If you can get past how terrible it looks visually, the original was much better. You'll get over it within the first couple episodes. The World God Only Knows did a great spoof on their last episode.

Also, I like KyoAni's approach of using the already great OP from the actual game (with added animation of course) rather than make a new one like Toei did here. Not to mention this song is so bland.

I accually like this version better than the 2006 version. I could really care less about the art, it's not as bad as people are saying it is. Although the 2006 version has much better art, that's not what makes the anime. I enjoyed the way this version told the story a bit better than the newer one.

the original version of kanon graphically really looks like the visual novel.

the 2006 version is graphically a big MOE mutation.

ayu is the one who change the more (if we count only females).

and yuiichi looks like the same in the VN, except he hasn't a face.

the only good things in the 2006 versions are:

-the songs who are exactly the same

-a more complete story

but well, the original version is one of the best short anime ever made.

I saw this one before Kanon 2006. At the time I didn't even know there was a remake. The art style is a bit odd but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the show. I liked the remake better because I thought they did a better job with the story, especially for Mai and Makoto. But I enjoyed both versions and would watch either one again sometime.

I like the opening of this Kanon better until 0:28. Then it feels like it's a different song. The series had a lot of problems, (mainly the art), but I reccommend watching it because I feel like it resolved Shiori's arc better, and Nayuki's arc was actually an arc

It's based on a visual novel, it's kind of girly, but I love it, one of my all time favorite animes (although I prefer the 2006 remake) it's adorable, heart breaking, inspiring, and just plain moving. If you have even the slightest whim to watch it give it a try, it won't dissapoint, although I warn you now, it is absolutely heart breaking.

Yes, I can understand your position. I, as well, prefer 2006. I also understand that some people prefer 2002. Because of the time stretch, and sometimes it depends on which you see first, the preferences can differ for people. It's nice to see people prefer one or the other, though, because is shows that both animes show potential to be good. But even though I enjoyed 2006 much, much more, I believe I do not have the right to say which is "better."

Sure, the art may be ugly to us, but this kind of art was accepted and was considered much nicer the time it was made. Kanon 2002 is no better or worse than 2006. It depends on opinion, and an opinion merely based on appearance is shallow.

I personally like the 2002 Kanon better. While the 2006 anime does have better visual and animation, the 2002 version does a better job of capturing the characters' emotions. (And it's not so much of a "dramedy".)

I think the models from 02 are actually closer to how the game originally looked. Ugh, I hate how the hair clumps together in the 02 version--animators were too lazy to create separate strands. Often when they walk their hair doesn't even blow in this show.

kanon didn't only improved the animation in 2006 plus they make it 24 episode in total which is awesome and they edit yuuchi's appearance, which make yuuchi's appearance better than 2002 because in 2002 yuuchi have big neck.
