I think you need to get your facts straight. Its the all weather floor mats causing the "problem" not the carpet ones in Tacomas. This whole thing is a Smear campaign from Obama Motors and the autoworkers union, that what I think.
@fj60driver obama has nothing to do with this...toyota is recalling cars in other country's..including japan ..the only smearing going on is toyota doing it all alone
FLASH -- Breaking -- Toyota recalls all Corollas sold since 2008 in BRAZIL - unintended acceleration complaints behind it all - looks like Brazil was going to order all Corolla sales to be halted.
Flash --- breaking -- Toyota recalling 600,000 Sienna mini vans - problem is - support for spare tire rusting away - tire and all falling to road - hazard There have been complaints.
Flash --State Farm asking for reimbursement from Toyota on some claims --other companies will follow - and you know price of insurance for a Toyota will go up.
We have a 2009 Camry. The problem is not the carpet. The throttle stuck today while accelerating from a parking lot. When it came time to slow for a stop light, the throttle maintained it's position, and the car didn't slow. Upon pushing down on the brake pedal, the throttle immediately popped up and the engine died. After coming to a complete stop, the engine was restarted and the throttle was no longer malfunctioning? Note: The cruise control had not yet been turned on.
Flash -- AP has internal memo - "we have to come clean." from an exec - but seems not about computer - but mechanical linkage - with the pedal - and this not too many months ago.
well people this is what u get when u drive by wire no actual phsycal connection between the gass peddal via a cable like on older vehicles and i don't like the lag of throttle that drive by wire systems have my previous 07 jetta was like that and i couls tap the throttle with no responce really
Flash -- Cosmic Rays now suspect with Toyota computer problems - Scientific group coming out with this -- AND - NASA getting involved to do investigation to try and see what is at fault with electronics.
FLASH - correctio - previous comment - was an earlier year Camry - not 06. Now it also seems that Toyota was asked in 07 to put a software fix for that computer they have - but they chose not to do it - now - just how much of a safety minded company is this. It wii cost them a fortune with all the lawsuits.
flash -- now it seems a Toyota internal document has surfaced - in which Toyota talks of computer problems and a surge i - i think -- 2006 Camry. There you have it.
Flash --- Word is that Toyota will fight the lawsuits all the way -- you can figure it out -- all this gives them time to reconfigure that entire computer - put a good "fail safe" system in car - the 2013 or the 2014 car will be a dandy -
Flash -- Toyota will give a new accelerator pedal to those unhappy with "feel" of the corrected pedal with the metal shiv. You have to ask for the replacement.

Flash -- Complaints keep coming in - from those who went thru that rug mat business - some of there stories seem plausible - but wyho knows actual numbers as against others may just be complaining - pretty obvious in all though - there is an electronic problem- period.
Flash - these class action lawsuits against toyota - i think it will drag on for some time - anyhow the "Attorney Toyota Action Committee." lead attorney charging "conspiracy to hide the truth."
Flash -- Los Angeles Times in Sunday edition saying that federal officials had asked Toyota to install brake override system in there cars - Times has an e mail - dated 2007 -- only now is Toyota installing the system on the assembly line - and not on all cars. I think Prius is one car they have put it in for 2 or 3 years.
Flash -- Prius driver out of control in San Diego - has many financial problems. The Prius cars have the "override" safety system - so why did it not work . A question.
Flash -- Today - upstate New York - Senator Schumer asks Toyota to cooperate in Prius accident investigation - this was accident a few days ago -- Toyota has refused to give access to that "black box" in car.
Flash -- Latest - do not have all details - but it seems Orange County in California has filed lawsuit against Toyota saying they knew all the problems - and signed contracts with unknowing - and not informed customers.
Flash -- As it looks - T%oyota gets word on the runaway Prius - were going to use there defense - the rug or mat biz -- but then driver said it was not the mat - so no need to try and claim that - and do a recall.
FLASH - Update - correction - Toyota announces at 3:15 PM - west coast time - they are not doing another Prius recall - this recall initially was something the Wall St. Journal had gotten hold of.
