Well, the only thing I intend to do is get Euryale's head to lvl 2 for the instant flash. I tried the Barbarian Hammer on hard and it just seemed to clunky for me. After all, I do try my best to be entertaining.
Euryale's Head is a good call. You'll want to have lvl3 of that before Translator of Lahkesis Wave 3 for sure.
Though you could make it easier on ourself to whore for EXP before Theseus and get lvl3 TB (sounds VERY strange to new players)...but the process is a tad tedious *to get it by then*.
You're new so to you the BH is clunky. That is true without the use of tricks.
For now I suggest (when using it) you only use "triangle, triangle" or Might of the King.
You CAN cancel out of sub-weapon specials (when you have at least 2) by pausing and cycling through them which *upon unpausing* sets you up with the blades in position to block/evade if need be.
Proper switching to the Blades allows ease of rolling IF you need that sort of thing.
A simple block does a decent job of CANCELING the buffer after the second triangle hit allowing you to go back on the defenseive..or prep for another 2x triangle (rapid usage).
A faster way, is to pull out the Head of Euryale or Typhon's Bane *just tap L2* which will cancel the buffer and allow you to start another series of attacks. Incidentally, the draw animation for those are also i-frames which allows the tactic of "tricking"...letting attacks/effects pass harmlessly through Kratos.
Certain spells (AQ, PR, etc.) are entirely made of these but you don't want to have to spend MP for every little trick...that is where TB and EH come into play yet again.
The damage dealt by the Barbarian Hammer is just ABSURD. Getting good with canceling/tricking will allow you to hit more often/rapidly while staying clear of taking damage back. Effective use of Rage for tanking through with a power-up if need be.
