  • damn jordan made this game seem like a regular season game. beast mode

  • @mikesowell uhhh no jerry wasnt. ive been watching kobe since 1996. hes got more rings, hes a MUCH better defensive player, anddddddd hes more versatile especially when it comes to using his left hand. u sound like an idiot

  • ummmm.... justin bieber?

  • @blackricktheruler well hes not anymore, the best sgs all time are mj kobe then wade and if u say kobes not better then west then u obviously havent seen hes broken every laker scoring record

  • @24sykes Jerry West WAS a better player than Kobe. It amazes me how shallow the average fan is now. Scoring?!? Is that all that matters?

  • @MIKESOWELL could you please search "jerry west" on youtube and watch some of his games? you would find out today NO SCOUT would ever tell you to draft him in the first place, he can't play in today's era.

  • @k13087911 That was a ridiculous comment. I mean, really, CAN'T PLAY? Brian Scalabrine is a better player than Jerry West now? That was a trifling comment. I bet you are under 30 years old.

  • @k13087911 Jerry West grew up in a different era than this. You can't just say he couldn't play in today's NBA. There is no way to know how he'd play today. Which is why it's stupid to make comparisons like that. Would Kobe be nearly as effective if he played without a 3 point line? Would Kobe even be the same player? Especially in a league where there were actually dominant centers.

  • @bobo0383

the most dominant center was no bigger than Scottie Pippen. Basically when Russell played Lamar Odom would be bigger and more athletic than him.

Picture Kobe playing against that competition and Jerry West giving up nearly 4 inches, athleticism and about 25 lbs of muscle to Kobe.

no matter how skilled you are when you give up those advantages you have no shot in a game that requires athleticism and size.

then when you're done with that add this. Kobe is better than West

  • @Dkouts57 Russell played against Chamberlain one of the most best athletes of all time and he gave him fits. He limited to one championship, and gave him fits defensively. Let's not forget West and those players didn't have access to the same physical regimen as the players of today. How can you possibly predict how he would have played if he had access to the same resources as Kobe.

  • @bobo0383

we don't deal with IF they had modern medicine, diets, training, equipment. if thats the case we can go to every sport and say the best players at the beginning of time were the best.

based on what we've seen the modern day players compared to the 60s are light years ahead of them. and the same will be said 40 yrs from now

  • @Dkouts57 Which was my point; that it is unfair to compair eras.

  • @bobo0383 I can't spell: compare*

  • @bobo0383

its very fair. because in 20 yrs when you see someone better than Jordan you wont sit there and say IF Jordan played with these rules, this court, these sneakers, this medicine, these training facilities.

    NO!

this is part of the evolution to all skills all crafts and any profession.

    for example

Napoleon was a great commander not better than Alexander who had worse technology who is before him. Certainly better than any after him such as Patton, with better technology.

  • @Dkouts57 Although I agree Kobe is better than West

  • @bobo0383

kobes the 2nd best SG ever. yet very far behind #1

  • I get lost in these old mj videos

  • i tought mj

  • haha jordan simply rules.

its so gay how the NBA is still looking for his heir that they promote some queen named lebron with zero rings and half of jordans skill, grace and domination.

  • Don't forget it wasn't just Karl's comments that got MJ fired up for this game - the previous year when the Bulls beat the Sonics in the finals he didn't have any signature-type games or big scoring outbursts like this and people were saying that Gary Payton played great defense on him. So naturally MJ wanted to light it up here.

Also, at 3:30 - check out even the Seattle fans smiling and applauding when he hit that half-court shot.

  • JORDAN PLAYING LIKE A SHOOTER... HE WAS A REAL GREAT SHOOTER TOO... (84% IN FREE THROW LINE, THE 76º IN THE RATING OF THE NBA HISTORY WITH 2000 PLAYERS....)

