NO! No. The worst thing you could possibly do with this movie is to make it about Shepard. No matter what you do with the character it will piss people off and bring in canonical issues (choice as well as gender). Besides, its not like you could get the voice actors to do it. The Mass Effect universe (books, comics, back story) is why this concept actually has potential. I like TheClark's fist contact idea, or maybe adapt a book for the players who haven't read it, but Shepard would screw it up.
I really want this movie to happen! I am new for Mass Effect and actually just completed Mass Effect 1 and 2 in this week for the first time! They were amazing games. Actually I am still playing Mass Effect 2 since I did not do all the side missions. It is so awesome that you can continue playing the game even though you have completed the main plot! They are concentrating on the first game? Interesting, because Id read a rumour a few months ago that the film might be a prequel, focusing on the Human/Turian first contact war. That would have been perfect in my mind because a) existing fans see something new b) non-fans get a gentle entry point to the series (instead of hey heres 16 aliens races and all this technology and 2 hours to explain it rather than 20 hours) and most importantly c)would avoid 99% of fans hating the casting for Shepard

they should have Elcor as a multiplayer character you can pick, Since he's slow but strong he could have some type of heavy bodyarmor/exoskeleton suit to protect him n make him more maneuverable, with a Big weapon mounted on his back, the weapon would b run by an Ai/Vi system so it can fire by itself, N maybe a couple of robots with weapons by his side to protect him N help him out. He'll b kinda like a walkin tank. But he'll hav control of the Weapon mounted on his back, The robots could b Ai.

@maqichuaerilus I think would prefer if they casted a femshep too, but maybe that's just because I've always played her, simply because Mark Meer's voice-acting is so dull. I've seen youtube videos where they replaced the male shepard model with Legions, still using Mark's voice of course, and you're just thinking: "Hmm.. maybe he IS a robot!" If they do go with a male shep however, I seriously hope they can find an actor with more passion.

They can make anything else; a show series, more comics, more novels, games after Mass Effect 3; just not a Mass Effect movie. But if they must make a movie, it should be about an important event outside of Shepards story and/or be animated. Mass effect games are my favorite video games ever, however, I can't imagine the movie being all that great. The story line for the games is too long and I don't know how well it could be adapted into a 3 hour movie. It has potential, but like most video game based movies it probably won't pan out. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. Who knows, maybe if it does pan out, that could be the thing we needed to jump start that Halo movie, now THAT could be good.
As a fan, I would love to see Seth Green as Joker. I mean he doesn't need that much of a make over to look like him anyway. Plus it wouldn't be as heart warming to hear Joker's sarcasm if it isn't voiced by Seth Green.

They would be much better off making the movie be about someone other then Sheperd, make cameos, say, news reports and the like about Commander Sheperd, but never show him.
Theres a bunch of questions that need to be answered before they make that movie: what storyline do they base the movie on, one from the story from the games, the one from the mass effect books, or do they make a whole new adventure starring Shepard? Do they make make Shepard female or male? do they make female/male shepard paragon, renegade or neutral? do they make him have a romance and with whom? what class do they make shepard?
And just cause a male voice actor failed to to him justice does not mean an actual actor with talent can't do it. Tahmoh Penikett I think he would be the perfect candidate for the role of male Shepard.
I will be blunt. The movie will suck cause in the end they will have to cut so much story that 1 and 2 has told that it will feel less cohesive and will feel rushed. I think for the best and most satisfying way for this tale to be told is if it's made as a TV series. Come one people you know it's true we all know they will cut out Lair of the shadow broker and Overlord which were pretty epic stories. And have people vote when it's time to kill kaiden or ashley and i vote ashley.

I think they should not make a movie about Shepard. IMO it would be more interesting to do a movie with an complete new story taking place in Mass Effect background without Shepard and without the reapers. Characters like Shepard, Liara, Jack, Wrex and others could make a cameo but that's all. Mass Effect's great background should be used to create originals stories not just an adaptation of the games that might be disapointing.
i think they should make a series of the main characters, all 30-60 mins long, one for shephard, one for miranda, one for mordin, one for garrus, one for grunt (or his makers) one for samara, and so on for the other characters

It would be very confusing for people who played the games. It's best to keep Shepard's appearance and service history ambiguous for the gamers sake.

