@meroveonepiece No thanks. Mac is a UNIX. Linux is a UNIX. There is a common ground between Mac and Linux. Not that Mac is a Linux, they are just both UNIces.
Windows was made FROM Linux, too. lol look it up. Anything that has Command Prompt are UNIX which means Window is a Linux, too. and if you don't know then please don't talk.
Back then the only thing that you can go on Computer and do is alll thru the Command Prompt, but then Linux was released (it was free) and it has GUI (Graphical User Interfaces) which is Desktop, like I said, if you don't know about Linux, then don't argue with me about it..
@meroveonepiece Alright. Look at JBrealow's post 385 (title Is Mac OS... you get the point) where it says it uses Mach, which is the best of FreeBSD+OpenBSD. DOS had zip to do with UNIX, except that it had a command prompt. And to this day, Windows and Linux have pretty much zip to do with each other, except now they have a GUI. Linux retains the command prompt to this day, whereas Windows has ditched it's only virtual terminal. Mac OS has nearly zip to do w/ Linux.
@jjovereats he's wrong, dude. Linux was actually the father of Windows and Mac. I got it wrong when I said Linux is Mac, I'm sorry about that, but before Linux was made, Unix is what exist and my dad said that it was total shit. All you do is sitting at your keyboard and type for command. sigh..
@meroveonepiece Look. FreeBSD has more to do with Linux than with Windows. FreeBSD and OpenBSD together have more in common with Mac and with Linux. Unix was good, just linux is better.
Sorry but this is very old.. KDE 4 is where you want to be if you are moving from windows and want an improved experience.
The effects your showing don't make an OS.. They aren't a reason to use Linux either.. I've been trying to find a distro I feel comfortable with for years and I found it in KDE 4.. Linux Mint KDE edition infact.. It's perfect.
@Linux4UnMe nope. I'm just talking about that having icons on desktop isn't for us. :) That's something that stupid Windows and Mac users do. :P And also I don't use GNOME 3 yet. I'm still on 2.32 and of course Arch. :)
@elnegrobembon even so, compiz is like the linuz equivilant of windows' aero feature. but it's not that bad. some people are lured by windows' eye candy and this vid ( to me/ my opinion) shows that Linuz has just as good if not better eye candy if that's all that a person is drawn by
oh without a doubt compiz looks cooler.. not only that, but some of the eye candy and features of compiz are actually useful and practical.
even though, i think i saw a video somewhere of somebody using windows and it had the compiz cube effect... it could've been a fake but if it isn't, then windows is finally catching up lol!
@elnegrobembon well, there are quite a few really good looking windows themes for linux so it's possible that it could've been something like that as I've never seen anything like that third party for windows anywhere but I could be wrong.
use the fusion-icon to pick whether you want emerald, or metacity as you're window manager... you can have compiz running with either one.... just makes it easy to switch window decorators that way....
cool video. ive been using linux less then a year, and i favor it over windows anyday. am interested on your hardware specs, how long youve been using linux (arch especially) and how much estimated work you invested into getting your setup "perfect"
sweeet. Nothing too fancy.... amd dualcore 3ghz, 4 gigs ram, asus m4n mobo, Nvidia 7800 gtx. Using Linux for about 6 years, using Arch for about 1.5 to 2 years.....
Doesn't take that long for me to get the gui the way i want it.. maybe a couple hours max ;)
Before people start raging about the title. PLEASE NOTICE that:
-There are thousands of Linux out there. Ubuntu might be a good example, Mac is actually a Linux too (look it up before you start arguing with me)
- Video games are designed for Windows, not Linux. Even though you can play some games on Linux though.
- I have 3 computers:
1 for gaming and I have Windows 7 installed.
1 for my programming class and 1 for my 3D movies. Both of these are Linux, my friend programmed it.
