@noizy4 Haha, thank you, I have moved since these videos and now have a music room, it is just not the same. I have to catch myself now from saying, "Welcome back to my bedroom", on my videos now.
@dalester82 Thank you very much, I do enjoy working on these synths very much, they can get a bit overwhelming at times, but it is unique and I do love the sounds.

I love this polymoog sound...but i have a problem.
For repair my polymoog, i need a substitution composants. Have you got ideas SYNTHPRO? ( integrate circuit "MM5823" and ''DM 7670'' for card) Thanks very much...
@nickon33 Yes, in my third video, (which is called synthpro's polymoog video # 3) I talk about this problem and I have a web address up as well. the name of the company is flat keys.
@synthpro Hi Jareth, I hope the restoration is going well!! I love that keyboard as I am a huge fan of Gary Numan. I always thought it was a synthesizer, since the sounds are so amazing. Vox Humana is probably one of the most incredible synth sounds ever. It sounds so mysterious and huge. Man your accent is so cool. You must be from the South or Texas or something. God Bless you brother!!!
Wow you know your stuff and as I say very interesting. How do you know what to look for what you've found wrong with it? My word very technical you are but I wouldn't know where to start so you've hit the jack pot as they say as you know what your talking about indeed so well done & good luck with it as it sounds like you're almost there. Cheers!
@bestrickie2 Thank you! Well, I can tell where some of the problems are by what it does. Once I troubleshoot then I start by testing the voltages first to make sure the circuit is getting the right amount of voltage and current. It is not always easy finding the problem on something this size, but once you get an understanding of what each circuit does, it makes it a little easier. The only problem when working on something as old as the polymoog is trying to find some of the parts.
@bestrickie2 I sure will. Right now I am rebuilding the Reference Oscillator board (TL board). I have a thermal short somewhere on the board and it burnt one of the AC filtering capacitors. I am going to go on and replace all the op amps, transistors, Phase lock loop IC's, and a few logic IC's. It should be very stable in tuning and have a lot cleaner sound. I rebuilt all the other boards, but this one still worked so I left it like it was.
Hi, I wish I was there to help you even if I fitted the covers on to the switches & so on but I would be no good at knowing what parts you'd need but I'd love to have helped you get it going again. Is it complete now? Cheers from Rich
Well done you've worked hard on it & just about there I see. Once you've got the Op oms you need it will be sorted for at least another 30 years or even more. Well done I'd love to have been there to see you revamp it & I'd love to have given you a hand but you'd have to keep me right as I wouldn't have a clue but WOW, I would be ever so interested. Cheers & well done again!
@bestrickie2 Thank you. Yes, it would have been neat if you could have given me a hand. I had one of my friends help me with it. He cleaned the inside while I worked on the electronics outside the unit. We had a good time.
Hi Jareth I though it was you. So have you finished brushing up the moog? Wow you know what you're doing & I'm sure it's paid off well. I'd love to see a video of the finished revamped moog & how you put the finishing touches to it & what parts you needed. Indeed you mentioned some of the new parts you needed & that were interesting. I look forward to future videos Cheers!
@bestrickie2 Yes, the only thing I am still having some trouble with is preset volumes. Some presets are louder than others, but I think it is just some bad Op amps. I have replaced a couple but I am just buying a few at a time. I do have another video on youtube of the restoration. type in Synthpro's polymoog (during restoration). I wrote the song on the polymoog.
Hi there is this Jareth Lackey? if so, hi its Rickie from the UK you've emailed a few times & it's a pleasure to have done so. Your brave attempting to restore the polly moog your got from ebay. Yes, that's one of the synths Gary Numan uses. I'd LOVE to get those sounds. As I was saying, I'm after a Juno G that has at least one of the sounds that's like what Gary uses. If this is Jareth then hi mate I email you soon, good luck with sorting that moog you know what your doing. Cheers!
@bestrickie2 Hi rickie. Yes, this is Jareth Lackey. Thank you, it is has been a pleasure talking to you as well. It did take a lot to restore this beast. It took me about three months to get this synth back in shape. It was a very challenging project.
