  • This is so much better than the studio version in so many ways it's unbelievable

  • I was there! Amazing concert...Portnoy even said it was their best show on the tour! Went to the meet and greet at an HMV before the show too.

  • 06:57 Mike Portnoy rocks!

  • Blind Faith we have in yoouoouoouoououuuoouuuuu

  • such a powerful performance, I love this dvd. This song and Surrounded in particular.

  • Why does everything have to turn in to an Avenged Sevenfold gayfest? Everyone knows gates couldn't play himself out of a paper bag.

  • I don't care what anyone says I love Labrie in this !!

  • Dream Theater is my favorite band, but man, the vocals in their live shows are bad,... I'm probably gonna' get reamed out for saying that, but it's true.

That being said, I've never been to a concert before and I'd love to see DT.

  • @chiborib0 I've heard he's gotten a lot better. I agree he sucks major donkey-balls during this chorus. Seeing them 25:th of January 2013 so I'll tell you how it sound!

  • @blasphemytard More than a year is a long time to wait for a review.

  • @chiborib0 The vocals are great in concert, but the recording of his voice is'nt that good some times

  • @chiborib0 It varies. Sometimes his singing is better than in the studio, and sometimes...it's like this. Check out Raise the Knife from the Score DVD, and Trial of Tears from Live in Budokan to see some of LaBrie's best live performances.

  • Good to see *SOME* people recognize the challenge of being a vocalist and not taking shots while sitting on their ass watching performances. LaBrie has an extremely tough role: Many keys/modes, (unlike countless rock/metal singers who sing in less than 3 keys), wide range of melodies, many parts that are high even for a tenor... And the melodies are generally written FOR HIM to sing.. And his vox are way on top of the mix and un-effected! Considering, he's pretty badass

  • James is not very good in this video. IMO Score captures the best of James Labrie

  • Personally, i don't like James Labrie performance in this video, it's really out of the song!! And in my opinion Jordan Rudess first solo is not so good.. i could prefer that he could play that piece of song as he did in the studio version! It would be really really better!!! But they really are gods of music, and i'm really sorry that Portnoy has left the band! :(

  • meno male che c è jordan rudess dio salvi jordan rudess

  • Oh God...Labrie...why?

  • wtf is wrong with labrie on chorus?

  • @JCesarDT labrie sucks on verses pre verses chorus pre post everything!!! LABRIE SUCKS IN LIVE PERFORMANCE... AND IN THE STUDIO USE AUTOTUNE MOST OF THE TIME...i would sell my soul and give labrie in exchange for portnoy

  • @leonorhdez nah too late, and i love labrie's voice.

  • @leonorhdez Autotune? I doubt it.

  • @leonorhdez there is actually minor use of autotune in the studio for labrie. though you wouldnt know what a real voice without autotune sounds like because your latest five favorited vids are Beyonce Joe Jonas LMFAO and Rihanna. i dont even know why your watching DT? Also i wouldnt sell your soul over a band. at that point your not a fan your straight up DT's bitch haha. Thanks for the comment tho! I do enjoy a good laugh!:)

No your stuff before you start talkin shit

  • Jordan Rudess!! I worship youuuuuuu!!! xD

  • a7x is pure shit. dream theater is so great.

  • This song reminds me of Porcupine Tree...the atmosphere, the drumming... one of my favorites of DT for sure. Not nearly as good as the album version though

  • PERFEITO!

  • A7X is not even on the same planet as DT in any form or fashion . Those guys have some talent, but have no SOUL!

  • @killerchassis What the fuck are you saying? Go listen to the solo of hollow years live at budokan or lines in the sand, then we see who have no soul.

  • @xxxxx6778 i think he was saying just the opposite big guy, a7x has no feeling

  • @rushsubdivisions ops sorry! :D

  • @xxxxx6778 glad to see your supportive of dream theater tho!

  • @rushsubdivisions it's a pleasure to support such a talented band! Sorry again for the misundrestanding! :)

  • The top 5 talented musicians in the World = this....

  • i love this song!! has been swirling in my head for days. y'all know this came out on "6 degrees" right? the only vocalist that LaBrie ever tries to sound like is himself. And, for anyone who went to see DT live on the "Chaos in Motion" tour, you would know that the set list was VERY demanding vocally. If he isn't exactly spot on, i could find it in my heart not to be so critical. He is amazing!

  • @catherineh83 plus he did a terrific job on the lines in the sand during the chaos in motion tour

  • 7:38

    Mike: :) >:( *projectile spit* XD :P

The faces say it all lol

  • That keyboard setup looks like something out of Star Wars

  • 17 dislikes?? such a disgrace

  • how the fuck can a hater comment the get most thumbs up??

and how can it do that when it even misspelt the bands name?!?