  • Jordan just couldnt be stopped. What other player has had books written about him, defenses doubling and triple teaming him, and has had coaches talking shit about him. Something Kobe has never had, Bryant has never been challenged, simply because he is playing in a washed up era, something that Kobe fans need to deal with.

  • That 3 before half time was amazing. Not that he hit it - that happens occasionally - but he hit it in perfect form. I did not know that you can do that. He is a bio-mechanically wonder.

  • I'm a Jordan fan but what George Karl said is actually partially true. Jordan was able to remain incredibly productive from age 32 to age 35 because he understood what it took to preserve energy and keep himself fresh. The elder Jordan had a great knowledge of the game and his fadeaway jumpshot helped him avoid the wear and tear of grinding down low.

. Jordan's game seemed to have two halves, 1985-1992, the high flying Jordan and from the third championship to 1998, the jump shooting Jordan.

  • @illinifan512 MJ was a deadly jump shooter as well in the pre 90s as well but yea, I see what you mean.

  • @illinifan512 I agree completely and that is why he is the greatest player ever. Because he wasnt all flash, and strength and athleticism. He was the most fundamentally sound basketball player ever. He understood the game and he had the mindset to adjust in any kind of situation.

And he proved it again at age 38-40 on his 3rd comeback. MJ's artistry and magic will probably never happen again...

As Barkley and almost everyone else says: he was the only player who looked like he had no flaws.

  • This was more exciting than the NBA today

  • Wow! Has anyone mentioned Shrempfs block attempt at 5:37? ROFLHELICOPTER.

  • The move on Gary Payton @ 5:51 amazing..he couldn't do anything

  • You know you shouldn't provoked Michael Jordan, Karl. His enthusiasm winning basketball is really high. The more people challenge or provoke him, he will be fired up and let it go on the court. Settle it on the court just let it all to the basketball. He is AMAZING! HIS ENTHUSIASM FOR BASKETBALL AND WINNING IT ARE REALLY HIGH. That's why he ends up being the best basketball player. He worked hard on this.

  • @anash258 He never was the best ever. That's just your stupid opinion and who cares. Payton was hardly on him for most of the matchup.

  • @Thutmosis7 are you mentaly retarded?

  • @Thutmosis7 That's bullshit you dumb ass. Payton did guard him for most of that game.

  • @Thutmosis7 Woah dude. Chill. Yeah, who cares right? Why do you care on replying my comments anyway? I thought you don't even care. Anyway, every people have their own opinion. Like you said, who cares. :D

  • Michael Jordan is the most complete player in NBA history, man. Pull-up jumper, leaner, runner, floater, fadeaway, fallaway, midrange, long-range, close-range, pump fake, jab step, up-and-under, dunk, layup, left hand, right hand, face-up, post-up, driving, elevating, strength, savvy, power, finesse, balance, body control, footwork. Jordan had and did it all.

  • Jordan over Ehlo never gets old.

  • damn that was vintage jordan

  • The more I watch Michael the more Im confident about his greatness, about being the undisputed best basketball ever.

When I was younger I haven's seen so many things in his game but now I am fully aware how amazing he really was

  • Forty FIVE for Jordan.

  • is there a better commentator than Marv Albert on Jordan? No. "oh what a move by Jordan!"

  • When you're on target, the rim opens up for ya. DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMN!!!!

  • wait wtf? who's the bad guy Karl or Van Gundy?

  • damn, mj hit him so hard that he got cancer. thats crazy!

  • @SamuraiSwoosh LOOOOL!!! The face he made was hilarious wasn't it!!

  • It makes no sense for George Karl to put on a raincoat made of aluminum foil and walk outside during a lightning storm, and yet that may have been a better decision than angering the single deadliest weapon basketball has ever known...MICHAEL JORDAN!!

  • fade away, fall away, set shot, jump shot, turn around jump shot, cross over, lay up, dunks.. how can you defend this monster like michael jordan.. too much to handle.. he's the world's greatest.. he's michael jordan..

  • that jumper was like divine rain

  • @SamuraiSwoosh Yeah, I remember that too.

