  • YOG SOTHOTH

  • the author of who goes there was inspired by the stories of h.p. lovecraft so that would mean john carpenter was inspired by h.p. lovecraft too.

  • This & Dawn of the Dead = Awesomest movies ever!

  • i love this movie, i was lucky enough to catch it on sci fi last night and now its on my recorder yay :)

  • thank's for upload : )

  • Kurt Russel is perfect for this movie, if this movie was made in the 90's it would probably be Arnold Schwarzenegger in the main role. He'd kick that aliens ass with one hand while doing a 100 pushups with the other bwhahah.

  • scariest movie I've ever seen! They just don't make good horrors like this anymore. It's all realistic gore and torture. Garbage

  • My favorite movie ever!!! There are a lot of little mistakes here and there though. The thing at the blood experiment kind of just walked right through a flimsy, wooden wall. Why was that arctic base wall made of wood, let alone that flimsy?!? Also when Blair made the UFO. That was stupid because he practically only has metal piped and snow to work with. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!

  • we ve had enough of all this "creepy" sound and special effects in EVERY fucking scene of 00's thrillers....

  • No crap cgi remake/sequel PLEASE!

  • they should make a remake or part of this, with today's cg it would give everyone nightmares

  • That was scary as shit when the thing tentacle raped the other dogs and now thanks to this movie, I now have a flamethrower under my bed matress

  • lolz "FUCK U TOO!" xD lolz then the alien looks down and is all like "WHAT THE FUCK!?!?"

  • just rewatched it

what really stood out was the special effects. still as amazing today as they were back then

better than any of the obviously fake CGI stuff that kids get today

  • Awesome special effects. it takes alot to creep me out but these make my skin crawl. kudos to old school hollywood moviemaking!!!

  • Yeah I agree, this is the most scary horror-film I have ever seen, & like you it takes a lot to scare me!!!

  • "Yeah, FUCK YOU TOO!"- great comeback.

  • haha in that movie leviathan it tries to be like that he throws a grenade at the monster and he says say ahhhh mother fucker haha that made me think of the end of this movie so much

  • It was probably inspired by this most likely!!!

  • One of the greatest movie endings ever... up there with The Silence of the Lambs' ending.

  • lol at the subtitles

    [shrieks]

    [coughing]

pretty fucking useful when you're deaf xD

  • That man-thing they find in the snow is pretty damn scary. And when later in the movie (after everyone assumes its dead) it MOVES! Put a chill up my spine that lasted a week.

  • The music always creeps me the hell out...

  • its nice scenes thanks 4 uploading i cnt find the vid anywhere 2 watch the full movie sux i dnt even think i cn find it in stores

  • best line ever "yeah fuck u too" that was awesome! xD

  • * The amount of visible bloody flesh in this movie is bananas... John Carp is lucky this is rated R and not X.

    * However, Best story line in the history of science fiction...lol I love this movie.

    * NO PART 2??? WTF!!!

  • john carpenter=genius.

  • That dog is the best actor i have ever seen!

  • Dogs name is Jed.

  • The Thing fared poorly at the box office. It was released in the United States on June 25, 1982 in 840 theaters and was issued a "R" rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (limiting attendees to 17 and older without a guardian).Carpenter and other writers have speculated that this was due to the release of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial two weeks earlier, with its more optimistic scenario of alien visitation

  • I just read that on wikipedia lol

  • LMAO yea true ahuehuhae

  • wow so the movie was called John Carpenter's "thing"...

  • To this day i haven't seen such a fucked up creature in a movie. great work

  • glad i never saw this movie, this definetely isnt another badly made horror/alien movie, damn scary shit

  • actually its rather good you have to watch it severals times and make up your own theory as too who is who or who is the alien.

its one of theose movies you can go back and watch over and over:)

  • XD one of my favorite lines "Yeah fuck you too" *throws stick of dynamite*

  • Hell yeah, I love that bit too :)

  • The effects of this movie then were top of the line back in the day and they still have me impressed even today.

  • more believable than CGI in my opinion

  • This is true.

  • and its also correct

  • hell yeah! i'm so sick of cheesy CGI crap pratical effects are so much better.

  • actually that was a different john carpenter, not the film director.

