Greetings from Chicago! It was a GREAT pleasure to see Jan Akkerman at Plovdiv Jazz Nightts 2011! Impressive job! I can't stop waching all the videos of yhis work on YouTube (old and new). Hope to see him again performing in Chicago or Plovdiv.
Fantastic, soulful Blues! Jan knows his way around the guitar, that's a surety! He was born with soul and he's still got it! Great audio, I was somewhat surprised! The Bass is also awesome, as well as the keyboards! Just a great jam session here in the Netherlands! Those guitar-riffs you'd expect out of young guys, but Akkerman pulls it off amazingly, so effortless! FABULOUS! Thx for posting this Vincent!!!
I always go back to Jan Yes ,come hell or high water !-A true purist and innovator in all his music from day 1. he is just someone , without any thing just as pure as the first fallen snow , in all his compositions and what he does, never walking alongside his shoes , the most , loved and exceptional person and
guitarist/composer in this country .and for that matter,The world !Always a big thanks to Vincent for his camera work and uploads , he is an authority on jan Akkerman ! :-))) gus
@Kaptein60, haha, thanx for your comment, how simple can english be :-), I think "in good form" is also right... BTW when I was at highschool, Focus played there, the band was just "formed", I still think his solo in Hocus Pocus is incredible;
Jan himself still likes it, he often plays it, last time I watched him do it he said "I will do it, but please no Yodeling!" lol
hey!! i saw them in 2007 in Athens. and that environment you say there vincetlyons was exactly what made the concert magical! he is superb to watch and i enjoyed it soo much! i remember i had a constant smile on my face through the hole live!
The song is 30 year old? Doesn't matter! The grey hair & bald patches in the audience are 30 year older as well and still I bet their owners see long hair and spotty faces in the mirror as they pull on their faded T-Shirts before they go out gigging. Sure, Rock will never die - but its audience is gradually going senile...
tijdens ,,bevrijdingspop,, 1971 stond Jan ook op de planken samen met Focus, en nu alweer wat jaren later dit onvergetelijke optreden, in die gezellige kroeg, thanks en de groeten aan de ,,Neut,,
Absolutely superb, one of the finest and most enjoyable Akkerman performances I've seen. You can really sense the joy of the event. Brilliant vid, big thanks.
Now just can't wait till we get him at the Cube in November (fingers crossed nearly sorted)!
Great video - it is just like being there. People are all around but then you find a nice viewing place and watch the master at work.
This is the original and iconic 1958 (or was it 57?) 'Focus at the Rainbow' Les Paul Black Beauty which has been refurbished with the triple pickups and Stetsbar.
Also notice Jan's newset guitar, the 'Saga Gitane Jean Akkerman' leaning against the wall in the background.
It was his 'Tiger Stripe' Les Paul Personal that was damaged and not the 'Black Beauty' used here. However the damaged guitar has been repaired after 20 years and is now back in use again

That is Jans '72 LP custom - and is fitted with a Stetsbar tremelo system - There are a few sites that show how these are fitted to LP's

I thought Akkerman's original Focus Les Paul was wrecked in 1974 - that's what he said in a May 08 interview in Guitar Player.

Nah, Jan's original black Les Paul was trashed in the 1970s. Anyway that was a Custom not a Black Beauty.
g9jim 3 years ago
Jan said on Facebook that the original 'Rainbow' guitar was left with Framus and when he asked for it back they said they hadn't got it.
Sorry for the mis-information.
