i have a 4.3 looking to save up to switch out for gibson exhaust and probably a magnaflow catalyc converter like you said, its not really worth the risk of the fine for an extra $200
Because it's illegal, and most exhaust shops don't let you just gut the cat before they weld up the new exhaust. Plus if the exhaust shop saw it was gutted they'd end up replacing it anyways...for all they know I might be an undercover EPA inspector seeing if they're going to fix it correctly or let it roll out of the shop as a polluter. It's not worth a $10k + fine to the exhaust shop, especially when there's a sign posted that says 'don't ask us to remove or gut your catalytic converter',
@meangreen69Nova A- who cares if its illegal, once its welded up they cant see in there and there not gunna cut it open to check B- weld it yourself and save money and not have to worry about some hippie epa bs C- i dont let signs tell me what to do
@86chevy A. The smog police care, as well as the exhaust shop not wanting to be slapped with a fine. B. I didn't have access to a welder at the time. C. Because of A and B I didn't have much choice. Besides I doubt I would have gained much, if anything with a gutted cat as opposed to a high flow cat. Not on a 2.8 liter anyways.
i have one of them! mine started out with a 2.8 and a 5 speed and now its a 4.3 with a s50 turbo trans in it. it dose a lil under 15 seconds in a quarter mile!! these are fun lil trucks!
Also for those interested, this S-10 still has the original stock exhaust manifolds and original stock Y pipe.
The aftermarket catalytic converter is welded onto the end of the stock original Y pipe, and the single 2.5 inch exhaust is connected to the aftermarket catalytic converter.
Yes I am sure mine is not a 4.3 litre. I've owned both a 4.3 litre S-10 and a 2.8 litre S-10. The 2.8 litre is smaller in size (physically) than the 4.3 litre and makes considerably less power than what the 4.3 does.
mpg with this arrangement?

Putting a Z24 in it???
"Z24" is an RPO code for a sports package on the Cavalier.
What exactly are you trying to say? I'm confused.

It's a single in, single out.

I just put 1 on my S10 2.8L 5 speed with headers and it sounds damn good. Puts those 4 banger rice tuners to shame thats for sure.
