  • I speak from personal driving experience. My 1979 DT466, and 1982-1988 S1800s did not have glow plugs. However, our 1984-1985 S1700s did.

  • I can tell this bus is from New York-note the side emergency exit.

  • simplified...any commonrail injected diesel does not have glow plugs

  • @rls1400 my magic school bus won't turn on, mind if i borrow yours?

  • I never understood why the exhaust pipe on a school bus goes all the way to the back of the bus. Why not just straight up, like on a semi truck?

  • thank you for posting this. I sure miss the S-series buses. I use to own an 1985 IH/Thomas 77 pass with the DT-466 and 5 speed spicer manual. i miss cold starting that bus since i also drove it on route in 1999. i now drive an 2006 IC which is a pos i wish they still made ih thomas buses

  • @ihcs1800 hmm 2006 IC is a POS if its a IC CE you must have the CE200 my driver drives an 06 IC CE300 very minimal issues out of it always runs great

  • I love the smell of diesel on a cold winter morning!

  • unhappy son of a bitch

  • @jminnesota If you over heat them they are done. Only bad side, other than that decent fuel mileage and power. Don't over heat the engine 220 is fatal.

  • oh wow, you just sold this on ebay. Nice bus, wish i could have bought it.

  • I saw road side assistance jump starting a truck with one of those engines at 0F. Ran exactly like this one, complete with smoke. At 0:35 I'm surprised the engine is able to run on its own at all.

  • u should let it wait like 7 second b4 starting, its better 4 the bus and it gives it a chance for the fuel pump to pump

  • white smoke, burning oil

and someone didnt wait for the glow poug light to go off

  • There are no glow plugs on a DT466...

  • that is true be it from what i have been told on youtube is the DT466 DTA360 and DT408 dont have glowplugs just the T444E has them

  • in the county i go to school in they have 3 dt466 buses that are newer models and i and they have glow plugs in them i have been told by the drivers there 03 models

  • are you positive they are DT466's if it has a wait to start light then it has glowplugs if not there is no glowplus from what i have been told

  • yeah im pretty sure we have dt466 with glowplugs this bus probaly don't for the simple fact that its older unless our county orderd glow plugs for our buses but like i said i pretty sure some of them do im only 14 and i know alot about school buses

  • well none of our DT466's have a wait to start indicating that there is no glowplugs

  • i just found out we do have a wait to start light on all of our buses in the county but i don't think we have glowplugs for any of the buses maybe a few iwhth glowplugs but i have one question can a bus still be plugged in if they have glow plugs because all of ours are always plugged in

  • @kody912 im not really sure about it but i do know that some of the buses wait to st

art comes on during self test

  • I doubt there are glow plugs. There may be an intake heater, but I seriously doubt any glow plugs.

  • You are right 03 and up came with an intake heater.

  • You are correct

  • our newer internationals come from the factory with a wait to start light but it never comes on if it comes on at all it would be when my driver hits the lamp check button during pretrip or during self gauge test

  • @rls1400 hahahah

  • yeah and white smoke aint oil, its unburnt fuel, also the sign of a cold diesel, oil is blue

  • yes oil is blue but white smoke isnt unburnt fuel either it is burning coolant and unburnt fuel causes black smoke but since its a diesel it will smoke black anyway

  • It's not coolant, its fuel. All you have to do is get a whiff of it and you know its diesel smoke, its just gray. Check out my videos of a 6V92T cold start, gray smoke!

  • @liquidgiggles, if the engine burns oil, it be blue smoke, white smoke means the engine is cold and warming up, same way with petrols, get your facts right about the smoke color

  • it doesnt even sound like a dt 466

  • WHATS UP WITH THE SUN although ive seen it like that

  • WOOO HOO YOU GOT IT STARTED

  • Wow i havent seen one like this in good shape i love your bus

  • problems with Sumter SD 2 Fleet: Thomas HDX gathering dust after engine fire up on rear glass, where engine is, BB/Int'l/Carpenter S1600(i think)break downs in cold weather, and 30 mins. inside to heat up for students in winter/fall,opposite in summer/spring,Thomas C2 warning lights going off randomly, and Thomas FS-65 break-down in cold weather, brake dust constantly. im a noob with buses, only 14 years old. thanks. jake

  • 1:30 Black Hole Sun? Ive worked on International diesels .. never came across one that has no glowplugs. (shrugs)

  • since you say you work on international diesels ive heard that the DT466 DT408 and DTA360 do not have glowplugs unlike the T444E international that does

  • That bus don't have glow plugs my dads school bus sit @ home as he can do that and i start it every school day for him and its starts hard sometimes and sound like that try starting them in 5 and lower i have to jump it most of the time!

  • There are no glow plugs on a DT466. And skodas I didn't rev it since it was not warmed up, don't want to blow up the engine.

  • DT466's dont use glows?? Dude, what diesel doesnt?!? I have a friend whos dad works for our bus garage and yes they do have glows. Your bus sounded like crap when you started that.

  • Uhhh... you need to brush up on diesel engines and diesel engines in buses. The DT466 engines have NEVER used glow plugs. No DT has whether a DT360, DT408, or DT570. Want to know other engines that don't? Cummins ISB, Cat 3208, Detroit 8.2, and the list goes on and on.

Yes the bus sounded like crap when it started, it is 20 years old, 20 degrees out and sat for 7 months. Good luck firing up a new bus and having it sound any better!

  • cat c3208 dunt have them and starts better than most that do

  • @rls1400 You're right. The DT and the Cummins do NOT use glow plugs. I believe that the 8.2L Detroit did, but I'm not sure. I know for a fact that the CAT-3116, CAT-3126, IDI, T444E, VT, and Maxxforce 7

  • @rls1400 You're right. The DT and the Cummins do NOT use glow plugs. I believe that the 8.2L Detroit did, but I'm not sure. I know for a fact that the CAT-3116, CAT-3126, IDI, T444E, VT, and Maxxforce 7 do

  • @rls1400 a new bus would not sound any better if it sat that long and you are correct a 466 doesnt use glowplugs especially newer IC Buses they have according to Matts4290 here on youtube a wait light cause of he either said it was an intake heater or grid heater dont really remember

  • @rls1400 a new bus would not start any better either people need to learn to read the description first you clearly stated it had not been a drive for 7 months

  • @killercan10, well duhh, when you 1st started the diesel engine, it will run like crap, because the diesel fuel is thick inside the injector pump and the injector, after it warms up the diesel fuel under the hood, it will run like a top, i used to have a diesel cadillac, i never plug it in in cold season and it fires right up with the glow plugs, but i let it warm up before i drive off, unless you want a cold diesel engine gives you shitty fuel mileage

  • @killercan10 no DT has glow plugs DT466 DT360 DT408 or any DT does not have glow plugs

  • @killercan10 Even a series 60 doesn't have any.

  • did you wait for the glow plugs???

  • why no reving see other bus vids

  • Great job

  • Awesome video.. do a few more with the cold cranking starts its awesome..

  • GREAT !! Can you pleace make one with the camera outside, so we dont her the buzzer !?
