@imthegingerbreadboy Okay, you can argue that, but we shouldn't we try to change it? This is 2011, we've advanced so far in technology to make everything more convenient so we can all continue to be lazy...why can't we apply that technology toward improving the way we power our country?
There's no such thing as a perfect society, every possible system has already been attempted somewhere at some time and found far more lacking than what we already have, which is why people from all over the world have flocked here for centuries.
When politicians refuse to act on climate change and dodge the issue, what they're really saying is: "Stuff you and your children and the next 100 generations. Stuff the biota of this planet. Just vote for me because I offer you some stupid job for a couple of years so we can all sleepwalk together into a total planetary catastrophe.".
How should they act on climate change? Obviously we make a small contribution to it which has been greatly exaggerated for the sake of parting people from their money as usual, but the climate has never been stable for very long so our civilization is still going to have to adapt to far greater shifts which are natural and cannot be prevented.
No Jenkem, we make a very considerable contribution to climate change because it is our actions which has tipped the balance. The rate and degree of change is greater than any fluctuations we have dealt with before.
We should be moving the workforce to construction of renewable plants which capture energy from the sun, waves, wind or geothermal sources and phasing out coal. Then we can work on alternative power sources for our vehicles. We could also work on thermal efficiency. That's a start.
I disagree on the extent of both our contribution and the fluctuation compared to history, but I'm all for a shift to renewable energy for plenty of other reasons. What bothers me is that it seems the government is more interested in taking advantage of the hysteria in order to rob people blind than actually doing anything constructive about what many believe is a problem, or what others feel should be done to protect the environment from real issues, and because we'll have to eventually anyway.
It is going to have to be a gradual shift though until new technologies are perfected, otherwise it's not going to be feasible. It's easy to favor alternative energy until one actually has to look at windmills and solar panels everywhere and/or cannot afford electricity. They could have at least made a decent start with all that money they've been tossing into a black hole recently.
no no, havent you heard? obama's bringing you clean coal! see? no need to worry. hey maybe someone can find out why we have a ginormous reserve of sweet crude under north dakota that nobodys drilling?
Thank God these people have the Strength and bravery to speak up. The time for change is over due.

I feel sorry for the young people who are supporting this.
They don't know that they are being exploited by affluent, hypocritical radicals.

Hey JENJEMJUNKIE, people have "flocked" here because of the portrayal of the reality of social mobility.
And just because something is okay, it doesn't mean you shouldn't have something better.
And no, every possible system has not been attempted (where the fuck did you get that idea?!).

It bothered me that too many people held "End The War", "Peace" or "Stop Global Warming" signs while chanting Obama's political slogans.
Obama is PUSHING "clean" coal and nuclear power while sending dozens upon dozens of thousands of troops back INTO the middle east as cannon fodder.
Obama doesn't stand for change, WE STAND FOR CHANGE.
Peace, equality, love, life and liberation.. <3

Climate change makes the threat of Nazi Germany in the 1930's look like a joke. Why aren't our so-called leaders willing to lead on this?
How do they think this problem is going to go away without massive and immediate action?
