Par son action discrète en Italie et ailleurs, il en a sauvé 850 000(selon Pinhas Lapide, consul d'Israël à Milan): plus que tout autre personnage de l'époque, et Mme Golda Meïr, qui présidait aux destinées du peuple d'Israël, l'a reconnu au lendemain de la guerre.