This model was borne out of the Apollo, a model part of the Constellation group of synths Moog planned to release in 1974 (the others were the monophonic Lyra and the Taurus bass pedal synth; only the Taurus made the cut under its name).
@ClassicTVMan81 That is correct. Dr. Dave Luce was the engineer behind the polymoog. It came out in this order: Apollo prototype (Keith Emerson used on Brain Salad Surgery along with the Lyra), Polymoog synthesizer (203a), and the the Polymoog keyboard (280a). It is interesting to me because moog had so many design changes they had to make to the 203a.
You sir have great taste. May I ask if you are a prodoge of the Late Delia Derbyshire? John Baker? Silver Apples, White Noise, Broadcast, & have you heard of EMS Synths?
@therealKINDLE Thank you very very much! I do like the bands you brought up. Yes, I have heard of EMS. I would like to have a Synthi AKS or a VCS3. Those are neat little synths that can do some crazy stuff!
many years ago i had the chance of buying gary numan's polymoog keyboard-but was looking to get the polymoog synthesiser instead.. ended up with neither!! kicking myself for passing up the opportunity-i was/ am so dumb!! Ps i take my hat off to you, that looks quite some project- but well worth it- best of luck to you..
Thanks! Yes, it is a full keyboard, but it actually only has 72 keys. Ha, you like my Christmas lights. I put those up two years ago and liked them so much I just left them up. It gives the keyboards a nice glow.
I honestly never thought I would own one either. I had tried several times to win other ones off ebay, but I had no luck. Finally after years of bidding I got this one. I got it for $330.00. I would hate to have to pay someone by the hour to do everything I have done to this one. It would be a lot more than what I paid for the whole unit.
I have been thinking about one day starting up a vintage synth repair shop, but I am going to wait until I get through college. I would like to know a little more before working on someone else's vintage synth.
I do too. It was a lot better than having to start from scratch like you did on the minimoog model D. That is the next synth I am going to try to find.
Oh yes, Those are great synths! I would not mind having one of those as well. I have a Korg Radias which has a the best analog sound for a digital synth, but it is not a polysix.
Update, I got the schematics and got all the LEDs working for the VAR/PRE selector switches. I also re soldered all the joints on every board and am now getting a nice noise free sound. I am still working on the sustain problem.
nice to see you got your polymoog! btw, i doubt you'll find a 10kohm 'slide'. behind the slider is a potentiometer that adjusts the voltage/current. Is the slide actually broken or is it the potentiometer behind it? Pots are easy to find, but not quite sure they come in the same form-factor as they did in the 70's. Good luck!! btw, its my polymoog that shaped my career as an electrical engineer =]
Thank you! You are right, it is going to be hard to find a 10k ohm slide. The slide is broke. somthing knocked into the slide during shipment and destroyed it. It cracked the back of the slide in half. I am learning a lot working on the polymoog. I am majoring in electronis. If it was not for some of the classes I have taken and a good tech book than I would be stuck.
That is a great video! I wish moog would re design the polymoog with todays circuit technology. That would be great. They are not as bad as people say. I found that if you re solder all the joints on the boards it plays a lot better. It is a lot of work, but it works. That is what I have been doing the last few days with one board. Your right, there is a lot of Vox Humana in Pleasure Principle. It is still a good album.
Hi Synth, excellent you getting hold of a PM. Good luck with your restoration, I'm in the middle of restoring mine as we speak. If you need a copy of the full service manual let me know.
Alfred Deblasi was my first Polymoog video. The meowing at the neighbor's door was classic. The Italian personality set the tone. I wish that they would come out with a virtual polywog, as I call it. I noticed a 203 with a serial above 3000 on ebay for a grand. I also bought some Numan CDs after listening to your version of AFE. Nice stuff, most of it. Pleasure Principle uses the Vox Humana a bit much, though. He has good beats and riffs.
I got to give it to man, your a genies if u pull it of....lol not that I doubt it but you should be working for a repair shop like Sam ash or Guitar center or some thing....

Thanks, It is going to be a lot of work, but it is worth it to me. I would like to have a synth model too. I can already tell you that this thing is limited. What presets it does have are cool.
