During the Lincoln-Douglas debates for the Presidency in 1858, Stephen Douglas said that the U.S. would become the "terror of the world". It is not what individual Americans are or what they want. Its about certain groups of people marginalized to benifit a few, and the groups advantaged by virtue of those opressed.