  • Matte painting of TheThing's spaceship by the late great Albert Whitlock. How's that for useless nerdy info =).

  • Nothing wrong with that kind of nerdy info.

Whitlock was a genius in a now sadly declined art

  • lol thing

  • i remember watching this movie when i was eight...i just remembered it today and decided to see if it still had the same effect it had on a young boy...well, it does.

  • same here....creepy

  • windows was kinda of a douche when he was staring at it if it were me I'd blast it, no looking

  • seriously though, if you were in Windows situation, how would you know you would see such a fucked up ...."Thing" on front of you......I'd probably faint on the spot.

  • pretty nasty stuff, when they're testing blood is a good scene... lol at the guys sittin beside the thing

  • This is hands-down one of the best horror movies ever made. To this very day the special effects are impressive, and still draw the same effect.

It is regrettable that this movie, like so many other films by John Carpenter, never did well at the box office. He is pure genius.

  • If any of you have the DVD and haven't checked out the commentary track, you should. It's the spookiest movie ever but apparently they had a blast making it. Kurt and some of the other guys tell some great stories about shooting this one.

    10 thumbs up!

  • Gah found a screw up pause at 6:09 When Windows is being attacked and Palmer is wearing a vest at first then it's a green short sleeve shirt then a vest again WTF lol, love this movie saw it when I was 11 and I never wanted to go near a husky alone for a long ass time.

  • Is this the movie where there is the scene of a person's severed head, grows 8 spider like feet, then walk away?

  • oh yes, it is... i think i remember now. . . hmm nostalgia. one of the few movies which im actually traumatized of.

  • This movie deeply disturbed me as a child especially the part with the wolves.

This is classic horror I mean it was made in 1982 and it still has the ability to install horror and it has greater impact than most horror movies today.

  • 5:59 is my fav part

  • yes, just about the whole fuckin movie is a SCREAM, that part especially. they dont make em like this anymore, unfortunatly

  • Thanks for putting this up, I got this for Christmas and it's already one of my favourite films! Ennio Morricone's score is truly haunting and the various manifestations of the creature are genuinely frightening

  • "This is a movie that forces you to puke, then shoves your face in it, then makes you eat it it, then makes you throw it up again. It's repulsive!" - The Angry Video Game Nerd

  • gross.....scary ass movie

  • This is the best thriller/horror movie ever. When they said "The ultimate in alien terror" they weren't liaing ! I've watched it at least 50 times, and I will watch it again :) Got the HD version - If you like this movie you HAVE to see it in HD...

  • I first saw this movie about 5'ish years ago. Needless to say it's AWESOME! John Carpenter ftw.

I am glad I never saw this movie when I was a kid, it would have scared the crap out of me if I had watched it back then.

  • I watch it when I was 7, and it did traumatize me ... lol, I always hate desks since then, I always thought there'll be spider head lurking below.

  • KILL IT WITH FIRE!!

  • Best ending ever!

  • i've watching this movie 12 times already and never getting tired of watching it.

one of the best classic horror movie with some awsome effect and a creepy soundtrack.

    5/5

  • thank you tis my fave horror movie of all time, I especially like the end....see what happens

  • I want an Antarctic Sombrero, like the one kurt wears in this.

  • It didn't infect the one black dude because it mistook him for Samuel L. Jackson, and was afraid that it would go on to make an endless list of shitty movies in which it would be forced to play the same part over and over again.

  • The Poor alien was innocent. It was only defending itself in order to get off the Earth.

  • yeah but the poor aliens chops down poor innocent dogs and mutilates humans.

  • Hey, if you were stranded on a horrible planet where everyone wanted you either with a probe up your ass or a bullet in your brain, and had to defend yourself, wouldn't you take extreme measures? I mean, think about it.

  • For me just the scene of the space craft coming is really creepy, because it combines high inttelligence with such a horrifying prescence--this movie has many such well thought out nuances. A real classic of horror/survival genre.

  • Who's screaming when the blood moves?

  • the blood :D

  • Hahaha no not when it squeaks, but when it moves towards them!

  • Fuckin A ...

    Awesome movie ...

  • I often wondered waht a Thing II would be like. Can you imagine if this life form ever reached a major city?

But someone would screw it up. There's too many dreadful movies these days, and I'm sure it would not live up to the original.

