Mr .Merle Travis introduced it all to America back in the 30's 40's and 50's, no doubt.. one of our greats for the "finger pick" style.........then Chet Atkins, and on and on and on.. I am one of their followers till this day............... Les Broxton, Alabama USA

P.S. I own and play the Fender Telecaster (Candy Apple Red) guitar, and a Meco Traditional TT2, also a Pevey Guitar and Amp. I love 'em all....

Merle Travis was a good friend of mine and he was a real trend setter but he learned the thumb-finger style of picking a guitar from Mose Rager and Ike Everly. I have no idea who they learned it from. I'm glad you like this style of pickin', I know I sure love to play it and I'm with you...I love all guitars. @bluwng Thank you so much for your comment. My wife and I did the hot rodded part on the Gibson. We ordered the Merle bar and the Bixby tailpiece from Ted McCarty at Gibson Accessories in Kalamazoo, MI and installed them ourselves along with a quick disconnect so I could use a guitar strap. The guitar is a Custom Master Gibson Super 400. Thanks again.....Rog

@elsariguella Rock-A-Billy was what is was called before it became known as rock and roll. I used to play a Fender guitar in my younger days and a Marshall amp is one of the best you could have. James Burton was a great guitar player and the Beatles were super. If you like this rock-a-billy sound and haven't listened to it yet, play my song "I've Got A Woman". It is really Rock-a-Billy! @elsariguella Thank you for your nice comment. This was before Rock & Roll, this sound is called "Rock-A-Billy". There were four guys that recorded for Sun records in Memphis, TN. Carl Perkins was singing Blue Suede Shoes, two guys were clapping, whistling, etc. Carl asked what their names were and they said, I'm Rocky and he's Billy. Carl replied from now on this music will be called Rock-A-Billy. Scotty Moore played the same lick when Elvis Presley sang this song. Thanks again...Ole Rog

I was lucky enough to have met many of the great stars and even got to play on stage with Merle Travis and Joe Maphis "King of the Strings" and both of them invited me to Chet Atkin's house. I have also played with Tex Williams (the singer of Merle's song Smoke, Smoke, Smoke that Cigarette) and the wonderful song "The Deck of Cards". Thanks for watching....Rog

Nice. I saw Scotty Moore playing live in Leeds about 6 years ago. He was truly awesome. He just played like - well- as if he was good to be Elvis Presleys guitarist. Cheers Gary

You may or may not know he played a guitar a little smaller than mine, and if memory serves correctly, ES models started at ES 325- 335 and up to ES 395. I believe Scotty Moore played ES 395 at the time. It was a great Gibson guitar about 1955 or 56. Best Regards.....Rog

I souped it up with a Bixby vibrola and a Merle Travis bar and a Chet bar built especially for me by Ted McCarty before the Ted McCarty golden era expired in 1996. Ted invented the Flying V guitar and was the President of Gibson Guitars for 18 years. He bought out Paul Bixby who built the first working Vibrola designed by Merle Travis in'66. @ltatch Hi Lynn, thanks so much for your comment, I really appreciate it. Whenever I play the Super 400 I have to use my twin reverb amp. It has two JBL speakers in it. The other ones don't have enough power to carry the big guitar. I have three amps and have been tempted to sell the Twin Reverb but I love the sound and the power it has...so I still have it.
