Thanks Dean!!! I am not much of an organist. I did practice hard to try and get plausible for amateur listeners. The organ was for the Archie Bray Foundations 50th Anniversary celebration. I am doing one(a different perfromance, no organ, no flames) this year for their 60th. June 25 Helena Montana. Be there or miss it.
One of the wildest, wackiest things I've ever seen in organdom. As an organist, I've always known that a lot of us are full of hot air, but...well...words fail me (and that doesn't happen often!).
The constant erosion of video and audio quality is really depressing me: can we get a GOOD video where people aren't TALKING right next to the camera?
No. Unless of course you build one or hire me. Since I have sold the organ it would be quite expensive. The organ was built for live performances. The video is, was and will be, a secondary item.
@jericsynergy It's because people are rude and can't STFU when they attend a music performance. I've been to but one large concert where people were there to see the band play, and not to be seen.
Well if the propane is burned to produce the note (as it usually done in a fire organ) then it would actually be CO2 coming out the end of the pipe, this is probably accounted for during the initial tuning of the instrument.
some people are complaining about the clicks, but i like them! it gives it some real nice rhythm, and the fire really helps visualize the mechanics of pipe organs. it is very easy to forget that each note is the result of a lot of painstaking work by the people who build organs and the people who tune them. great job, i can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Thanks. Those are the gas solenoids. They are just another stop on the organ. I am having a show north of Houston (Texas USA) at U Houston Clearlake in the early spring if you live down this way.
12 volt gas solenoid valves. Not designed to be quiet. I suppose I could have foamed them or something, they still would have been audible. I thought about using organ valves. Seemed hazardous. I just finished taking apart the flame thrower. The organ is no more, and the flame thwoer just a series of parts. I have other plans. Louis, SoHoTX
oh man, I really like at 7:45 where first you imitate the train whistle, and then go into "Maple Leaf Rag", fantastic!... and then of course they yell "Free Bird"...
Wow, Thanks. The whole ting was lots of fun. So much work though. After every venue it needed work. The pipes are just not made for moving much. I am thinking about learning some Zez Confrey. I hope I can get my fingers fast enough.
It had one. I am really not an organist, just fake it. Still have the flame thrower but the organ is sold. Check out, Not Intended for Fucntional Use to see what I have been up to the last three years.
Thats really awesome, but you chopped up the song! It would've been more awesome with better sound and picture quality; I guess I'm just saying I wish I there! I can't imagine spending all day and night putting such a thing together...
I thoroughly enjoy watching this video - it's a real show stopper!! It would be a riot to do this with the organ I play at my church!! Thanks for the video.

Good one . I wonder how much flame a 32ft Contra Bombarde would raise?
keyboardman2009 3 years ago
The Organ is behind the gas jets. Its air making the sounds. It is a seven rank organ. The flames are the 8th rank.
And Yes propane would change the pitch.
See my show this March at Kingwood College Houston TexasUSA

Wouldn't the density of the propane make the notes off picth? Or are they off pitch I am just too stupid to tell the difference?

do u need fuel for this to work?
suchda 3 years ago
Propane, 100 pound tank, It uses about 1/3 the tank in 1/2 hour.
RoadEasyGentleman 3 years ago
hmmm, expensive, and pollutes the air. no offence truly
suchda 3 years ago
100 pounds about 19 gallons total . I use 6.3 gallons of that.
200 people watch. 6.3galx3.783=23 liters
.115 liter / person for a lifetime experience. Per person the fuel is cheap. But the whole thing was VERY expensive.

The organ is retired. New projects, videos, etc. Tired of tuning the organ. Its hard to tune outside. Changes pitch with the temperature and wind.

I think the valves open and spits oil out to the smaller flames.
singaporemusicvid 4 years ago
Yes. The organ works by valvels opening and letting air through the pipes. The flames work by opening valves and letting propane out.