@maqichuaerilus dont get offended by em, they have a point... Its just that we are used to seeing the male Shepard all the time, and adding a female would be weird and uncommon thats all. The male has a more iconic approach, cuz he's been on every box cover and trailer, while the female hasnt been shown much commercially. I personally prefer if they add a male. But if they truly make it based from the actual game it will suck, it should be a prequel instead during First Contact

Actually one part of me can't wait & dying to see a MASS EFFECT movie and the other part is saying that this is gonna be a really BIG mistake... Because MASS EFFECT story & universe is unique to each one of us and it's impossible to recreate something we have in our minds and please us all at the same time... :-(

@maqichuaerilus I think would prefer if they casted a femshep too, but maybe that's just because I've always played her, simply because Mark Meer's voice-acting is so dull. I've seen youtube videos where they replaced the male shepard model with Legions, still using Mark's voice of course, and you're just thinking: "Hmm.. maybe he IS a robot!" If they do go with a male shep however, I seriously hope they can find an actor with more passion.

They can make anything else; a show series, more comics, more novels, games after Mass Effect 3; just not a Mass Effect movie. But if they must make a movie, it should be about an important event outside of Shepards story and/or be animated. (If that happened though only fans who played the game will understand it so they wont do it for money reasons -_-) And if it all goes wrong and it is about Shepard it will be Male-Shep, because around 80% of players play Male-Shep (Me not included).

Honestly, they shouldn't do Shepard in the movie, I know it sounds crazy but, everyone has their own Shepard, hell you can pick the character's gender, you'd just piss people off if you cast anyone as Shepard. Do a movie from another character's point of view, maybe do a movie during the first contact war, or the discovery of prothean technology on Mars, anything other than Shepard, I have the games for Shepard.

Mass effect games are my favorite video games ever, however, I can't imagine the movie being all that great. The story line for the games is too long and I don't know how well it could be adapted into a 3 hour movie. It has potential, but like most video game based movies it probably won't pan out. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. Who knows, maybe if it does pan out, that could be the thing we needed to jump start that Halo movie, now THAT could be good.

What made Mass Effect great for me were the choices.
Tech shown on places like the Gadget Show allow for theatre wide audience participation for watching a movie or even playing a game on the big screen.
Why not make a film where a key points the audience can choose a divergent path - que a theatre fight between paragons and renegades!
A film maker could do so much with choice and what better series than Mass Effect to try it. Or is Cinema by it's nature stagnent and choice free?

Theres a bunch of questions that need to be answered before they make that movie: what storyline do they base the movie on, one from the story from the games, the one from the mass effect books, or do they make a whole new adventure starring Shepard? Do they make make Shepard female or male? do they make female/male shepard paragon, renegade or neutral? do they make him have a romance and with whom? what class do they make shepard?

I will be blunt. The movie will suck cause in the end they will have to cut so much story that 1 and 2 has told that it will feel less cohesive and will feel rushed. I think for the best and most satisfying way for this tale to be told is if it's made as a TV series. Come one people you know it's true we all know they will cut out Lair of the shadow broker and Overlord which were pretty epic stories. And have people vote when it's time to kill kaiden or ashley and i vote ashley.

I think they should not make a movie about Shepard. IMO it would be more interesting to do a movie with an complete new story taking place in Mass Effect background without Shepard and without the reapers. Characters like Shepard, Liara, Jack, Wrex and others could make a cameo but that's all. Mass Effect's great background should be used to create originals stories not just an adaptation of the games that might be disapointing.

The only problem is that people will want Shepard to be the same as in THEIR game. But we know he/she can't be the same for everyone in the sense of:
gender
background
decision making
and over all personality
The new Shepard will hardly be anything like Shepard at all, but I still think a Mass Effect movie could be REALLY cool, just hope it gets executed right.

A great idea for the story would be the beginning of Commander Shepard's career like when he joined the alliance and the threshler mawl! i would also love to see more about why he has N7 on him and were it originated and more explained to his past that they mentioned. @burnout21 Personally I don't think Shepard should be in the movie at all. I think the movie should follow the example of the novels and comics, make their own story in the Mass Effect universe and stay away from adapting Shepard into the movie because Shepard can either be a man or woman, paragon or renegade, or any race. It would be very confusing for people who played the games. It's best to keep Shepard's appearance and service history ambiguous for the gamers sake.