  • I think its stupid that Karl said that.Whatever shots win games are best.Who cares what type they are.George Karl is a sore loser.

  • I guess he was trying to question Michael's physical toughness or get in his head because he know Michael has as much pride as any athlete in any sport. But it didn't work. Michael killed the Sonics with those jumpers.

  • That he did.The lesson of dont give Michael Jordan extra incentive to beat you learned yet again.

  • @BobReidy It is true tho that Mj was watching to make sure that he didnt get hurt. Mj in his early days would have taken it to the basket and got a lot of and 1s, but Mj got smarter and ended up perfeting his outside game so much that he didnt need his inside game as much. thats how great MJ was. Even at 40, his outside game was torching these youngsters like nothing and going for 40 and 50 pt games to win it. MJ = GOAT!

  • This is true.Still GOAT.

  • @Shermstyle23

And MJ in that second 3-peat, played all 82 games for the 3 - seasons. At age 32-35.

  • @BobReidy not anymore so it's all cool hahaha

  • i keep fast forwarding through the video using the time bar and every time the video resynchs to the time i set it to its says MICHAEL JORDAN with the three or michael jordajn withe shot, he was the only scoring option the other 4 guys just played defense that is why michael jordan is so great brecause he can carry the entire scoring load anytime now thats greatness.

  • They should change the NBA logo to Air Jordan symbol!! they got a fuckn Jerry west!!

  • @tt09291979 Im sure one day they will because Michael was the greatest ever and plus the jumpman symbol is awesome and everyone loves it

  • @tt09291979 calm dwn buddy jerry is classic

  • @tt09291979 Leave nba logo as it is.

  • @tt09291979 nah theres something old school about jerry west. besides if you want the air jordan symbol on your clothes go buy air jordan products. ya cant buy jerry west products. leave it as it is

  • @tt09291979 Jerry was the best SG in NBA history when the logo was made.... before MJ came on the scene.Do your research before you make silly comments.

  • hopefully george karl learned his lesson: never underestimate the power of the great michael jordan.

  • Jordan rule #1: Don't talk shit about Jordan, especially before you play him, if you can't back it up, which would be every time because Jordan will burn you on the court, where it all really matters.

  • that's what you get for fucking with MJ23 "the real23"

  • george karl definately learned not to underestimate the god's wrath... if a player ever learned something in the jordan era, its was to not challenge jordan... epecially off the court with ugly words... as it is seen what happens here muahaha.

  • Josette5 shut the hell up. First of all, Pippen handled the ball more than Jordan did. Secondly, Jordan didn't have Pau Gasol or Lamar Odom to dump the ball to but instead guys like Bill Wennington, Luc Longley, Dickey Simpkins and a 43 year old Robert Parish. Mike's assists were down some because, contrary to what Jordan haters believe, in the second three peat Pippen had the primary ball handling responsibility.

  • you forgot to mention Horace Grant (14 and 10 player, 5 time all-defensive teams, and at that point in his career an all-star) and Bill Cartwright (a former 20 and 8 player).

  • Dude....Cartwright was like 40 years old on the Bulls and his knees had been destroyed.

  • who still managed to avg around 10 and 8, and seeing as how he was about the 4th or 5th best player on the team at that point that isn't so bad.

  • do not talk with MJ before the game - its should be NBA rule:)

  • they did a good job on him in the nba finals a season ago, holding him to a finals low of 27.3 ppg.

  • Damn I love Kobe But how could you even say that he is better than MIKE makes no sense

  • what was this man thinking saying stuff like about MJ... dumbass lol

  • George Karl's teams always collapse and lack mental toughness. Most of the blame rests with his stupidity, as shown here.

  • George Karl got his ass owned by MJ

  • So did Mike Dunleavy, Rick Adelman, Jerry Sloan twice, Paul Westphal. LMFAO!!

  • speechless. How soon we forget how sweet his mid-range game/jumper was. I miss this...

