I reported to bootcamp on June 8th, 1997, ten days after I graduated highschool. It was the shit. It is so simple yet so fucking tough. Don't fucking give up and don't think about home, everything is fine there. I left active duty five years later(2002). After that, you can almost spot a Marine anywhere. You will meet some that are forty or fifty years older and be treated like a brother/sister. You will have the best memories of your life, funny, sad, tough, easy, etc...
U kno what my fav thing about the Marine Corps is..? While ur in the dep, they focus you so much on bootcamp. You dont think about life in the fleet. Bootcamp prepares u for it, but when ur signin away you dont think about it like its important. ... Likewise whe u r do e with training and at war, theh teach u how to survive, how to accomplish shit. But they do teqch you how to deal with the nightmares and the shaking n the torture.. Sometimes i wish i died over there

Ok I feel left out. When I arrived at reception for the Army the Drill Sergeant was like, "Hi come over here and do this paper work" "Ok cool now go get some PT's and go to sleep" I was wondering if I was at fucking summer camp at that point.

@batbomb9 Those "yellow footprints" ain't no joke. Air Force has something like that but without the footprints. You get rushed off the bus, and have to form up quickly(that's when you get to your barracks after Personnel in-processes you). Already you get tested on military bearing via the position of attention.
The worst part is the "drop-and-pick-up" game with your luggage. I was the idiot who carried 3 bags. One of the MTIs chunked the smallest one, and I had to rush after it.

@20eXtreme00 As a Marine, I must tell you good luck in your adventure. It's going to push you past your limits. Just don't give up and try your hardest to not get hurt at any point during your 3month journey. If you don't give up on yourself, the DI's wont give up on you.

@23PorkNBeans People in general, it's earned the name because of how much training they have to go through and how extremely intense it is. There are less then 350 active duty PJ's in the military today.
it's funny how everyone in the service cracks jokes on different branches, but to be honest, making it through the first few months of hell is what brings service members closer together than anything. i just went through special forces selections with a few former marines that said there is nothing worse than initial training. we can laugh at it now but dammit it wasnt funny lol
SOI was so much more fun and harder than boot camp. The worst part about boot camp is how you're cut off from the rest of the world, can't eat what you want, pretty much have no freedom.
Ahh the fun years. Have to have enough mentallity to know its just training and to keep up with the training. Yeah got your few that get screwed with more than others. I enjoyed boot camp, and laugh every time I see vids like this, because i've been through the same sh*t. Its all just part of training, thats all anyone ever needs to know.

It teaches you about the real USMC and it tells you what you need to do and need to hear and not what you want to hear. It is a site filled with good honest info about the USMC that you wont find anywhere else on the internet.
i look back at boot camp and realized it was probably the easiest thing I have done in the Corps besides liberty and stand by... I'm pretty sure any other grunt would say the same
@GenOric no not even close, I have worked with the ROK Marines, Thai Marines, and the Assie Marines, the Aussies have it the worst of the three but none are up to par with a cycle of USMC boot camp. Besides, it doesn't end at boot they still have a long way to go after graduating as far as training. This produces THE MOST disciplined Marine of any basic training

@technoat0m You're being very critical of what very few can call a sacred brother/sisterhood. It's not your place to tell anyone what to do with their lives. You should be grateful for people that serve so you can have that skewed opinion. You also need to realize that there are more jobs in the armed forces than just infantry.
P.S. Tomorrow I'll be running my MOT/IST then it's less than a month to step on those yellow footprints to be "dehumanized" and earn the title of U.S. Marine.

@20eXtreme00 As a Marine, I must tell you good luck in your adventure. It's going to push you past your limits. Just don't give up and try your hardest to not get hurt at any point during your 3month journey. If you don't give up on yourself, the DI's wont give up on you.

My husband has 27 days left in bootcamp so glad his day is almost here! To watch this video is a HUGE eye opener to see the beginning of challenges all the men and women who are now Marines go through. These individuals deserve Respect at it's finest!

it's funny how everyone in the service cracks jokes on different branches, but to be honest, making it through the first few months of hell is what brings service members closer together than anything. i just went through special forces selections with a few former marines that said there is nothing worse than initial training. we can laugh at it now but dammit it wasnt funny lol

Ahh the fun years. Have to have enough mentallity to know its just training and to keep up with the training. Yeah got your few that get screwed with more than others. I enjoyed boot camp, and laugh every time I see vids like this, because i've been through the same sh*t. Its all just part of training, thats all anyone ever needs to know.

@Male125 ..If you are serious about enlisting into the USMC then go read through the website that is linked on my profile page. It goes to a site for FutureJarheads and it will only benefit you.
It teaches you about the real USMC and it tells you what you need to do and need to hear and not what you want to hear. It is a site filled with good honest info about the USMC that you wont find anywhere else on the internet.

@GenOric no not even close, I have worked with the ROK Marines, Thai Marines, and the Assie Marines, the Aussies have it the worst of the three but none are up to par with a cycle of USMC boot camp. Besides, it doesn't end at boot they still have a long way to go after graduating as far as training. This produces THE MOST disciplined Marine of any basic training
