I completely disagree with the Strategy game category. I have been a CIV fan for years, but CIV IV is THE WORST CIV game in the series since CIV II. They stripped away all the fun and interesting features from CIV IV and streamlined it for a mass audience. I used to be completely addicted to CIV III and CIV IV, playing it for hours without sleep. With CIV IV, I found myself completely bored of it just after two marathon setting playthroughs. I haven't touched my CIV IV ever since.

I'm sorry but from PERSONAL experience, I don't think New Vegas deserves any awards. It was the buggiest fucking game I have ever played in my life. The loading screens were ridiculous. I'm sorry but I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas was a disappointment for me.

@Uberslick Yea, I tried the game today and after all the patches this game is a much better experience. However the loading is still kind of annoying and the bugs in Fallout 3 were much more minor compared to this, but like I said the patches make it great

Amnesia & Heavy Rain was awesome!

Fallout New vegas was a major dissapointment of lousy work. Bugged to shit, totally halfassed work, bad dialogues etc.

I so want to find a gaming site that tells it as it is. Elder Geeks comes the closest, but it still can say Mass Effect 2 had most of the RPG taken out of it, and then name it RPG of the year! Also, they dilute the format choices by choosing multiformat titles. Surely PC, PS3 or 360 choice should be PC ONLY, PS3 ONLY and 360 ONLY titles and should exclude the multiformat titles! One day I may find a site that does it right, but not today.

This is a terrible game of the year awards video, how the hell can you put Red Dead Redemption, God of War and Heavy rain in the same category. They are entirely different games! One is a open third person shooter, another is a hack n slash and the last is an interactive drama, labelling games under the term 'adventure' accounts for like 80% of all games.

They think, okay to review this game i'll just have to complete that campaign and thats it and maybe play a couple of matches online. So most reviewers don't go into detail with the multi player! So even though the single player is good the online part is the stuff of legends.

Although most mainstream reviewers do take online into account, I see many independent reviewers simply disregard the online because they're 'not into it' and it's BS. It doesn't matter whether or not you enjoy it or are good at it, it's not a review of the full game if it's left out.

But plenty of people still do with the original Starcraft. Because it's a tight game with amazing gameplay that doesn't require fancy graphics to sell!

@LiamNeesonsDick I think youre right at that point. Strategy just isn't a mainstream genre anymore like it was back in the days. So it's pretty amazing that a game like starcraft has gotten such a broadway appeal in times where the genre is practicly dead.

Exactly the problem, Starcraft 2 is a pinnacle for strategy games with depth making a comeback, Civilization V is simplified to cater to a larger crowd. Sure, it did that well, but I rather III and IV.

My personal favorite is Civ 3, but I felt that Civ IV worked well as both a game with depth and a game that you could pick up and play. Something that's been hampering the series since the first is the way the countries AI works.

But honestly, you have a point. The fact that Bayonetta wasn't ever mentioned in the action/adventure genre (and really, those shouldn't ever be mashed together lest you compare the likes of GOW3 and RDR against each other), while being the best action game I have played (period), speaks volumes.

A bit happy about the BC2 mention. Best multiplayer shooter at the moment.

The gunplay in Vanquish, Resonance of Fate, and Bayonetta were all absolutely incredible.

Though the 'gunplay' in Bayonetta was obviously very different, guns were used nonetheless.

I didn't complain about Bayonetta because it at least got a video clip of it, but yeah, it deserves more credit.

It's not just about a giant lady taking off a leather jumpsuit made of hair, it's also got amazing combat.

For games that are of such high quality, which they are, it's pretty sad that Elder Geek goes out of their way to find the unappreciated (didn't really show in this video either) and leaves out those gems. Regardless of their opinions, if what they want is to show unpopular games to people that deserve more attention, they're barely achieving that with these GOTYs.

I have played a lot of FPSes this year and seeing what Activision is doing with COD series and reading reviews of BC2, I thought, buying it would be a good idea... and the game turned out to be one of the most frustrating, camper-friendly games that I really regret buying. And nope, I am not a huge fan of COD series - the last one I played was COD4... and it isn't just only my problem - some of my friends had very similar reaction.
