  • Same issue here.... we consumers pay hell lot of money for something that breaks or fails that easy.... it sucks, as simple as that!!! we deserve something better!!!

  • thank you so much dude!

  • I thought I was the only one with this problem, lol. But hitting the space-bar after watching a full-screen video really does fix the issue every time for me. Although a fix would be nice, it will never happen for older laptops(2 or 3 years old) unless adobe flash updates inadvertently fixes the issue, lol.

  • Umm very simple fix for this, push ctrl alt del, then esc that menu and it works again.

no need to restart computer or processes

  • The space bar trick works...

  • ima try reinstalling

  • I get this problem as soon as I open any video in full screen (I have the HP Pavilion dv7) I used to just log off, and then log back in. The space bar trick seems to be a much quicker fix.

  • hey der...i hav a sony viao laptop..now i don know wat goes wrong but suddenly the scroolin of a touch pad has stooped..can u tell me how i can reactivate the scrolling?? plzz,,thnx

  • The same thing happens with mine. The only way it starts working again is when I restart the whole laptop.

  • I have this problemn and it is F*CKING annoying as hell. I'll try that fix, thanks! :)

  • Lol! I have had this issue for ages! Thanks for the tip! (Press spacebar to reactivate the edge dragging.)

  • I've been dealing with this annoying problem for months now. Who knew I'd find the solution in Youtube comments, lol.

  • my notebook is siemens amilo pro with synaptics touchad & for me is enough step1&step2 :)

  • i have a toshiba satellite pro

wat i did was i went ctrl, alt, del

then the task manager came up

i went onto the processes tab

and i right clicked on synaptics pointing device helper

    and ended the process

  • @SuperWogz22 Hi! Thanks so much for posting this, my scroll was driving me mad and this worked!!!! Thank you so much!!! :-)))))

  • @SuperWogz22 FUCK YEA MAN! THANK YOU SO MUCH.

  • Thanks for the solution to the scroll problem, its a pain in the ass.

  • My laptop does this and it's annoying. Thanks for the "spacebar trick". Before knowing that trick, I was ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manager, going to processes tab, then scrolling in the window, then closing task manager.

  • Bringing the fix to the front page for the benefit of others with the problem:

    [FIX]

josephwii: "Tap the space bar on your keyboard to reactivate the touch scroll"

    [/FIX]

    Thanks Josephwii.

  • this is gonna sounds weird but it works for me. when your touchpad stops working after maximizing a video, open a new tab and go to google. then type in "dell touchpad" and bam! your touchpad will magically start working again. it doesn't work if you type in anything else. at least from my experience. try it out and let me know if it worked for you.

  • OK, this sounds completely fucking retarded.

Thing is.... I tried it. It works.

    Now..... someone explain it! PLEASE!

  • Seriously, this has me confused.

I can search for any other word and it won't work....

I can search for "dell" or "touchpad" and it won't work...

But if I search for "dell touchpad" it works. Also, "dell touch pad" works. As does any sentence with "dell touchpad" in it"

  • the reason "dell touchpad" works is simply because you press the space bar between words and as we see here pressing space fixes the issue lol but i do wish synaptics or adobe would address it

  • josephwii has the answer. Thanks

  • FWIW, although this bug disabled my scrolling in Vista, it has zero effect in Linux. That is, I still enjoy full trackpad functionality while running Ubuntu Linux on my Dell M1330 XPS.

  • DennisMoore

    Great and so Simple

    Thanks a lot !

  • Thanks for the tip! Works like a charm on my vista hp pv6000

  • i have the same problem woth my HP dv7... i didnt know it was because of the fullscreen,,,,,

    what a crapy system uhhh???

  • Am running ubuntu here and no problem here touchpad works fine

  • Attention I Have The Answer!!!! The problem is Mozilla Firefox and Google Chromes Flash Player in "Full Screen Mode" After you attempt to watch a video on you tube or some wear else in full screen using this two browsers the touch pad scroll deactivates its self at the moment!!! The Solution Is - Tap the space bar on your keyboard to reactivate the touch scroll!!! It works 'Every Time."

  • Awesome! It works. Thanks for providing such a simple yet effective solution ;)

  • joseph you rule dude. i was using another method I found -- switching to a tab and hitting CTRL+F and doing a text search in the page which always brought it back.. for some reason I always had to search for at least two words for it to work. now I realize it was the space button that was returning the functionality.

  • tried it but doesn't work for me... I have a hp dv9260nr and latest firefox. the only way I get scroll back is to disable then reenable the touchpad.

  • dude u f'in rock!! this has been annoying me for the longest time, thanks a bunch!

  • Thank you VERY much!

You saved me and other people a lot of unearned anger.

I hope Synaptic and Adobe get together and fix this, so we don't need workarounds anymore.

  • Thanks man, this bug was most annoying, i was very nearly going to throw my laptop out the window :)...

  • Thanks man, it was driving me mad having to disable and re-enable my trackpad all the time on my M15X.

  • Marry me Joseph! Thank you so much!

  • thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ive been putting up with this for a year. my solution was to restart. now i feel like a fool

  • @josephwii Brilliant! This has been pissing me off for some time now.

  • hp nc6320

Same problem here, flashplayer fullscreen (ie or firefox) - but: The Click Anywhere + Press Spacebar does the trick.

Thanks a lot folks! This has been annoying me for quite a while now... :-)

  • false.

I have a synaptic touchpad with the multi media keys.

I just did what you said, and viola, i can still scroll.

    I am in linux though.

  • This is not about the spacebar or any special word. Its only about working with the keyboard. If you just press some keys (have no idea how many, maybe 7-8) you are gonna have the scroll again. (I've had the problem for months, each time I faced the problem I started to search in google and magically the problem got solved! So I'd let it go. the key is typing, that's it.

  • I've had this problem since day 1 and have had this HP laptop for a little over a year.

My solution was to p/w lock the computer then unlock it and the touchpad would work again. Worked 100% of the time but was f'ing annoying.

This "left-click then tap the spacebar" is much more preferable. Thanks.

  • yes the spacebar thing works. That activates the virtual scrolling when it stops working. Just tap the spacebar a few times and it'll start working again. I've been trying to find a solution to this and that's it. I've tried reinstalling drivers and everything else. Just tap the spacebar when it stops working.

  • I suspect its something to do with the flash player........

  • Nope, my touchpad is still affected at times.

  • Try pressing the spacebar on a page to enter 'scroll mode', works for me!

  • Thanks it works!!!! Just place the Mouse an the white Ground and press the left Mouse button. After that hit Spacebar and than you get back the scroll function!

  • wow, i've had this problem for soooo long and you just fixed it like that. amazing.

  • It works!!!Thanks so much for this!! I was so frustrated i was about to throw the damn laptop out the window =P

  • Thanks a million!!!!!!

  • to fix it, ctl+alt+delete, then escape key (in vista).

  • Interesting, I will have to try that when I get my computer back. Still it's bug that needs to be fixed.

I've managed to open a case now and hopefully they will call me in a not to distant future, telling me they've patched it.

  • oh yeah... that does seem to fix it ;) Cheers.

Another bizarre fix is to search "touch pad" on google or some other search engine. It magically fixes itself! Go on - try it!

  • I discovered this too!

  • Googling "synaptics touchpad not working youtube" lead me to this video.

I noticed that the scrolling was fixed after that too but I would've written it off if not for your comment. Thanks

    I don't have Vista but I'll try ctr+alt+del+esc.

  • Doesn't work in XP. I find that it usually 'repairs itself' and I can suddenly scroll again. Weirdness.

  • or either something that you do inadvertently