Flash -- Toyota wants to talk with driver of run a way Prius - they are sending 3 investigators to look over car -- NHTSA sending two investigators. Highway patrolman makes statement on camera of the incident - said brake pads all worn down. Driver shook up.
Flash -- AP reports that on Monday a 2008 Prius sped out of control on California freeway - highway patrol assisted in stopping it - i don' know how they could have assisted - anyhow car towed to dealer for study.
I have told many other people. I doubt it is the ECU. some of the tests trying to claim this were flawed. Someone from Stanford recently explained this. "Fundamentally you cannot rewire a circuit and expect it behave as it was originally designed"
Flash -- Monday Event from Torrance -- electronics mgr. of Toyota says: "There isn't a ghost issue out there." Toyota says Gilbert findings could not be recreated on actual road. Gilbert says his findings wewe " a startling discovery." Toyota says Gilbert shaved away insulation. Toyota says his findings creating unwarranted fear. Raj Rajkumar of Carnegie Mellon Univ. says "Gilbert has raised doubts about fail safe systems."
Flash -- Toyota enlisting aid of Stanford University in the Monday event. Chris Gerdes of Center For Automotive Research will be in their corner - so it seems.
Flash - The big event starts in a few hours at Toyota Torrance HQ. In one corner is Toyota - in other David Gilbert professor of automotive technology - who has found fault with that Toyota computer. Toyota wants to prove his findings should be recalled.
Flash -- Head man for Toyota in Europe, Tadashi Arishima says - "at this moment we don't believe the electronic throttle system is causing the problems." There you have it - "at this moment."
FLASH -- Toyota to hold a Computer Event on March 8 at Torrance , Ca. HQ -- purpose to refute claim made by David Gilbert - Southern Illinois professor in auto technology who found weakness in electronic throttle that he said is not on other manufacturers cars. Seems Toyota wants to duplicate his experiment - news media is invited.
Flash -- Rep. Henry Waxman asking Toyota to fess up in just which cars they are putting the "brake override" system in - i call it a safety device in video. Now in previous comment we can see the future problems on this - not put in as supposed - or put in improperly - i guess answer may be to run up engine while in neutral - hit the break to see that turns down engine - but not sure - leaving dealer though - it should be tested some way.
Flash -- Consumer Reports finally getting on the Toyota case. Reporting on customer who had the "repair" done on vehicle - and they were told that "brake override" software was installed - but a few days later - out of control acceleration. Now we have to suspect that perhaps the override software was not actually installed - or installed improperly. Car is a 2010 Camry.
Flash -- Toyota saying they are putting "brake over-ride software on certain recalled models - those models are Avalon, Camry and Matrix, Lexus IS and ES.
Flash -- AP running story on the EDR (black box) - and why Toyota does not make it readily available to investigators. As i recall though during the hearings Toyota was getting rid of this tactic of not letting anyone read info. Something said in hearings that they are going to supply hundreds of readers for the unit - nationwide.
Flash -- Comment on throwing car into neutral - problem seems that people panic - of course in close quarters - even that movement may not be fast enough.
Don't you know how to shift to neutral when a supposedly "sudden acceleration" occurs!? If one does not have any driving skills, hire a driver. That's what I think.
Flash -- BREAKING - never stops -- Toyota adding another 200,000 cars to the breaking engine oil hose problem - this brings numbers just for this to about 800,000 - still not saying it is a recall.
Flash -- Govt. regulators contacting those who complained of the acceleration problem after "repairs"- one claimed instance - 2010 Camry - accelerated as entering parking structure - this 5 days after "the fix."
Flash -- Los Angeles Times reporting drivers who have had that pedal biz etc. - repair complaining that they still have unintended acceleration. One driver was able to drive it into snowbank.
