If you listen to Black and White album, Jet has to reverse his bass drum to snare pattern at the opening to Death and night and blood, listen very carefully, I spotted this back in 78.
@highschoolmusical841 better learn to type english first so i can understand you, also nice screen name . youre probably just a 12 year old who dosen't know shit about music
yes JJ is still into bikes was chatting to him about bikes last night after gig at Oxford academy - he has 3 triumphs; RS Sprint, Tiger and Scrambler.....I guess being a shit hot bass player in a band that have endured into 5 decades now must pay ok ;-) oh and what a lovely bloke

Thats aload of shit when he said 'the 1980's the band were more natourios than successful' teh 80's was when they had all the hits like golden brown/skin deep/no mercy ect
Met him briefly last week after a gig. Despite being tired he was happy to talk with me awhile. Mentioned that I'd first seen them in '77 which made him smile. Came across as a warm, genuine guy. This band were so important to me as a 14 yr old just hitting out on life. Shit hot then and now!!!!! Go JJ!!
well i certainly consider myself a punk! FUCKIN LOVE HIM! the stranglers are soo underrated........if i was a teacher.....id prepare a history lesson on the stuff theyve taught me..............inspirational band! GODBLESS THEMENINBLACKXXX
befriended the stranglers in 1978 and spent some great times with them over a ten year period. they were a most interesting and friendly bunch of guys , the stage persona belies what they really are, men of great intelligence. i was 1 16 yr old dewy eyed girl infatuated with jj, but he was nothing but charm and decorun personifed. now i am a 48 year old woman , still infatuated with jj. he just gets better with age.
that i/view was with a wanker journo from Australia's "Current Affairs "" program they also mentioned they spent their money on drugs and just took the piss, of course all the media straights were outraged!!!go Stranglers and JJB
an amazing lover, an amazing fighter, god (according to a5kevin), the "best bass player in the world" --- sonds like you are talking of a fucking champion one would like to smack in the gob---
OH! you mean just good old rat-walking jean jaques burnel,---
There were a lot of Chelsea supporters at Stranglers gigs, back in the good old days when we were losing 6-0 to Rotherham and playin in front of 11,000 every week.
There's obvious parallells why.
We were aggresive, beligerant, funny and just different to the rest . . . . and still are!
P.S. North West London. . . . always was, and always will be the best part of London
"A" lead instrument. JJ is ace for sure, but don't forget Hugh & Dave when it comes to lead instruments - all had their turn and did it exceptionally...Pity Hugh isn't still in The Stranglers.
I'm glad you said that. I never understood why he was on this particular show. It's not as if he was forced to sell his Fenders and got a 'proper' job cos people stopped turning up at their gigs. Of course he's not in 'Heat' magazine every five minutes and that does seem to be the modern yardstick for 'fame' these days. Gawd 'elp us all...
Hugh was probably approached to do this programme but he's disassociated himself with the Stranglers. Also, I don't think Hugh would have appeared anyway as his high opinion of himself wouldn't allow the admission that he's not famous anymore.
locorojo25 - You thought he was French because of his French name Jean-Jacques Burnel, or it may have been because his parents are French, or maybe because he sang a few songs in French !!
So you would be well excused for thinking that, i guess all of the above would make him Anglo-French, as he was born in London.
He had a great punk look even without mohawks etc.

I think the voice over is done by that famous kiddie fiddling, granny favourite Mathew Kelly. How better to kill off the legend of the Stranglers.
