All old religions/philosophies believed in reincarnation. Gnostic Christianity also accepted reincarnation. It was traditional Christianity which banned it. The soul is divine in origin. I did experience living lifes back-to-back up to what it seemed like something between 200 thousand and 2 million years. But I wouldn't call that thing 'past lives' that actually happened here (on Earth and on just this 3 spatial dimensions). The lifes I lived were not anything like this one in which you are human or so.

To me, calling that 'past lifes' is just a simplistic assumption.

i am skeptical too but he studied at Yale, Columbia, and was in charge of psychiatry at Mt. Sinai. He was agnostic and really did not believe in anything. That is why too me he is more credible than other authors I h ave seen.
