  • He had a great punk look even without mohawks etc.

  • If you listen to Black and White album, Jet has to reverse his bass drum to snare pattern at the opening to Death and night and blood, listen very carefully, I spotted this back in 78.

  • 0:21 what song is that?

  • @karamuH "Curfew" from the Black And White album.

  • That's one truly cool bastard, right there.

  • @highschoolmusical841 better learn to type english first so i can understand you, also nice screen name . youre probably just a 12 year old who dosen't know shit about music

  • Thats aload of shit when he said 'the 1980's the band were more natourios than successful' teh 80's was when they had all the hits like golden brown/skin deep/no mercy ect

  • @george1punk2 not as much as the clash who were really in it for the money. thats why there overrated. so fuck you wanker

  • der typ hat mich zum punk-rock gebracht und - später - zum bass-spielen.

  • joy division's bass is quite leading as well

  • Met him briefly last week after a gig. Despite being tired he was happy to talk with me awhile. Mentioned that I'd first seen them in '77 which made him smile. Came across as a warm, genuine guy. This band were so important to me as a 14 yr old just hitting out on life. Shit hot then and now!!!!! Go JJ!!

  • one tough SOB

  • wish he'd kick the shit out of LG's arse... What a head line !" Old strangler kicks shit out of ex oasis tamborine player wanna be hard man "

  • hes wearing a triumph top!! I saw him two days ago at Triumph Live!! How cool

  • well i certainly consider myself a punk! FUCKIN LOVE HIM! the stranglers are soo underrated........if i was a teacher.....id prepare a history lesson on the stuff theyve taught me..............inspirational band! GODBLESS THEMENINBLACKXXX

  • god speaks!!!!!!!!

  • @george1punk2 BOLLOCKS!

  • @heston99 oooh thanks heston99 , where do you live ? ha ha

  • @heston99 i knew him for 10 years. he was highly intelligent and thoughtful guy. he was also very kind with great integrity.

  • befriended the stranglers in 1978 and spent some great times with them over a ten year period. they were a most interesting and friendly bunch of guys , the stage persona belies what they really are, men of great intelligence. i was 1 16 yr old dewy eyed girl infatuated with jj, but he was nothing but charm and decorun personifed. now i am a 48 year old woman , still infatuated with jj. he just gets better with age.

  • that i/view was with a wanker journo from Australia's "Current Affairs "" program they also mentioned they spent their money on drugs and just took the piss, of course all the media straights were outraged!!!go Stranglers and JJB

  • @george1punk2 fuck off you twat!

  • an amazing lover, an amazing fighter, god (according to a5kevin), the "best bass player in the world" --- sonds like you are talking of a fucking champion one would like to smack in the gob---

OH! you mean just good old rat-walking jean jaques burnel,---

  • West London boy...top man

  • Oh west london....is wonderful lol

  • There were a lot of Chelsea supporters at Stranglers gigs, back in the good old days when we were losing 6-0 to Rotherham and playin in front of 11,000 every week.

    There's obvious parallells why.

We were aggresive, beligerant, funny and just different to the rest . . . . and still are!

P.S. North West London. . . . always was, and always will be the best part of London

  • Terrific Bass player. He's a tough cookie too.

  • The best and coolest bass player ever. Stranglers are probably the only band where the bass is the lead instrument.

  • @b00mhauer

    errr.......New Order?

  • @b00mhauer Primus mate,Primus bass the fuck out of Stranglers

  • @b00mhauer primus for 1 but yeah hes pretty cool

  • @b00mhauer

"A" lead instrument. JJ is ace for sure, but don't forget Hugh & Dave when it comes to lead instruments - all had their turn and did it exceptionally...Pity Hugh isn't still in The Stranglers.

  • @b00mhauer Errr ever heard of New Order, Joy Division etc?????

  • Hes still famous.

  • I'm glad you said that. I never understood why he was on this particular show. It's not as if he was forced to sell his Fenders and got a 'proper' job cos people stopped turning up at their gigs. Of course he's not in 'Heat' magazine every five minutes and that does seem to be the modern yardstick for 'fame' these days. Gawd 'elp us all...

  • I think the voice over is done by that famous kiddie fiddling, granny favourite Mathew Kelly. How better to kill off the legend of the Stranglers.

  • It's called Curfew and appears on the album Black and White.

  • gogo jj. fuckin legend!

  • i always had a soft spot for hugh ,hes the main man not jjb !

  • Hugh was probably approached to do this programme but he's disassociated himself with the Stranglers. Also, I don't think Hugh would have appeared anyway as his high opinion of himself wouldn't allow the admission that he's not famous anymore.

  • I used to train with him when he had his Shidokan Club in Huntingdon. The guy is a legend.

  • hes cool. why the fk did i think he was french? i remember his solo effort freddie laker, loved it at the time, 79 i think

  • locorojo25 - You thought he was French because of his French name Jean-Jacques Burnel, or it may have been because his parents are French, or maybe because he sang a few songs in French !!

So you would be well excused for thinking that, i guess all of the above would make him Anglo-French, as he was born in London.

    Great bass player.

  • jj hasnt really aged much at all...respect!
