  • There are a lot of things wrong with this video. The mastic used was the wrong kind for the tile size. The trowel was also too small. He also forgot to apply thin-set under the cement backer board. The thin-set not only helps to level the low and high spots it also helps secure the backer board. This is a very important step and any tile professional will tell you to do this. You can also use a roofing nail gun and galvanized roofing nails to attache the cement board.

  • u idiot mastic is for wall tile 4x4 at the most i bet that floor has been tore up and redone a week after this video was made next time get thin set tile mortar genius dude really posted a video acting like a pro doin it with the wrong shit

  • I would never use a pre-mixed adhesive you just cant beat the powdered cement based tile adhesive for bond strength, and he should of used a trowel with deeper notches to give a better bed onto the adhesive.

  • If only there were more Geoffs on the planet- well done Geoff

  • If you like the tiles and everything that surrounds their placement, visit the best Blog on tiling the world:

  • I mastrebate on a regular basis..........but not while tiling

  • i didnt know using a level was wrong for looking for crowns... becasue of lowes i now know to visually figure it out... thank you lowes

  • lowes is fucking stupid!!! i hope jeff klamet is unemployed! maybe we should start using mastic on our shower floors and premixed grout on them too! hey!!! why should we mix anything!?

  • i would suggest never putting the cut tiles on the wall. i'd put them on the other edges.... cause that wall is perfectly straight and unless your cut is too its gonna show up

  • @flyershockey17 The video suggested a 1/4 inch gap between cut tile edges and the wall. That gap will be covered by the wood trim, hiding any irregularities in the cut. By the way, what method of measuring and cutting do you use, that you can't make a straight line? Do you trim your tiles with a hammer? LOL

  • thanks for posting... it was quite helpful...

  • I'm a carpenter myself and wouldn't know shit about a *professional quality* tiled surface. Leave it to the experienced I say.

  • lol at the 'Lowes calculator' xD

  • This guy sounds like Mike Roe!

  • Using a carpenter to install your tile is like getting an electrician to do your plumbing.

  • when i install the tiles, i wear jeans and belt, too ;))) it's much easier..

  • This video is WACK....You allways lay tile in MORTER...this guy is a dumbasssss

  • 3:30 lol! In a small room reference lines are not needed! Alway layout the room. I make sure 20 foot bathrooms are square and lay them out with chalk lines. Framers are never square. Also, install the whole sub floor first. Mastic=bad. 6:52 he grouts like my daughter.

  • I agree with siberianfeline...NEVER USE MASTIC ON A FLOOR !! And sealing is done about 3 days later, NOT 3 weeks ! In addition, mortar should be spread prior to screwing or nailing ( galvanized roofing nails ) the cement board. Personally I don't see the point of the tape at the seams, it'll be filled with mortar ANYWAY. The transition ( metal ) strip should have 4-5 screws or nails in it, otherwise it may "float" with a curved floor. And finally, rent a wet saw ! A tile cutter is so archaic !

  • Some ceramic tiles can cut shitty even using a decent tile cutter. This will throw you off with the estimate.

  • Not agree.

Installing tiles, I remove everything from the floor until concrete. But you using here dry panel over the boards, which may make wood squeak after some years later.

  • why the fuck are they telling you to use mastic on a floor. this video is bullshit, mix your own thinset way stronger for the floor

  • is it just me or do tiles next to floating floor look bad??

  • I am sure that adhesive is not safe to breath!

  • Never do the x method, you will more than likely get out of square.also never use premix grout, the cost is 5 times.(and cemment has it's own dry time.

  • That is the stupidest thing. Premix thin set or mastic is not a floor grade material. Also waiting 3 weeks to seal the tiles. Some of my customers are watching those stupid videos and saying, no you have to wait 3 weeks before you can seal it. By the time 3 weeks passes by, their grout is already dirty. Also customers buy Mastic for the floors. Just because Lowes wants to sell the $35 3.5 gallon bucket??

  • @siberianfeline Ask them if they learned that on youtube

  • Use spacers, LOL!!!

A lot of the cheeper tile is not square. Using spacers will make your tile snake, follow the chalk line, that line is strait.

For curved cuts, use an angle grinder and a diamond tile blade. If you are good enough, you can cut a circle in the center of the tile for plumbing.

  • THis is BS. Always know your tile. Some ceramic tiles can cut shitty even using a decent tile cutter. This will throw you off with the estimate. You may want to sample it , and also ask your supplier if they guarantee a consistent batch number and quantity. You might realize too late that you need more and the supplier runs out of the batch needed. This will ensure color consistency. And about sealers, not all are the same. Be very careful with the product especially with natural stones.

  • Geeezz Lows Way to Drop the BALL! I cant believe they put their name on this and didn't even try to upsell us by using a Thinset mortar under the board! Thats crazy!

I've been installing for 10 years and backer board manufactures will not warranty their product unless you thinset and screw it down! If you read the directoins and fine print its always there!

Total FAIL for you slows. lol

  • it´s not that easy folks.jeff is a robot.

  • yeah you forgot the thinset under the backerboard, its not for bond, but get rid of voids underneath the backer board and to make sure it is wholly supported.

  • lol this is bs. if you want to do it right it takes time to do. just like anything. of course you have to check to see if the floors level, you might have to mudbed it, it is more complicated. it's more of an art form.

  • It is very handy video for tile fixers and as well as engineers. thanks for uploading

  • Tiling is easy. My first job was in my laundry room. then I did my kitchen and bathroom.

  • The Lowe's Do it Yourself animated logo is pretty cool.

  • what is the difference between a mud set or a thin set-besides price and how would you decide which to use?

  • @japatton07 If you use mud the floor will be perfectly flat & level ,but you still need to use thin-set mortar to glue it.

If you have a plywood floor that its already level & flat all you need its black filt paper, metal mesh ,roofing nails ,then thin-set mortar ,also you can oil base prime the plywood then install the tile right to it.

About price the mud its cheaper but you need extra skills to make it perfectly flat & level, after that it will be easier to install the ceramic or porcelain.

  • Ovaj si nema veze sa keramiku...

  • Tayvee

  • That Intro was HOT!.. who made that?

  • Mike Kraft, huh? Such an oddly fitting name for a craftsperson.

I wonder if he likes macaroni.

  • thanks for creating!

  • Good ideas for future projects

  • I didnt even want to tile my floor, then i ended up doing so because of this video!!! sweet~!!!!!!

  • @rsk2006 was it hard, because I am thinking of starting it.. hehehe
