Nice Video! if you like class 50's you should take a look at British Railways - Class 50 on facebook where you can upload your own videos and share your own pictures.... in the future we can also look at providing upto date news on the last remain class members, lets build a class 50 community
would these animals be have been running though petersfield in the mid 80's?.I can remember standing on a green near my great aunts and hearing these pulling out of station on full tap for half mile.I can still hear it today wonderful sound
Ah good old locos they so damn better than the stupid 66's and 67s that we have to contend wiv now adays and also better than the Adalentes and voyergers. grand video anyway
Bloody good show! I love 50's, always have. I have some sketchy memories of seeing them on the lines, but they're not so vivid as I'm only 25. I do love that sound though and I'd love to see one in the flesh, as it were. Good work on this folks, keep 'er lit!
I remember these on the line through Newbury and Thatcham. You could hear them coming more than a mile away - very distinctive. I had all 50 crossed off in my Ian Allan book :-)
@PESTinUK totally agree there was nothing better looking and awsome sounding than the deltic i wish they were still growling up and down the mainline i saw 55022 on the 31st and it was a case of ye dont know what youve got untill its gone get all the diesels back espesiallythe DELTIC
(Responding to comments left at the Bottom) Thats why i no longer spot trains they all look the same in that dull EWS livery nothing really worth waiting for at the trackside now. Cant wait to have a closer look at a 50 they were all getting withdrawn when i was old enough to go riding around on the network.
fuckin ell talk about smokin ur self out...lol and wat i always wondered is why do all the locos with english electrics hav tht distinctive throbbing sound?? is tht to do with the engine itself or the exaust outlets????
We conquered the world, we had an empire. Our engineering pioneered travel and the put " Great " into Britain - now all our industries have gone, we don't seem to make things anymore and we get crap from China and to add insult to injury, import class 66's and 67's and had a mass scrapping and ended up with not enough rolling stock - what an absolute shambles.
On the upside, we have massive warehouses everywhere literally, and more supermarkets than you can shake a stick at in every town in the land...... England has now become one bloody big distribution & supermarket mecca. I echo your sentiments friend.
@Bridport6705 Just to add to your knowledge, 'Great Britain' actually comes from the fact that the British Isles were the larger part of then Britain, the smaller, or 'Lesser Britain' being the area which is now known as Brittany in France.
Completely irrelevant to your point, but I found that out today, so thought I would share it. And don't be too disheartened, we do make things. Brilliant things. I do, however, agree that Britain's railways have always been poorly organised and mismanaged.
@edj66 And I should add, underfunded and massively undervalued by successive governments. Even in the beginning, the government did not get involved, which meant that the railway system developed in this country was badly planned from the word go. Beeching, while reviled amongst some circles, and possibly slightly too zealous with his ideas, was by and large right, Britain's railways did need pruning. Blame the government who didn't have a strategic vision for them though. Belgium got it right!
Yeah, stick yer 220's get these back on! BR refit murdered them anyway, they were probably the best Loco's of their day and were way ahead of their time.
Having said that look for the Hawker siddeley Kestrel 4000 (another feat of great English engineering which got Killed)
@Slarty252 Sold to the Ruskies my friend, thats a bit like the TsR2 aircraft, a waste of money cos the yanks hated the fact that we had an aircraft better than them by 30 years or so.
16csvt I deleted your comment in error sorry... The hissing noise is being caused by a decompression plug on B bank not sealing correctly, problem now sorted.
exellent loveley to see a dubbing 50 back in the right direction, will this be going mainline? and do you know where it will be based, a preserved railway perhaps?
well done though chaps. first class restoration job. it is a shame more preserved locos are not able to receive this level of restoration, especially those in the national collection
Although 50's are not really my thing, I have followed the restoration over the years and take my hat off to the job you have all done. The attention to detail is outstanding and 26 looks better than new. Well done.
All the plugs open for the first turnover to allow the fuel through into the cylinders. One plug was not in enough on B6 on the second start as you can hear on the video clip.
Having seen the state of this first hand when you bought it, I never thought for one minute you would actually pull this off. Hats off to you....its gonna be the danglies when its finished.
do u have any vids of the engine running with out hissing sound now its sorted??

Is that the battery box smoking underneath?
FM60260 1 month ago
these things lost to EMDs...
GordonFreemanD40 2 months ago
the smoke is a cunning design, it was to make the steam engine drivers feel more at home.........yes I am joking before anyone corrects me.

Excellent...thanks for posting.
I've just fitted a sound decoder to one of my Hornby class 50's, so I was looking for a vid of the real thing to compare it.
Has to be one of the best looking diesels ever made. (except for perhaps the Deltic... of course).
