Detroit, terra dos gangsters, dos automóveis, da Motow, de Marvin Gaye, uma cidade que Sammy adorava de paixão !!! Salve Sammy - Salve Detroit !!! Ivan Bocalon
This song kinda brings a tear to your eye. It's a Detroit thing. You wouldn't understand. With so much negative press about Detroit, this song makes me proud to be born here. DETROIT, STAND UP!!! Let's get 'em, Lions.
I´m from São Paulo - Brasil and I´ve never known Detroit!... but this song makes me chills, and urge to dance... it makes me happy! And I really don´t know why... God bless Detroit!
Sammy Davis Jr, cantando um verdadeiro hino à Detroit !!! Terra dos automóveis e da Motown !!! Linda canção !!! Ficou maravilhosa em sua fantástica apresentação !
This is really a great song for Detroit. I remember years ago, a DJ Mason & Company used to play this song each morning. The song used to energize me for work in the morning as was employed with one of the fabulous downtown law firms. The economy was booming, I was making good money. I had my own place. Wow! Thanks to the late great Sammy Davis Jr. for reviving Detroit's name.
The only couple of times I've heard this song performed is by the "Blue Pigs" (Detroit Police Dept. singing group) in Detroit's Thanksgiving Parade, and by the Southfield High marching band at the Tigers' Playoff Rally in 2006.
I have the album 12" version. I also have the Master Rythum sheet scored by Gene Page that was used for the foundation of the arrangement. I'll post it. Not an easy song in his key but I can handle it.
I Love this song!!! My alarm clock was set to this song, when I was in high school. Every morning Mason in the mornings. Those were the days!! And even as an young adult I'd play it in the car on my way to work. Thanks for posting this song!!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! This brings back sooooo many wonderfull memories of my childhood growing up in The Motor City!!!!! The memories were all positive, I think all Detroiters should listen to this, all though its a song from the past it could be a tool of inspiration as of what we the people of and the city of Detroit can become again, we were there at a time!!!! Every body famous people and us common folk wanted to be apart of this thing of ours, home of Motown Music, the big 3

Used to listen to this song out in the California Desert at night with my friends. Just seemed to fit.......Sammy's the absolute righteous dude. He's the man...
Wow im from detroit I remember the KISS station would play this every morning at 6am in Detroit...wow I miss home sometimes....WADDUP TO THE D!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like a forlorn lover i will always love Detroit and even though i have a new love being here in Charlotte nothing can compare to the really nice things about The Grand Dame, The lady forever, Detroit,,,,,,,,i miss her,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I don't know how they're going to do it, but I'm CERTAIN that Detroiters, real Detroiters will survive this recession and the depression it brings to "The D" !! I've lived in many cities, but Detroit will always have a special place in my heart. East Side FA LIFE!!
What album is this from? Or is this a promotional single? The only other place I've heard this song is the opening to "Frank, Liza and Sammy: The Ultimate Event."
i love this song, but it doesnt describe anything about Detroit. It sounds like it was originally a love song about a woman, then they just changed the name to pitch an idea. They wrote a song about a place without describing the place at all.

Yes I love this song. I remember Mason in the morning @ 6:00 a.m. what a wonderful way to wake up in the morning! Thank you sooo much for posting this song. What's Up Detroit!!!!!!
Grew up in Jackson(Prison City) and WJLB - FM 97.9(Detroit) would play this at 6am when Mason in the morning came on . Memories from the early 80s . I'm old
I remember waking up to this song too...Mason in the morning.But...I'm not old.I'm just well seasoned, and like a fine wine, baby I got better with time.Deeeeeeeeeetroit!!!!!
Yeah because the city that helped the USA win WW2 with the mass production of tanks, put the world on wheels, and gave the musical wonders of Motown doesn't deserve a classic such as this...yeah. Made be proud to be from Detroit!
The traditional home of the auto industry, the birthplace of Motown Records and the home of "The Brown Bomber" Joe Louis doesn't deserve a simple pop song?
This brings back so many memories of been woke up 2 this every morning b4 school @ 6am on the mason morning show on fm 98 WJLB.......