Flash -- Feds increase purported Toyota deaths to 52 from 34. Sen. Rockefeller of West Virginia - has been close to Toyoda family for decades - got Toyota to put plant in West Virginia - says : "corporate profits drove the companys decisions." and that NHTSA "would rather focus on floor mats than microchips because they understand floor mats," Rockefeller is pushing for "brake override" on all cars.
Flash -- Not a recall -- just a "service campaign" says Toyota - oil hose leak on V6 engine on late model Camry, Avalon, RAV4, Lexus 350 ES and RX. Bring it in for fixing - this is to be announced in few hours - also a new program - no interest for 5 years - new purchase - not sure which cars - also something about free service for 2 years.
just take your toyota to the dealer and they go through everything to make sure everything is working right. i made them do that for my 2010 tacoma even though there wasnt a recall for the 2010 models
Flash - fella in prison in MN. - killed a couple of people who were stopped at traffic light - he was doing 70 in a 96 Toyota Camry -slammed into them - said he was trying to stop car - no success - now there is pressure to reopen case - relatives of deceased after Toyota now.
Flash - Toyota to supply free loan car to all customers with recall - will pick up car at home. Concerning the brake override system - i did not hear anything definitive on when ALL cars being assembled will have it.
Flash - Hearings in Washington - all over internet - no one needs my interpretation --so will mention New York Times for Wednesday - long piece on mounting anger against Toyota in Japan - seems Toyota put big pressure on suppliers to lower costs to Toyota - big time - many suppliers can not cut any more - "Toyota just squeezes us." from a supplier.
Flash -- Los Angeles Times in article today - mentioning that New York State is asking for records on acceleration from Toyota. Seems that 80% of acceleration complaints say that floor mats and sticky accelerator is not a factor.
Flash -- Breaking -- AP has gotten internal documents that i guess were turned over to govt. investigation group --not overwhelming - but does give idea as to Toyota thinking - for instance they got a delay on stronger door latches - and mentioned the savings from that.
unintended acceleration, electric steering control loss ,total loss of braking, tacoma frames rustingn in half, suv's prone too tip over, I think Im never gonna buy a toyota lol
Flash -- It seems that in 2009 - Toyota went to electric steering for the Corolla - as reported in USA Today - the 09 and 10 models are ones with the steering problems.
Flash -- In Japan - Toyoda had press conference - to show they are on top of everything -say they have had ta few complaints of steering problems in Corolla autos - less than 100 - they are investigating - and also mentioning the brake override system which is going into all cars - but i do not think they have managed to put it into all cars currently being manufactured - by end of year certainly.
Flash -- "We are just seeing the tip of the iceberg" - "This has the potential of being much bigger" - Insurance Information Network of California. Reported in Los Angeles Times
Flash -- "carquestions" guy here on You Tube still on Toyota issue -- he took that accelerator pedal - and put a Canadian nickel where Toyota is putting that "shim" He heated up the pedal because Toyota is saying heat and moisture a factor - micro wave did not affect pedal - then put itin bucket of water for a couple of hours - still worked fine - his conclusion - is not the pedal - and readers here know that the Tacoma pedal is made in Japan - Toyota says that pedal OK.
Flash -- Toyota in letter to congress - signed by a big Washington law firm -- says they hired an outside source to check on their electronics -- and nothing is wrong.
Flash - Toyota will reduce from 0.46 second to 0.4 the skid delay braking system . As mentioned in writing some time back -- the override system is not yet put on at assembly line for all cars -- during the year it will be installed on others - by end of year all should have it. I call it a safety device in video.
Flash -- L.A. Times reporting today - Thursday that Toyota considering changes on that hold down button they have. Also former Toyota lawyer suing Toyota - alleging that it engaged in fraud - he has documents - Toyota says documents are confidential. This lawyer got millions in severence pay. Reported in L.A. Times.
Flash -- latest - as reported in Los Angeles Times today -- . Waxman saying he is getting contradictory statements from Toyota. Waxman saying they had told his staff that the causes are very hard to identify. My opinion - all of this will go on for some time.
