think there both amazing, so wht if walter is repetetive, you should play coz yu love it not to make money and if your insuling him then i dnt thin he would care, if he loves his music then thats enuff for me :)

  • I could AGREE more LyndseyyyLee. Trout has become a mere caricture of himself. It is almost laughable now when I hear his Woooo's, and when he changes keys with his voice, trying to sound all bluesy. I have seen him twice...same tired notes, phrases and riffs..and his guitar tone is pitiful. Soung for song, gear, playing, Bonamassa dismantles him. Trout is still playing after all these years alot of dive bars to were Bonamassa would never have to play to earn it.

  • @colderbythelake

I think they just have two very unique styles , to say Bonamassa dismantled him is bullshit. Both are very talented but diferent styles , And maybe Walter likes playing some dives . I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn at the Polish Ameican Center in Gardner Mass 1989 played for maybe 200 people tops , it was pouring rain and many of the other bands that day cancelled , Stevie played a whole set in the pouring rain . I rememember his first song " Couldn't stand the Weather"

  • Stand by my comments. Walter has been playing for DECADES, still in IMO he is beyond nothing but a mere caricature of himself. Bonamassa, regerding actual song wrting, ability, tone, performance, appearance shows that Trout hasn't grown much in any of those areas, and to me doesn't really care. I have seen him several time...and after awhile I said...ENOUGH of the same hideous tone, overpalying of every phrase, like watching someone do scale exercises, no soul just going through the motion

  • joe killed walter trout.. i never realized how repetitive walter was, its almost embarrassing

  • @LyndseyyyLee and joe is not repetitive?? have u ever seen 1 of his shows?? ps i love joe but what you are telling us is kind of BS srry

  • @LyndseyyyLee walter trout is one of the fastest finger picking players on earth.... i've seen him and i have seen joe but i have to say that walter is more inventive than joe .. but most of all ik like joe better than walter:) grzz

  • @Jerseylespaul Check out Albert Lee for finger pickin fella he is the greatest as stated by most great guitarists. These guys are good Albert is great although different kind of music..

  • i meant that strat style-single coil..

  • Joe with a strat!!!!! Hell yeah both kick ass!!!

  • Joe won

  • Joe is playing a Vigier guitar.

  • You are people of individual freedom. I love you. Go on. We are going towards NWO, towards 1984 by George Orwell, take care........

  • srv was the only one who got it........

  • Be dudes, chill & enjoy. You don't Walter and Joe bitchin'

  • walter trout and joe bonamassa are the best guitarists ever so fuck off all you people dissing them like to see you that famous playing a gig oh no wait, its never gonna happen.

  • Joe wins

  • a real blues guitar players shows up with just a guiatar and his amp cranked and thats it...I think these guy's killed the song...B.B King can play one note and the game is over

  • Sorry. never cared for trout. his "squeeze as many notes into a bar a possible" approach to blues is BORING. It's hard, and ugly, and his tone is CRAP. there. I said it. sounds like he's strangling a cat.

  • not a big trout fan either. kinda got repetative while joe was pulling out some great, classy phrases. thats why i like joe. he can rip it up but also take his time and just make a killer lick.

  • ya!

  • Music is personsal interpretation of the artist and his her/ blues feelings ,and when they hit that sound/ WOW! More power to music becausevit brings people together ?

  • What a great video! I give Joey 1 year, and he is going to be huge in America.

  • Comment removed

  • I've seen both of these gentlemen. (3X for Walter). These boys kick some serious ass. I wish I could have seen this jam live!

  • amazing, amazing, amazing, amazing!

  • poor bass player...stands between them and is not allowed to join in the solo

if i would be bass player i wouldnt play the blues

  • Oh; Bassists are often very welcome to goof around in blues; Just look at Cream, one of the most awesome bass playing's in music right there!

  • LOL @ walter hanging with Joe. Besides Gary Moore, nobody out there hang with Joe.

  • Very Eric Johnson at 8:10 - 8:25

  • jeez, Blues is turning into shred guitar here!!

  • its still pretty far from shred. but why does that matter? i hope you dont think speed=no emotion...