  • @luckyluke193 because its true. it was a7x fans that started the hating in the first place. no one cares any more, look right below the comment... 5 months ago. its over let it go

  • @rushsubdivisions I like both groups a lot and I think that they should go on tour together (:

  • dont really like james's singing the chorus ah well thats negligible the rest was amazing as always with dt live

  • @JoeyThe14th they need a mortal connection with our world to channel their power... otherwise it would overload and implode the planet.

  • the final piano solo is verry verry verry VERRY good!!!!!!!!!!

  • its funny that people say jlb gets worse and worse and state that the chaos in motion tour were among his worst performances yet actually he sounded very good on the black clouds and silver linings tour

  • A tear is literally brought to my eye every time I listen to the 0:00 to 0:21 segment. That sweeping note JR hits at the end of that "shred" is just... epic.

  • WE want a dream theater channel....

  • Hehe, just noticed that at 5:57 Jordan accidentally triggered a note on his Continuum... ;)

  • Amazing Unison

  • jordan is soo god maaaan.... nuff said

  • The solo at 8:18 sounds incredible on the studio version.

  • vocals are a little rough

  • dat unison...

  • great song

  • This song, not necessarily this performance, proves that DT will be perfectly fine without MP in the band. The collaboration between rudess and petrucci will make the future of DT a great place to be. Portnoy will always be my favorite drummer, but he ditched my favorite band. What can ya do?

  • Most wonderful key/guitar unison in the world!

  • I will bet my life that AX7 cant play this!

  • @StylishStar88 usually i dont read the comments.... but this one caught my eye... and i couldnt agree more!!!

  • @rushsubdivisions Well, they probably couldn't. But that's because they're a metal band, not a a progressive band. 2 different styles of music. Plus, A7X wouldn't do a progressive song because most of the time, progressive isn't that good, and they wouldn't want to do a progressive song anyway.

  • @StylishStar88 and yet Portnoy wanted to continue with them, but they rejected him. and then after that, he tries to rejoin Dream Theater. i love Portnoy as a drummer, but i cant respect him anymore on how hypocritical he is

  • @DylanEVH I can safely say that Portnoy had a midlife crisis when he joined AX7!

  • @DylanEVH he probably got bored of noodling around on the drums at home all day, every day by himself. but i think that he really took Dream Theater for granted; he didn't know what he had until he lost it, so he wanted to rejoin. i guess we all have to learn that lesson some way and MP just needed the first hand experience to get it.

  • @AquinasofAwesome I think MP thought he was *IN* with AX7 but had enough control of DT that they'd give him his 18 months+ if something were to happen... but JLB, JM & JR actually grew a spine and when Ax7 saw the terrible mess Portnoy made by his comments to the media they rethought keeping him on at least as a "Touring Member", nevermind bringing him into the band. Portnoy clearly saw his "plan" backfire and saw rejoining fail when the band decided they liked The Spine and would keep it. ;-).

  • @StylishStar88 synyster gates could.

  • @stevegotch doubt it

  • @rushsubdivisions Don't. He could. Of course, I'm being to mean about this, you're probably just jealous of him cause you can't play guitar worth a shit. Its ok to be jealous, but it gets you nowhere.

  • @dumbdrummer95 so let me get this straight... you think because that i believe that sinister gates cant play john petrucci's guitar solo that im jealous of him? i fully admit sinister gates can out play me by a long shot. but is it necessary to tell me i cant play guitar "worth a shit"? i didnt even mention my guitar playing in this so why is that even an issue? when you want to act like adults and talk like one you let me know. until then there is no point in having this conversation with you.

  • @rushsubdivisions That is true. You didn't bring your guitar playing up. I didn't really need to say that. I really am sorry. Plus, you're probably right, Syn may be good, but John is a better guitarist. Its just that on this song, its seems kind of simplistic for John to be playing. I usually expect him to be playing something more complex. But, John could kick Syn's ass in a guitar battle any day, and sadly is a fact. John has had more years of experience and he went to a college of music.

  • @dumbdrummer95 your forgiven:) no grudges

  • @rushsubdivisions Thank you. Now, on to the next guitarist. jk

  • @StylishStar88 :D:D you're right mate..i just want to bring out the fact that DT plays progressive music and A7X straight metal/hard rock..u really cant compare them ;( just like these unnecessary battles here in youtube..like John Petrucci vs. Santana etc.

  • @apina313 Hey People, is there anybody here who dont like Jimi Hendrix's playing. Please, tell me, or we are only two lads who dont like it.

  • @uzickimajmunac i dont either.

  • @StylishStar88 yeah, fuck ax7

  • @StylishStar88 Damn right!!