Flash -PriusV- with advanced tech package - some comment by others that he may not be using his cruise control properly - this model has a radar - not let you get too close to car ahead - then car ahead moves aside - but he has hit control so many times - at this pt. his car charges out. Something like that - i am not up on radar cruise control - so can not really give opinion.
Flash --- Toyota hearings in Washington - delayed until 23rd -- about snowstorm. Govt. memo to lawmakers in advance of hearings says " growing body of evidence that neither Toyota nor NHTSA have identified all the causes of sudden acceleration."
FLASH - Breaking -- Official -- Toyota announces world wide recall for 2010 Prius -- they are saying about 40 mins. at dealer to correct brake situation.
Flash -- Kelly Blue Book drops values of Toyotas up to 3% -- lawyers for customers saying Toyota costs will be over 2 billion - major argument will be computer - not rugs etc. 2011 Prius will be a plug in hybrid.
Flash -- Sat. issue of L.A. Times - in article mentioning that Toyota "indicates" it will put the brake override system on cars involved in the floor mat recall . I call this the safety systemj in the video. I would not hold my breath waiting for this brake override - must be lot more involved than a piece of metal in acceleraror. And as i said in video - millions of cars. Meanwhile Safety Research company has study - rejects sticking pedal for unintend. accel. - says need override immed.
Flash -- Los Angeles Times article discussing Prius - in late December Toyota began sending letters to Prius owners offering to reimburse for some or all of costs of repair to the headlight system. There are lawsuits on this claiming a computer problem - Toyota was saying problem was owners were keeping lights on in daylite - burning out bulbs.
Flash -- As mentioned in Los Angeles Times , Friday edition . Prius auto all years -1,349 exterior lighting complaints - electrical system 306 complaints
Flash -- as mentioned in New York Times today --- the Prius has the "brake override" system - this system cuts engine power in case accelerator and brake pedal is applied at same time. No info if it is current Prius only - or previous models also.
Flash -- A managing officer says on Prius issue : "we want to be given a little time." Seems changes at assembly line were settings for software - they may figure at this pt. - that it is not enough.. On cars with that button -- Consumer Reports engineer says - that on Cadillac, Nissan and Infiniti - just press button quickly couple of times - but Toyota steady for 3 seconds to shut down engine.
Flash -- "Toyotas response came up short from perspective of its customers." says Transport Minister in Japan --- in response to company going all the way and calling a recall. --- There will be a recall - the company is leading themselves wide open on this - we should see recall very shortly.
Flash - breaking -- Akio Toyoda - CEO of Toyota will speak at news conference Friday evening - I guess he will make the formal announcement of 2010 Prius recall.
FLASH - update from Japan -- Toyota officials announce Friday they are considering recall of 2010 Prius - for admitted brake problems - and also studying another hybrid car. Official recall should be announced at any time.
Flash - Saga continuing --South Korea considering recalling all 2010 Prius - without waiting for Toyota to act. My opinion - they are telling Toyota and Japan Ministry - to get with it - start process - of course we are on countdown for recall by Ministry anyhow.
Flash - Saga continues - Colorado Law Firm - alleges that Toyota has known for several years about acceleration problems - that customers would not have purchased knowing info -- also they have questions about what may be called a "quiet fix" on assembly line for Prius brake situation - without telling those who bought vehicle.
Flash -- Article in New York Times -- 170 complaints on unintended acceleration received by NHTSA on Toyota Tacoma 2006-2010 - Toyota asked why Tacoma not in recall for pedal assembly - answer from Toyota -- assembly made by Denso in Japan not the US company.with sticky pedal. Of course this now leads to pedal assembly not causing unintended acceleration.
Flash -- concerning recall of Prius - company spokesman says "too early to call" - nothing of course is more certain - they will be recalled - the Japanese Ministry will decide when.
Flash -- Toyota says they have fixed brake situation on 2010 Prius as of January on the assembly line -- so now we have to wait - it will not be long - for official recall of 2010 models previously manufactured. Nikkei the Japanese news outfit is reporting decision has been made.
