i have a theory, it involves the over order from the original manufacturer and farming out excess of the original xbox360 which was say 3million , due to excess they farmed another 2million to an inferior company that used inferior hardware ie bad optic drives and inferior soldering these xboxes are generally, when u turn them on have a certain date of manufacture and are way more likely to go TITS UP , if the xbox freezes turn it off, wait 20-30 mins b4 turn it on, gives solder time to settle.
you shoulda held the "search accessory" button while pressing the power button 4 times, you get an accurate description of whats wrong , you get 4 codes depending on the lights of the console 1 light = 1, 2 lights = 2 and so on.
after you get the code you can go online and type in RROD *insert number of rings here* *enter the 4 digit code you found here*
it may be a problem you can fix yourself, i fixed a few RRODs like that.
even microsoft doesnt know much about this "hidden code"

You know when 3 lights are flashing AND the power light is flashing that means that that console had a power failure TRY pluging them in a diffent plug and check your power cords at the console , the box in the middle of the two cords (the transformer ) and the power outlet . Also you can DECODE the 3 red ring. I will have a video on that in a few days. the one flashing light your top console has is an on screen msg plug it into a t.v

I tried the 'x-clamp' fix but it didn't work for me. I still have the 3 red rings. That seems like a waste of 20 dollars. (USD) At first, I thought most of the problems were here in the US, but now I see that Microsoft is shitting on us all on a world wide scale without descrimination. PS3 is my next go. Online play is even free!

The 3-ring RROD is caused by overheating. To fix this, your best bet is to get some arctic silver thermal paste and a fresh set of x-clamps (easy to find on eBay).
The 1-Ring RROD is an e74. This is caused by either a bad power-supply or bad solder. Try swapping up the PS on that one, see if it's a short in the PS. If that's no good, then the 1-ring needs a reflow soldering.

You shouldn't complain, there is very good service, at least in Norway. I have sent my console in 3 times. The first time I got 12mounths goldmembership second time I got the same and the 3. time I got 6mouthes gold and a 12GB harddisk ;D This is Norway though...

um the factory warranty is 3 years man. atleast in north america. i sent my xbox to microsoft and got it back in 2 weeks and didn't cost a thing. that was 15 months ago and the thing's been working fine ever since.