  • If you want to see what a mid-range game is just watch tthis MJ game. He put on a superb mid-range game against the sonics right here.

  • michael is the best..my favourite player..im italian..but i like basketball...beautiful..w ichael

  • just dont make the man angry

  • fucking useless sonics

  • I think G. Karl learned his lesson.

  • Greatest player ever dominated in the greatest basketball era of all time.Played against the best ever and he still was hands down better than anybody in the league every year.

  • hmm just ajumpshooter?

Mj only drives when he has too

    His IQ is god like

  • That shot at 3:50 is just insane! I mean how?

  • at 5:29.."Jordan, eluding Ehlo."

when the hell was Craig Ehlo gonna learn..he couldn't guard Michael Jordan..

  • everybody has to learn that in that time, MJ was UNTOUCHABLE.

  • very true

  • not even "the glove" could cover the GOAT

  • yo royalx cut it out w the nigga..u may use it but not 4 jordan u stupid degenerate i hope i see u so i can spit in ur face..anyone disagree w this kid???this is jordan not royalx's crackpot friend

  • LOL @ a form jump shot from 45 feet.

    That dude was ridiculous.

  • this Super Ni99a shot a jump shot from half court wit ease!

  • good God, mostly with jumpers, good God

  • This is like watching one player against five . . . and making it look easy.

  • funny how aound the 5:40 mark mj makes a shot over detlef fried shrimp then he looks at george carl like thats right...then carl puts gary payton, almost instantly, who has a kinda smirk on his face like i got this coach...the result?..another fadeaway on that ass.. Mj just the greatest. nuff said

  • That opening frame has GP looking like Mike's baby brother playing him one on one.

  • If you have a shot as efficient as Jordan's why bother penetrating the paint. You will just end up wasting twice as much energy. That's just playing smart. Besides, I dont think he needed to be aggresive in a game like this.

  • mj averaged 3 point somethin assist that year and they still didn't call him a ballhog i think that is a ball hog if u r not a center

  • I guess u must think wonders of your beloved Kobe Bryant u nuthugger

  • u stupid bitch who brought kobe in the situation

  • Everyone knows you're a kobe nuthugger dude, i've seen some of your comments "if u put kobe in jordans era he would be the greatest.." yup u said that. So when u come here callin MJ a ballhog its easy to see u have an agenda. So get lost u punk

  • clap clap *

  • and they still won a championship!!!!! huh go figure

  • No he didn't. He averaged 6 assists.

  • in the

    95-96 he averaged 4.3apg

    96-97 he averaged 4.3apg

    97-98 he averaged 3.5apg

IF U DON'T BELEIVE ME LOOK IT UP

  • still doesnt prove ur point...i actually watched every game those three seasons....he passed it a good bit...if u had watched it u would have known that too...each yr the team struggled more and was plagued by injury so yeh..of course his assists will go down...so did his scoreing..his minutes decreased as well...see the pattern..good..now go fuck yourself and tell kobe i said real men will take it to the rack

  • that is a 1000% correct kobe will never be MJ

  • Best thing about Jordan, he was the best, he knew it, yet he didn't feel the need to pound his chest after each and every play or point he scroed unlike today's athletes

  • an easy 45

  • The half-court shot and then jumpers, taking kids to school, his game never changes. Tore up Seattle!!!

  • 5:28 "jordan eluding ehlo" how many times has that been said? lol

  • Jesus! Good GOD Almighty! MJ show Coach Karl no respect.

  • Karl was talkin out of his ass and MJ set him straight, nothing wrong with that

  • John stockton is one of the best passers of all time but i'm sorry he could not guard jordan if the game depended on it as proof has shown us.

  • yeah, but who could guard MJ?