FLASH - late update -- Ohio lawsuit filed by attorney Stan Chesley who has done a number of high profile cases - including fire that killed 160. In suit he charges Yoyota with faudulent concealment, breach of warranties on leases and contracts - his clients not driving there car because of concerns. He going on to say that there is no proof latest solution will solve problem - says Ohio buyers and lease holders of Toyotas were defrauded - wants Toyota to make auto and lease payments .AP
Flash -- First cars getting the new Toyota "brake override" safety system - are the Camry, and Lexus ES 350 - starting this month - This system will shift the engine to idle if it detects driver is attempting to apply brakes without success. No retrofit planned for current in use cars - and Toyota unable to put it in other cars under production - until year progresses. Of course they may figure a way to speed it up.
Flash -- Merchant Law Group in Canada files against Yoyota in class action suit- charging that the pedal fix is, "a low tech solution to their high tech design flaw." -- Toyota saying they can do the pedal fix to 270,000 Canada cars within a month.
Flash - there was some confusionover an issued statement - it was misinterpreted - Transportation Dept. was not saying do not drive vehicles - just return it to dealer for corrections. Transportation Dept. - saying "we will keep Toyotas feet to the fire." Also Goldman Sachs coming out saying this will cost Toyota 1.3 billion thru March.
Flash -- NHTSA studying civil penalties for Toyota - Toyota saying they want to cooperate in all investigations. Toyota starts reselling some recalled cars - they have the "patch" in accelerator pedal. Only cars at factory getting complete new unit. How does the new unit differ from the "patch" fix?
Flash -- Transportation Dept. asking - or is it demanding - documents from Toyota that the computer on cars is not at fault causing the sudden acceleration. I think that Transportation Dept. in Japan has also joined the fray - demanding answers - but they should have been active on this a couple of years ago.
UPDATE - brakes on Prius - 2010 model may be included - Japanese Transportation Ministry involved. We may see a recall on brakes for Prius before this is finished .
FLASH - breaking - late update - from Japan -- Japanese govt. announces problems with brakes on Prius - so far 2010 model not included. I suspect that the govt. in Japan has just about had it with that crowd.
Flash -- i have questions - on this pedal assembly -- this company makes the device for just about all the Toyotas - but the rug or mat recall people - who have no recall on their pedal assembly - what is different about there pedal assembly?
Flash - latest - Transportation Secretary Roy LaHood says that it had taken "an enormous effort to get Toyota to recall vehicles in the U.S. - he told AP that Toyota was " a little safety deaf." - and Wozniak says his car can go to 90 mph when problem occurs - this is in cruise control.
Flash - Bloomberg Reports saying US Safety officials investigating Toyota electronic throttle system. NHTSA is trying to determine if electromagnetic interference is causing the throttle to malfunction.
Flash - update - Steve Wozniak co founder of Apple Computer joins the talk. Says his new 2010 Toyota Prius acceleration goes wild on occasion when car is in cruise control. He said it is "not a bad accelerator pedal." --- In Japan VP for safety of Toyota says no electrronic problems with recalled cars in US - also no tie in with mats and sticky accelerators.
FLASH -- CEO of CTS the pedal manufacturer - says, "we are not making the old pedals for Toyota' We are actually producing the new pedal and we are working with them for a field fix."
Flash -- Lawsuit filed in Texas - by Hilliard Munoz Guerra LLP - charging Toyota with "breach of implied warranty." Meanwhile Mr. Tadashi Arashima , CEO of Toyota Motor Europe said , " a precision cut steel reinforcement bar will be installed into the assembly that will reduce the surface tension between friction shoe and the adjoining surface." he also said "no relation to the format issue." I should add - Toyota is not doing the rug or mat issue in Europe.
Flash --- Rochton Genova LLP --files in Ontario, Canada Superior Court - seeking compensation for all Canadians affected by Toyota and recalls. They say "fix" does not address ETCS-i system itself. And that it all lacks a "fail Safe" device - this is also the brake override device - which Toyota did not install - and other manufacturers did.
