Neither of those are slow-rolling. Slow-rolling is when you have an unbeatable hand and someone goes all in and you sit there and pretend to think about it even though you have the nuts. Those two things mentioned, yeah thats being an asshole, but neither is slow-rolling. I mean think about it, those two things you can do...neither of them involve being slow. Being slow to make an easy decision...aka when you're obviously the winner...that's slow-rolling.

There are three forms of slow rolling;

1) Representing a losing hand before showing a winning hand at showdown.

2) Tanking once a player is all in before calling the nuts and their is no more action to come. This includes Aces pre-flop.

3) Flipping one card before the other at showdown

One and Two are the worst when done intentionally and even when done by accident it is not well received. The third is looked at as show boating or attention whoring and is also not well received.

What about the Phil Helmuth vs. Mike Baxter incident on Poker After Dark? The board was 39387, no flushes possible. Baxter turns over pocket KK and announces "two pair" and Phil goes nuts and says it was a terrible slow roll. I guess he expected Mike to say "kings up" or "kings and threes" instead of two pair. Well, I was looking at the WSOP Main Event Rules in an attempt to clear this up, and it seems that if you misdeclare your hand, your hand is not mucked, but you can receive a penalty at the discretion of the floorman if he feels it was malicious/if the offence is persistent. This aligns with my experience; it is not an automatic mucking by any means!

Correct. Sometimes players misread their hands but when the cards are turned over "the cards speak". This means that every player at the table is obliged to help out reading the hands correctly. So if another player turns over his hand showing a 8 for trip 8s only and the dealer also overlook the full house and is about to award the pot to the second player incorrectly, then you must point out that the trip 7s is actually a full house. This is not a etiquette issue. Cards speak is an actual rule

Set - Flop a Set - Trips

1) Set: three of a kind where you have a pair hidden and one more exposed

2) Flopping a Set: having a pocket pair, and hitting one of your pair on the flop.

For example, you hold 88 and the flop is 872.

3) Turning a Set / Rivering a Set: hitting your card on fourth or fifth street.

ok, this guy has the right idea, but the wrong way of demonstrating it (really terrible actually lol). for one, a few people here are getting the terms "slow play" and "slow roll" mixed up. for those who don't know, slow playing is when in action, you deliberately take your time to make a call/raise with very strong cards or the nuts to induce your opponent to bet. a SLOW ROLL is when the hand is over, and you take your sweet ass time showing your cards. dont do this, its fkin rude.

Ahh, no, "slow playing" is NOT "taking your time to make a call/raise with very strong cards..." If that has a term at all, it might be "Hollywooding."

Slow playing is a legitimate betting strategy that means simply checking/calling or min-betting monster hands on early streets, to induce your opponent to at least stay in the hand in hopes he'll improve (or at least think he has) on later streets and bet out. It's a classic "weakness means strength" move, but doesn't involve any "acting."