  • @timmy47 yes i do and it does!

  • @tommy1gtr in this case anyways

  • @tommy1gtr then your an idiot.

  • @timmy47 no YOUR an idiot!

  • @tommy1gtr speed as nothing to do with emotional input. just look at blues piano players or many great jazz players or classical music. speed is just an option. both are clearly very into what they are playing. people who think technical ability or speed takes away from feeling are just making excuses as to why they arent better players. besides, i dont see how repeating the same old blues licks that people have played for 50 years has more "soul".

  • @timmy47 just because some people think speed takes away from feeling that does NOT always mean they are making excuses as to why they are not better players!! some people just don't prefer or like that intense style of playing (or wanking). and that also does not mean they are just going to repeat the same blues licks over and over again ethier.

  • @tommy1gtr maybe so, but 9 times out of 10 that seems to be the case. if you dont like it, fine. but saying it lacks soul or something is just wrong and you ARE making an excuse. you are trying to justify what YOU think is "better" by saying it has more soul than fast or highly technical playing. btw, i think trout is "wanking" here and didnt enjoy it. joe seemed to have more class and tasteful playing even when playing more advanced stuff. i dont think either lacked soul though.

  • Comment removed

  • joe = 100X Better!

  • walters shrill "tone" hurts my ears! if thats what you wanna call it.....tone

  • how much does the vigier excalibur cost. I wanna buy one possibly

  • it costs about 1600 dollars i belive you can look it up they got a own site where they have list prices

  • What guitar is joe bonamassa playing!?

  • vigier excalibur i think mate

  • looks like a siarra

  • Why do people automatically assume that there's some sort of big musical feud going on?

these guys are way beyond the "my dicks bigger than yours" mentality. ..music and feel are what it's all about man.. whether it be fast or slow... feel!

  • I actually laugh reading most of these comments....2 things: 99% of the folks writing here couldn't come close to EITHER of these guys talent-wise; and they have VERY different styles - fingerpicking (joe) vs plectrum (Walter) - so of course they sound different.....geez

  • Eric Gales! Anyone who does not know of this man, must now go research. Then bask in the glory. :)

  • I was just waitin for joe to start tryin. I think he held back a little out of respect for walter but it would have been cool to see joe blow his head off! he could if he wanted too!

  • You've got to be kidding! I love Joe, he's a freak!...but come on, Walter Trout, can play with anybody, and I seriously doubt that he feels intimidated by anybody.

  • I think a UFO got ahold of Mr. Trout at 5:58.

Nice guitar playing by both though.

  • HA HA

  • He looks possessed at 4:31

  • Ahaha; Hilarious at 5;58 indeed, Ufo, Haha.

    Great video as well!

  • Silkee59 you're being a little hard on Walter- while I prefer Bonamassa's style to his and feel that Joe essentially plays better licks- its obviously a value judgement on my part- Walter was probably trying too hard since he was sharing the stage with Joe-but he has his own style as well which has some value

  • I've seen them both plenty and have had the pleasure of speaking with them both. They are both terrific musicians and great guys. I do some promotional work for Joe when he comes to my State. But I talk both of them up!.....Roy

  • Both amazing, but Trout just seems like he trys to play as fast as he can all the time without putting much musicality or phrasing into it. I've heard wonderful solos played on nothing but 4 or 5 moderately moving notes.

  • Totally agree with you ferronator, and that's what puts me off Walter Trout.

    Bonamassa, excellent.

  • i agree too with you guys walter is playing too mutch notes i think he is scarred of by joe xD

walter there is not playing like a musician but like a noteshitter, but i think walter is a good player

  • sadly, I have to agree...he's obviously so talented, but I find myself daydreaming rather than listening and being moved...Mato Nanji is the best one out there right now

  • Trout over plays and tries way to hard,

Less is more, he has no tone no taste and uses no space. Sorry this guy is a second rate bar star if that not blues.

  • Great playing .... of 2 of the best guitar players in the world. I hope to see Joe sometime, i realy want to see him playing live.

and i can ensure you .... walter rocks live.

in 2 weeks im going for the 3rd time to a concert of him in holland .... i will be great.