Flash Update = present owners of recalled cars - not "rug people" recalls. You get what Toyota calls a "selective spacer" which is inserted into gas pedal to increase tension - Toyota says they can make 120,000 a day. My bet is that "rug" people can get this also if they insist - seems like a very inexpensive piece. The manufacturer of pedal assembly says the assembly is not causing unintended acceleration. The new assemblies are being put into cars at factory - it seems.
Flash - seems there is a possibility that Toyota "may" purchase back recalled cars that were bought from Jan. 21 to date production of those cars was halted. Perhaps on Monday they will clarify.
Flash -- Manufacturer of floor pedal assembly - said they are manufacturing in 3 plants a new stronger pedal that should take care of any moisture problems - this would be the recall of 2.3 million - but not the 5.4 million recall for floor mats - but that should be much easier for Toyota = simply reducing size of pedal - and giving new mats,- on Monday Toyota is supposed to give a timetable for corrections.
Flash - surprisingly -- Toyota December 2010 sales were higher than Dec. 2009. In fact though - there are about 40,000 auto deaths a year - the biggest problem is the wild driver ,alcoholic, cell phone user, texting driver.
FLASH -- Los Angeles Times, Sat. edition - reports pedal manufacturer defending themselves - quote from CTS " deep concern that there is widespread confusion and incorrect information ." "The problem of sudden unintended acceleration has been reported to have existed in some Lexus and Toyota vehicles going back to 1999 when CTS did not even make this product for any customer."Wow - Toyota does not want to hear dates .
Flash -- Safety Research and Stratagies in Mass. - reports that there have been 2,274 incidents since 1999 with Toyotas - and 275 accidents. CEO of Toyota - in meeting - Davos - apologized for it all - then left in his Audi. Toyota told US Govt. that condensation develops when car heater is on.
Flash -- According to article in Wall St. Journal - NHTSA put pressure on Toyota to stop selling all those cars - since they do not have a fix. Note that i have put up another investigative video - using rubber mats which are "stickier" - no affect on pedal.
Flash -- CTS Corp. stock plunging - this is outfit that makes the pedal - i think they make the entire pedal assembly. Toyota now saying they believe it may be condensation around the pedal - guess they mean entire apparatus - causing problem. What about those rugs?
Flash - Update - Congress committee to hold hearings - now asking Toyota for all info on problem - and NHTSA - for what they have. Toyota has said they "do not have a fix" at this time - but was not removal of rugs the fix? I guess that was the fix on only certain cars.
Further NEWS - Late Wed. --Avis and Hertz announcing they are removing 20,000 Toyotas from rental fleets. And Enterprise to remove all Toyotas and Vibes from rental fleet.
LATEST LATEST -- Toyota announces another one million recalls - cars are Venza, Matrix, Highlander, Pontiac Vibe - yes Pontiac - seems they were made in a Toyota factory. Today, Wed. elderly woman crashed into a laundry in Pa. - said her Toyota took o0ff when she shifted from Park - but this has to be investigated - i have some questions in this instance.
VERY LATEST -- Toyota announces plant closings making certain models - and will stop selling - RAV4, Corolla, Avalon, Camry, Tundra and Sequoia - plants to close in Kentucky, Indiana, Texas.
Update - as i understand it - those vehicles that have had the computer throttle box replaced - total numbers must be very small - Toyota when doing the throttle box also replaces the accelerator pedal configuration -- i think the total cost for 3 million cars would be prohibitive .
Correction - the "smart brake" is initially only to be installed - starting in Jan. in ES350 and Camry - as year progresses - other cars will get it. That is as i get it - but can be changed week to week.
The "safety device" - or as it is called in auto industry - "smart brake" will only be retrofitted on following cars by Toyota - Camry, Avalon, Lexus ES350, IS350 and IS250 - "smart brake"is being put in ALL new production cars manufactured from Jan. on.
"what do you think?" I think you're full of crap.