  • The answer is nobody could guard MJ. Different teams in the 80,90's tried to stop, hold, and punish MJ. It never worked out. MJ elevated his game to another level and ABLE answer every single challenge! Jerald wilkin, John Starks, Joe Dumars, Knicks, Pistons. Taller defender: Dennis Rodman, Stacy Augment, etc. Stronger defender: Jerald Wilkin, Anthony Mason, etc. Shorter/quicker defender: Chris Child, John Stacks, Joe Dumars, Gary Payton, etc.

  • gary payton is arguablly the greatest perimeter defender of all-time. he's the only guard other then jordan to ever win defensive player of the year and jordan just abused him.

  • Gary Payton's the only guard other than MJ to win the Def Player Of The Year?

    No he's not!

Sidney Moncrief won Def Player Of The Year Back 2 Back years in the 2 years BEFORE MJ came into the league & Alvin Robertson won it in '86!

Both of those guys were INCREDIBLE Perimeter Defenders..

Man..U kids today really are clueless about anything older than 5 yrs ago LOL!!

    That's ridiculous..

  • school these kids LOL

  • I just with the Bulls of the 90's got to play in the 80's with the Lakers,Celtics,76ers, Bucks circa 1980-1987

  • Like I said...the information is out there for kids to read, but they just won't do it. Plus like I said to the guy above...Michael Jordan would probably award that honor to Joe Dumars. Joe Dumars was probably one of the toughest defending guard that Jordan faced.

  • what about john starks? MJ did have huge games against those two.. they punded him all the time..

  • Pounding someone doesn't always equate to good defense. Dumars was an extremely good defender without having to resort to knocking someone on their ass. Even Jordan said that Dumars was one of the best.

  • No no... is John Starks the best defender on Jordan

  • man jordan use to straight dog john starks ass all over the court!!!!

  • Michael Jordan would probably award that honor to Joe Dumars.

  • Awesome ......!!!

  • calling out jordan, looking jordan in the eye, or anything challenging this guy...is like commiting suicide on the court, hes gunna take heart hands down and tell u about while hes doin it,

I love tha last 3 shots where hes ripping em and talkin shit to tha sonics bench

  • the half court shot was sick

  • what does it means "con man" ?

    thanks

  • a fake

  • thanks....a few weeks ago, I think was in wikipedia, I read about "confidence man" and other things like that...

    ....thanks anyway...

    go LAKERS go....Gaaaaasol

  • George Karl... seems like a name you would try to mention before you slip up and mention George Carlin's name

  • George Karl, you have lost your damn mind!!!!! MJ abused y'all like cookies on ice. 45 PTS, dammmmmmmmmmmmmmn!!!!

  • That dude is a goal machine. Whenever he shoots, wherever he shoots, however he shoots, it's already in the lim.

  • George Karl is a fukin idiot!!! why would u piss of Jordan right before the game??

  • Now that was an awesome performance.

  • Gary Payton has to be one of the ten best perimiter defenders of all time. MJ is 34 here, Payton is in his athletic prime, and MJ just abuses him.

Of course he's shooting jump shots. What's amazing is that he could dominate the game as a guard without all the drives and dunks he used to humiliate the league in his 20's.

  • If memory serves, this was also the Shawn Kemp hangover game.

  • Sorry...I do not what are you talking about...what was "Shawn Kemp Hangover"...would be so kind to tell me?

  • George Karl is a fucking idiot if he really said that shit. Why would you even want to piss Jordan off right before a game. You know all he is going to do is use that to put on his locker and fuck you in the end!!!! Dumb Ass

  • You said Jordan had words for Karl after the game... What were those words?

  • such an effortless performance.. thanx for posting!!

  • ofcourse he didnt want to get hurt...ei man, he was 34 old... but still the same MJ like allways

  • To mtshisimbi: Many People Jumped Higher And Ran Faster? In His Prime? How Many? I've Seen Jordan Run From End To End Just As Fast As Anybody (Quickest First Step)Jordan Was Great Because He Was The Best Athletically And Mentally...He Went From End To End Just As Fast Or Faster Than Anyone One The Court In His Prime.