  • @StylishStar88 I will bet that 99% of bands alive cant play this..so why the fuck bring up A7X?

  • @maldrifterxxx Simply because Portnoy chose AX7?

  • @StylishStar88 Right..portnoy chose to help a band that had a terrible loss...and lets not forget, PORTNOY chose..

  • @StylishStar88 Bet It :D

  • @StylishStar88 sure maybe they could, but could never create something like this...

  • my favorite band but damn they have some average stage moves...loved the keyboard solos

  • @DrkLh so what reaction were you expecting? me to swear or tell you to burn in hell? nope. you can say what you want to say but all i have to do is click one button and the comment is deleted... what ever floats your boat.

  • Sweet Jesus the paino solo in this kills

  • Deism ftw

  • LaBrie kinda spoiled this video for me... just don't like his performance in this one, although it's pretty much my favorite dt song

  • Its dissapointing JLB sounds so lackluster, because the tracklist on Chaos in Motion is the best of their live albums imo. I know he can sound good when he wants to; I saw DT live a couple months ago and James sounded spectacular. If you are shooting a DVD wouldn't you make sure you are performing your best? idk...

  • @redsledgehammer4085 I know you posted this 4 months ago, but still. I dont agree completely, if you look at some other songs like scarred or lines in the sand he does sound amazing. A singer can not perform at his best all the time, it would ruin your voice completely. Rememter this dvd is recorded through different concerts. Still agree he could do better in this song. Peace

  • @kevintje82onboard I understand that a singer is going to have some off nights where he isn't doing his best, but for A LIVE DVD (especially if you are recording a bunch of shows and using only the songs you performed best of), seriously. Normally i figure bands push themselves to perform their best when recording for a live dvd.

  • @redsledgehammer4085 The fact that James has ruptured his vocal cords TWICE doesn't help much either.

  • @Deathz0r94 don't get me wrong, i love JLB, i saw DT live last summer or something and he was awesome. It doesn't seem like he tried during that live video though. You'd think he would if it was being filmed for a live dvd

  • @redsledgehammer4085 I do think that it's just with how long they toured and how little sleep I assume they got compared to the number of shows probably didn't help him out.

  • JONN MYUNG IS THE BEST BASS OF THE UNIVERSITY.END

  • wow genious!

  • This is my favorite Dream Theater vocal chart...

  • This is one of the few DT which I think LaBrie owns by himself. It's a shame he screws it up with his messed up vibrato...

  • @SpaceDyeDream

    yeah.. the vibrato sucks

  • @squirttilithurts I agree, the vibrato sucks a lot

  • LABRIE: You're ruining the song with your vibrato. Chill!

  • God...there were very very good songs on Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence...!

  • 5:12 = super cool

  • I just realised how much jordan resembles James Hetfield!

  • The best part is when Jordan totally just interrupts the song with beautiful piano

  • please don't tell me jordan was sight-reading the unison. that would just make me feel like crap.

  • @TheWindWaker01 haha! no it was written this way, it's not improv.

  • longest description ever

  • I really do not know why Mike picked this Blind Faith Version for the Release.

He once said that he basically used his Footage from his DVD´s at home to create this Chaos in Motion Package. I mean you can clearly hear that the front of house guy had a bad day, or the acoustic of the venue was shitty. But aside of that: James normally doesn´t sound like singing through his nose! Everyone should´ve noticed that!

I think this is totally soundmans fault. And a bad Portnoy DVD Choice.

  • que buena banda !!!!! por dios !!!!!!!

  • oh and 7:40 LMAOOOO mike CAMEL SPIT!!! petrucci: WTF MAN MY GEARR!! portnoy: :p IM SORRY OH WELL :D LES KEEP PLAYING lol

  • man james labrie is a clear example of what AGE can do to you lol went from 1992 Fabio looking labrie into this... present day old man hahahaha

  • @josevivo Well isnt James 50 now, I guess by that age you're suppose to look your age.

  • This song is proof that Jordan Rudess is a wizard.

  • james's vibrato is toooo much

  • lol at the giant ant on the stage :)

  • Agh, someone did a terrible job with the audio mixing. I can barely hear Petrucci and Rudess.

  • man the chorus.. james's voice totally fucks up.

  • james should write most of the lyrics

  • I WAS THERE!

  • whoever mixed the audio should be ashamed of this. All I hear are vocals and drums. Why is it sound guys love to CRANK live vocals? When the vocals are too loud it sucks ALL of the energy out of the music. Granted, in person the mix probably sounded a lot better but this is something that happens constantly with live performances. It drives me nuts.

