  • Mr. Sterling bears a striking resemblance to Robert Culp of "I Spy" and "The Greatest American Hero" fame! Married a long time to Ms. Jeffreys, 55 years!!! :)

  • Anne Jeffreys is still gorgeous and they were such an amazing couple! Love this show. Great episode.

  • Bob Sterling reminds me of Gig Young

  • Thank God! Ms.Jeffries is still with us.

  • "Is one a girl and one a boy?"

    Oh boy!

  • The expression on Dorothy's face when she answers Bennett's question about Liberace being married is priceless!

  • What a class act they were! Thx for posting this from a Topper fan.

  • Accomplished Soprano and actress, and Robert Sterling as an actor, they did make a great duo.

  • @franklindavid They were married for nearly 55 years, until Sterling's death in 2006. I saw a recent photo of Anne Jeffreys, and you would never believe that she's nearly 88. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • Dear Rentatrip, The real name of"Neil The Drunk St.Berndard Dog"was "Bucky"

    ..Believe It Or Else?!

  • The host to said ghosts ...Topper... delightful TV comedy - who can forget "NEIL" the martini drinking invisible huge Saint Brenard dog?

  • wasn't Robert Sterling once married to Ann Southern?

  • Actually, the question was about both of them singing, and the answer by Sterling was "yes".

  • It's bad enough that Daly got the name of the show wrong at least twice - including "Mr. and Mrs. Topper", but did he really say "Mr. and Mrs. South" at 7:33 ?

  • @63utuber yup he sure did

  • Interesting that Anne is blond here, but not in the Topper episode I've seen on youtube.

  • It's hard to decide who is more gorgeous, Robert or Anne!

  • Wow...The Toppers was my first FAVORITE TV show as a kid...I got sad thinking that they were real ghost and had already passed away...beautiful couple...

  • I grew up watching these two wonderful performers on

The Topper TV Show on WNEW TV Ch.5 in NYC back in

the late 1950's..BTW:They played The Kerbys..not the

    Toppers.

  • Phil Rizzuto was a spokesman for I believe, an Auto Insurance Co. on local L.A. television in the 70's/ 80's. Had it not been for the other comments here, I would never have recognized him! Sterling also appeared, quite memorably, opposite Garbo, in her last film 1941's "Two-Faced Woman", and what is really weird is that Constance Bennett and Roland Young are in the same scene as Sterling! I knew Bob's daughter Tisha (I think her name was) years-ago.

  • It was "The Money Store", a lending company.

  • She was on General Hospital. He was on the Twilight Zone. They were very hip and sexy and sophisticated. No one like them now. Thanks for the post!

  • Both Robert Sterling and Anne Jeffries started in films. Neither of them made it to "A" status, although Robert Sterling did a nice in "The Secret Heart" (1946, as June Allyson's brother) and in "Somewhere I'll Find You" (1942, I believe, and starring Lana Turner and Clark Gable). Anne Jeffries is a wonderful woman who has done tons of humanitarian work.

  • THANKS! The ghosts of TV's "Topper" return! Robert, that most sporty of spirits. Anne, a wonderful star who always said she did her best work on stage, in musicals. Nice people; you can see their ease and grace even in a game show. And Holy Cow, Rizzuto too!

  • GSN rebroadcast this on 16 Nov 2008. It featured

Phil after broadcasting a record length BaseB game

Ft. Lauderdale, Florida lady chiropractor with showbiz ties

    a lie detector machine operator

mystery guests Sterling & Jeffreys. I'd never heard of them; but they are amusing.

All hail Kilgallen! She identifed the chiropractor, gets howls of laughter (BC to DK Liberace Married? DK No! shaking head?), whispers identity in BC ear.

Phil is great. Fates should have used him more often.

  • When did this episode air? 1957?

  • This episode play just last night on GSN.

  • This particular episode aired just early this morning...3AM Eastern.

This would be Phil Rizzuto's last panel appearance and wouldn't return until 1969 whne he made his second mystery guest appearnce on the syndicated color version of WML with Wally Brunner.

  • Robert Sterling and Anne Jeffreys were married in 1951, and the marriage lasted a happy 55 years until Sterling died in 2006. Anne Jeffreys is from what I read on the Internet still around at age 85.

  • she turned 86 in january and occasionally works and makes public appearances. i'm sure if you did an image search, you'd find many recent photos of her. :)

  • I did that search, and found she's still looking great!

  • Razutto appeared as WML's first mystery guest (Feb 1950) and appeared as a mystery guest for WML's 20th anniversary week (Feb 1970). This is roughly the period when he began his long glittering broadcast career, and for whatever reason WML used him only a few times. I would have used him more often.

  • Since Rizutto was the first WML mystery guest, why didn't he appear with the first program's contestants on the last CBS "What's My Line" on September 3, 1967? He was an announcer with the Yankees in 1967, but the Yankees were at home that afternoon and weren't leaving on a road trip for another few days. Personable guy, even if he wasn't the best questioner in this clip.

  • I don't know. He could have done a cameo in the last broadcast. The producers really wanted to use Daly as the last mystery guest

  • I was thinking of Rizzuto strictly as a cameo. Not in the least as a mystery guest. As a mystery guest, especially after the first show's contestants had been on, Rizzuto's appearance would have been a bit obvious.

  • That was a year after this episode, Rizzuto was hired by CBS radio to do sports. Did did an evening sports report called "It's Sports Time" on the CBS Radio Network. His report lasted until I believe 1973 when he left to concentrate on the Yankees only. BTW, Rizzuto would be replaced by Brent Musburger.

  • WML was always at its most amusing when the panel is lost in space. I had never heard of this couple, but they are amusing for sure.

  • They appeared together fairly often -- more than most married theatrical couples did. I don't know whether Topper is on YouTube, but it's worth pursuing.

  • Topper was on TV quite a bit in reruns in the 60s, and I liked it quite a bit. Anne Jeffreys and Robert Sterling played George and Marion Kerby, the ghosts who only Topper (Leo G. Carroll) could see. From the movie of the same name from the 1930s (with Constance Bennett and Cary Grant as the ghosts, and Roland young as Topper).

  • thanx for the info. I didn't know this couple from Adam's odd oxes.
