Just because Mr. Pride is not white does not give other negroes the right to condemn him and accuse him of being a "whitey". Such ignorance. Tom Jones is a white guy from the State of WALES who sings like a black man. But nobody in Mr. Jones' native State calls him names. Both men were born to sing the way God wished to to sing. People, usually men, who condemn the two afore-mentioned men are probably JEALOUS of them.
Lovely voice nothing has changed, I listened to Charlie as a little girl in the Bahamas, and still do now as a grown woman and still living in the Bahamas
back in the late 60's had his old eight track tapes and a player my step dad gave me. kept in a suit case outside. had a car battery on the ground. man i was jamming and did not know it lol. had fun back then with nothing and thought i had it all.
Yes, love JR's version and Charley's version equally. It touches close to home for me. Her name wasn't Mary, but she wouldn't and I almost didn't make it back.....and she still wouldn't. That was a long time ago. I won't often listen to this song.
This is not the original version.. I love Charley,,but his original version is frescher..That was so good with the old Charley,,before the studios changed, and added,,natural fresh, woise...look it up, the original from the album Country Charley pride...it is even better
Oh Charlie Oh Charlie what a voice.. thanx for enriching our lives with your music & Alan thanx for sharing. (how about Charlie's Christmas In My Hometown..could u share that song if u have it)
Charlie Pride is definitely one of the best and most popular country artists of all time. At one time in my younger years, I had EVERY album that he released and knew 99 % of all the lyrics to his songs. I remember sitting in the living room and listening for hours on end to him and Lynn Anderson and Floyd Cramer among others. This is a wonderflu trip dowm " Memory Lane " for me.
I remember wearing out the 8-Track with this song on it. Believe it was about 1969-1970 when we bought this tape. Although I do have to say that this version of the song is not from that album, this is a remake. I listened to that tape so much that every song on there is engrained into my brain. You can tell that Charley's vocals ,on this version, are not the same as when he cut this album.