  • @SJP444 To ad to my previous comment I've noticed that amateur recording studios also have a habit of making vocals wayyyyyy too loud in the mix. When you're dealing with rock music the guitars need to be loud and the vocals need to be "tucked" somewhat. Otherwise you get a really lifeless sound and unless you have to vocal power of a Janis Joplin, the vocals will lose steam as well.

  • haha that was like 'Jordan Rudess meets Jim Brickman'

    great song btw

  • 6:12 - 6:56 Beautiful

  • This is one of their best songs in my mind. The lyrics are so wonderful and the the music is great.

  • james must have ad something wrong with his voice that night, maby used it a big too hard before

  • seeing these guys... same place, lol, opening for iron maiden on june 3rd, im kinda exited...

  • 8:18 - 8:46

    Best DT musical passage.

  • Agreed

  • what jordan does from 6:12 onwards is just beautiful! :D

  • @PorcupineTheater85 Your name should have been "PorcupineTreeater." Pretty clever right

  • wtf, dude are you tryin to rob dream theater? What's with that list you got in info on the right?

  • @Mapon123

    What's wrong with the list?

  • i love 7:19

  • Comment removed

  • this is a MUCH BETTER recording than the one on chaos in motion '07. especially the unison. i wish they had put this on cim07 album :P.

  • 6:12 and on is the reason why this band has the most talented musicians on the planet. So sexy.

  • love this band..but yeah the guitar is hard to hear in this recording...

  • I can barely hear the guitar

  • Waw... the solos are just great.

  • he always spits toward petrucci's stuff

  • @quicksilver5656 That's because if he spits the other way he'll hit Jordan..and NO ONE like an angry wizard. ;)

  • Man, that guy right in front of the camera can't clap in time!

  • 7:41

    Epic spit.

  • man. i wonder what james did to start singing beter. lol

i seen them on the black clouds tour and his voice is amazing. it just sucked here.

  • Petrucci is looking more and more like Conan The Barbarian. IF you subscribed to guitarcenter you see what I mean.

  • wow labrie must have been really tired I saw Dt a few weeks ago and and he was doing an incredible job of hitting all the notes

  • Your wrong. Dont come back and watch this video or comment or it will be deleted!!!!!

  • jee somebodys a christian

  • Yeah i am and i dont put up with crap like this.

  • @rushsubdivisions No, He's right, his voice is off. Your just so stuck up your own ass that you cant realize that LaBrie Got lazy onstage that recording.

  • His voice annoys me a little in this one- but you gotta think after 20-30 years of belting it out hed lose something eventually- regardless the rest of this dvd was amazing and this song still gives me euphoria

  • Greatest band ever. 2:52 lol

  • I like James LaBrie but this performance was a really poor one :/

and this song is a masterpiece in studio

  • @DestroyerGreat Exactly. Especially about the last sentence.

  • looks like jordan is going off at his solo! :)

  • yeah Jesus christ is god.

  • YES!

  • not at all man...

  • 8:18

Hmmmm... Petrucci is playing 1 8va down :S... very hard solo anyway.

  • Comment removed

  • damn I haven't listened to this track in years but the vocals sounded bit the first time around on the chorus

  • its standard tuning?¿

  • @DANGILBERT03 NO! Bari A tuning. REALLY low campared to standard tunging. 6 half steps lower. Very low tuning. He uses amazingly thick strings for this song (13,17,24p,36,48,66) Hope that helped!

  • no, he is using a baritone guitar (or bass guitar) in standard A. One of the most low tuning

  • How do you make upside down question marks?

  • @ahigherstate ¿?

  • rudes just owns the last third of this song, one of his best in my oppinion

  • I love it how the clapper gets confused at 00:52

  • Well I'd consider myself as to be one of the greatest [xD]James LaBrie fans ever but I must admit that the CiM DVD was the worst in terms of James' performance...unfortunately! He was still good though! If only they would make a DVD of this tour because he rocks so much now!

  • The world needs more people like you :)

I love the way James performs in CiM even though it's not his best, yet he performs abilities and it's an awesome DVD. Unfortunately an official DVD won't be released for this tour, maybe the next tour, where James would kick even more asses.

  • thank you xD! Hell yeah he will kick some serious ass. Can't wait for his new solo album and a solo tour again! Would make next year that much sweeter!

  • yea i hear i hes back, is he really doing that good? is he like the way he used to be (see what i did there) or is he just doing better than normal?

  • DT needs to find someone with the same tone as LaBrie but without screwing the songs live.

  • James LaBrie is allright

I hope he'll never get out of Dream Theater

  • I mean, don't get me wrong, I love LaBrie, but he's been losing his ability to sing live as well as he did before. Each concert I go to I believe is worse than the one before. I don't know, maybe is my frustration of seeing how the rest of the band are still on top form and LaBrie is not.