I hope they leave this movie alone. It is a classic, one of the best of all times. A very under-appreciated movie.

  • Are animatronics really dead..?

If they are, they couldn't have got a better swansong than this film... This film REIGNS.

  • "ROOOOAAAOOOOAAARRRR"

    "Yeah, fuck you too!" Awesome!

  • Best horror movie ever. Great upload. Thanks for sharing.

  • this is a GREAT film gave me night terrors though lol

  • love this movie

  • i hated the part where they had to do the blood test

  • i love when palmer fucks windows up

  • Couldn't the video maker done without the stupid subtitles?

  • Cinematic brilliance, this movie was. It absolutely scared the living shit out of me.

  • This is one of the best horror movies of all time. Such great suspense, and the FX for the time were totally excellent. There's too many good parts that its best to keep people in the dark about cool scenes...

  • is like dead space

  • The "thing" is an alien life form that infects other life forms such as humans and dogs. The alien life form attempts to imitate the infected host through a series of grotesque mutations which drastically alters the appearance of the infected host. During the process the alien life form gets pissed off and tries to kill everything around it. Well, anyway, it's a great movie with a great plot and characters. It's right up there with The Godfather and Casino.

  • so wait it infects and transforms?

  • Yeah, worse than Zombies huh?

  • the flamethrower wins again god bless germany lol

  • 2:12... Hillarious!

  • .....why?

  • that's horrible!

  • This is a movie I hope they never remake. It could never be done right and would ruin everything that this movie is.

  • Damn right! They'd fuck it all up with computer effects.

  • Yeah. But someone was trying to remake it. Someone bad, like PWS Anderson.

  • Still gives me nightmares years after I first watched it. @_@

  • still holds up....so much better than computer-generated-imagery.

the minimal soundtrack is eerily effective.

  • I also agree my all time fav.

  • the best horror for me of all movies

  • Got to agree bruv!

  • This is a pretty awesome movie. I wouldn't say that it's really frightening, exactly, but it's a blast to watch.

  • we found this.

    jesus christ.

no i think its a monster

  • The only thing i dont like about this movie is the dogs getting killed, makes me sad.

  • Of all the movies I've seen, Hostel (for gross) the ring (for surrealism) and silence of the lambs (for psychological thrills) this movie is bar none the grossest, the most eerily bizarre, and real human character based movie EVER! When I saw it the first time it made me shit so many bricks I was able to build a brick shit-house to use the second time I watched it! It left me with a sense of paranoia and underlying terror that over shadows all other horror movies! A great film!

  • i agree it has the most bizarre death scenes ive ever seen. Namely the guys head eating the other guys hard when the blood test shows whos an alien. The movie gets funny after u see it a few times.

  • The best film i've ever seen,

The movie ive seen many times

  • I saw this movie when I was 13. I am 21 now and still dont have the nerve to see it again. It was ahead of its time...and a little too much for me. This movie makes Resident Evil the game look like Teletubies.

  • Are you kidding me? Teletubies are FUCKING CREEPY GROSS O_o

  • alot of things today make resident evil 1 seem like teletubies , heck at least in teletubies the acting is decent.

  • True, so true. Resident Evil was ruined completely as a movie from the start. They need to drop the story and start from scratch. (Note to Milla Jovovich) Sorry Milla, you actually have no purpose in the story....great actress, but the movies should have nothing to do about you. Resident Evil directors and actors need to take notes from this movie ^ The Thing....

  • The movie is crazy!

  • yeah i just watched it and i thought it was a remake version - the effects really arent that bad. Doesnt need to be remade

  • i'm that big on sci fi movies but obvious newest alien vs predator stole its idea from this 1 since its in antartica... i just saw finished watching it for the 1st & thought it was pretty decent; it could of been a little more subtle on the alien asexual mutation but whatever... i thought it was good for how cast used tools, guns, flares, & even flame throwers... pretty resourceful. haha...

  • WOW!!! This movie was so great and the special effects from this movie seem too incredible to be from 1982!

  • One of the best movies ever made....PERIOD! Saw this at the drive in and it scared the shit sticks out of me!

  • This movie doesn't need a remake. It's perfectly fine the way it is. It just needs to be re-released to theatres. People today could appreciate this movie and it's gore.