  • Sonics' fans should be happy that Karl motivated MJ or they wouldn't have seen such a stellar performance.

  • hey hoops,,any FULL game of MJ as a BULL?

  • A killer. This guy did it every game

  • Alot of players take the same type of jump shots that jordan did, but they dont even hit half of them, and why is that ? Jordan work ethic was and is uncompable.

  • Of course the elevation and separation didn't hurt. Elite athleticism gives the skill a nice advantage.

  • There are a lot of guys who could run faster and jump higher than Jordan - athleticism is only a small factor. Practice, dedication and mental strenght were the key to his success.

  • no his athleticism was a big part...but his will to win his overall skill and mental determination and competitiveness is what made a guy who would take ur heart and soul at anytime during a game.

  • MJ is a fucking robot.

  • Hoops, do you have any of the NBA Finals games from when he played in the finals, preferrably Games 2 or 3???

  • Against Payton and the Sonics.

  • It should be noted that not only is Jordan the best playoff performer in NBA history, he is also BY FAR the best road performer in history. His legendary exploits on the road are myriad. And really, only 3-4 players in history are even in his stratosphere as playoff performers (Shaq, West, Magic, and Bird).

  • You should add Hakeem to that list.

  • the statement road game....my fav type of MJ game....i was always more fond of MJ's road games...there's just something about the red and black uniform that made it more dramatic...not to mention fans booing and then silencing after MJ would nail a shot...classic

  • if he wants to beat you he will! even at your home court!

  • When will they ever learn? Don't say anything.., keep your comments to yourself and maybe MJ will only get 40!

  • Wow love this game, MJ had something for everybody, and George Karl was no exception

  • Nice double pump at 3:51

  • DETLEF

  • He has without a doubt the most beautiful jumper in NBA history

  • Nobody did it better. Ever.

  • He did GP DIRTY!!!!

  • Whether it was good looks or tough shots at the basket they all looked simple. No doubting No.23 was not only the master of improvisation, but also simplicity aswell.

  • Love the mid court shot, look at his pose even from that distance. Man he was flawless. And that hang time on the jump shot at 4:00, u just gotta love his game.

  • SEATTLE (AP) - George Karl lost a psychological battle with Michael Jordan, too.

Trying to challenge Jordan's pride, the Seattle SuperSonics coach said this week Jordan was afraid to go to the basket and was trying to protect himself in the latter stages of his career.

"I'm not scared to go anywhere on the court," said Jordan, who poured in 45 points to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 91-84 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Sunday.

  • "When teams give me the jump shot, I'll take it," Jordan said. "If they take away the lanes, I'll go for the jump shot."

A somber Karl tried to back away from his pregame comments about Jordan.

"I never tried to get into his head," he said. "I said Michael is a great jump shooter, which he is. I've never said anything derogatory about him. He's a great player."

  • Jordan's teammates had some advice for Karl.

"If I was coach Karl, I'd be quiet," Ron Harper said. "To say anything about Michael's game is ridiculous."

Said Hersey Hawkins of the Sonics: "Yeah, he is shooting a lot more jump shots. But he's making them."

Seattle's Gary Payton wasn't around to talk about the game afterward, but before the game said it didn't pay to talk about - or to - Jordan.

"If you try to get into his head, instead of 25 he'll get 50," he said.

  • "The other guys (Scottie Pippen and Toni Kukoc) couldn't get into a rhythm so I took it upon myself to be more aggressive," Jordan said.

"You saw one guy out there who was awesome," Harper said. "He was all by himself doing his thing out there."

  • After the game, Karl could not remember his quote regarding Jordan. In fact, he sounded remorseful in his response when asked if he regretted saying anything that inspired Jordan against the Sonics.

"If I did that, I'm disappointed," Karl said. "But I don't think I've ever said a critical word of Michael Jordan. I don't know what was in USA Today. The only thing I said was that it seems like he's a jump shooter a little bit more than in the past."