If only E.T. didn't steal the attention. Little faggot alien. Fuck you E.T. I hope The Thing assimilates your ass.

  • My thoughts exactly! I always wanted to hit that annoying little thing!

  • lol thats what my dad said,he said this movie would have gotten more attention if E.T. didnt come out

  • Yeah, you're right about that. People flocked to E.T. because of its more positive view about aliens. I wish this movie was noticed more. It is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen,

  • great film

  • applause to special effects for good movies like this back then. Now its all computer animated crap

  • This movie is great. Watched it for the first time yesterday. The blood test was one of the coolest parts in a Horror movie I've ever seen.

  • it's time for not having hollywood touch this film nowadays.

  • ive never seen it

ive only seen the video game

  • This movie is so GREAT, but only in UNCUT!

  • i saw the movie a couple of days ago at tv..they cut every good part of the movie..god dammit that was frustrating !!!

  • Yes, i saw this movie too before 3 days on KABEL 1, it was the second or third time i saw it on TV and i thought they bring it UNCUT, but it was so damn CUT like every time in Germany, they cut whole scenes, in think more than 6-7 minutes were DELETED(or more?)! So many people here thinking that movie isn't so great, but it is! It's a crime bringing such an epic movie so sliced, but hey, it's GERMANY, every second movie/game is cut here.

  • i agree..big f idiots germans...they edit everything ..like they have 3 balls instead of 2 and i live here too..well work actually..watching tv here is really annoying!!

  • hey, i hope you don't call every german an idiot, only the suckers, who cut movies.

  • tv producers i mean..

  • ...cause they compare fiction with the reality. i mean the old guys think its real :o

  • Hahaha, yes, i am sure they pissed theirself after they see the uncut version :)

  • It is the best monster movie of all times.

  • Best monster movie ever!

  • this movie is leaved me scaerd shitless

  • they need to foucs or making better puppets or special effects, I'm tired of CG its so cheap

  • this movie is old yes and today it is bad compared to the new movies but I still think this movie was great I would really love a new version of this or a "number 2" (realising that this idea has a 99% chanse that it will suck so hard compared to the original) but still I really love this movie so much and a good "new version" of it would be awsome

  • naw, dont beat it doen that bad . Think of this, every camnera angle int hat movie was thought out and planned for affect and character placement blahblah to a degree many movies still cheap out on........GET TO IT WINDOWS!!!

  • most fucked up movie i have ever seen

  • This "Thing" is the ULTIMATE killing machine. Cannot be stopped and can turn into any"thing"

  • LULZ! You gotta love those subtitles.

    -{Thing Roaring}

    -{Flamethrower Blasting}

    -{Thing Roaring}

  • you 4got windows screaming

  • I know lol

    -(misfiring)

    -(misfiring continues)

  • This movie along with Aliens, The Fly, Terminator, Hellraiser 1 and 2, are the ol classics.

  • this got to be the best alien movie out there

  • out of all the monsters and aliens in the galaxy why do they have to raid on earth. Seriously there's am entire galaxy but they rather come to earth XD

  • Because humans are so naive :D Well in the movies they are ;D

  • Fantastic Special effects. It is definitely underrated as a horror film

  • I hope John doesn't remake this. It's perfect the way it is. Great special F/X, great acting, beautifully filmed and that bad-ass ending. What's to remake?

  • One of the most well made and scarriest movies. I can't imagine how people saw this in the movie theatre.

  • dats one of da most missed upp monsters ive ever seen

  • BEST OLD MOVIE EVER MADE

  • Dude I saw a part of this movie when I was 8 and now that I have the courage to see it all I can't find it anymore... sucks...(or not :>)

  • zajebisty film!!

  • That Dog Thing Screech still Scares the Fuck out of me!

  • This movie was the best horror movie I ever watched

  • Can I just say the Huskies are beautiful in this film and i cried my self silly wen they got killed lol...i was young at the time and it scared the SHIT out of me...my dad just found it funny lol...looking at it now I see wot he meanz...but still very gruesome lol

  • Haha, Wilford Brimley (Blair) is the Liberty Medical guy.

  • Diabetes!!!

  • DIABEETUS!

Call Liberty! They can help you live a better life!

  • My god, this space alien had, DIABEETUS!
