Camera shaking and out of focus, not a good idea to film in front of a window with the sun shining in... On top of all of that... The angle of filming was behind your hand.
Poor guy, his dreads are gonna look like a ridiculous wig for a year now. Too thin compared to section sizes making the scalp show, requires constant maintenance to keep the same look (in case someone has bad enough taste to prefer that look).
isnt that putting knots in the hair i dont think its necessary and why fancy the name its a tool u use for doing latch hooks u can buy from any beauty store
...because "crochet hook" is easier to say than "a tool u use for doing latch hooks u can buy from any beauty store." It is a crochet hook, which you can also buy at any art supply or sewing store, and it's used for knitting and crocheting.
Hmm, I wonder how about doing a four (or more) point tightening meaning latch from North, then East, , then South, then West. Wonder would it make any difference inthe lock.
yeah i agree: though it might be different and acceptable for afro hair, for straight hair you need a lot more work and effort to knot it.
Best way is to start by re-sectioning and finding which dread the loose hairs belong to. Then clockwise rubbing for a while with a aggregating product in the hair. Do that for a while, it will knot up. Once this is done, you need to use the crotchet hook to drag the hairs horizontally into the dread, over and over, into the same general spot on the dread.
latching only makes the dread thin when you pull too tightyou must alllow the dread enough room to swell my son has been growing his locks since he was 2 years old he's now 7 and hid locks are the shit.
You are very generous!!! Thank you for posting this; my kid's locktician refused to explain to me anything- she costs so much and lives so far from me! Thanks for teaching it to me!
to prevent all that loose hair by the root all you do is constantly twist the lock but if you get lazy like i have done in the past this happends I have latched only one lock ever I dont like latching because its not a twist and it throws off the formation of your locks growing and latching makes the lock extremely thin.
depends on your hair texture. braids, two strand twists, comb coils, latching/ interlocking, back combing, or freeforming/ neglect are methods used to start locks on all hair types. if you are white/ have straight hair, back combing and interlocking may be the easiest to start with. just research and pick the method that you feel would be best for you. once you start, you can maintain by twisting, interlocking, or nothing
i started mine with braids and i maintain by interlocking/ latching
thanks. im white and have really curly hair so i am going with the neglect method right now and i kinda do the interlocking every now and then. i really just want them to start forming :/ but patience is key
Wow this video has gotten a lot of hit. The funny thing is I recorded it for a friend. She needed to know how to do my hair since my sis in the video moved out of state. Thats why the quality is bad I only had one take. I don't even have dreads anymore. Anyways enjoy the vid.
yes, of course! It does, however, depend on the type of locs you have to determine what you do after. for all of them be sure to let your hair dry and air out completely (try not to use heat)
i thinking about getting dreads and i need to know what is the best thing to start with some ppl tell me lock and twist hair gel and some ppl say bees wax
Is this an alternative to twisting with like say a wax? I have a family member with locks and does not like the locking gels and waxes. Can these method be used instead?
you really shouldnt do this to your dreads.when your hair grows longer you will see the pattern thats happening here it makes your dreads look more like braids its really just a quick way to get you dreads hard but in the long run doesnt make them look like proper dreadlocks
I've been palm-rolling and latching locs for years. Once the loc is mature, it's usually difficult to determine which technique is used. It's a matter of preference since each technique has benefits and disadvantages.
My locks were long before I cut them. They really looked good using this method. I noticed no patterns in my head that stood out. But I guess to each there own. It all depends on what type of hair you have. My locks were thin so maybe it works better on thin locks.
No. If i'm understanding it, this is a technique for "tightening" the new growth area via knotting (or knitting) the new growth as close to the scalp as you can get.
I've done the same just by knotting (no knitting needle needed) thinned-out areas of my locks (due to over rolling/tugging/etc.). I can save a lock by this method--but my locks aren't super-fat.
It wouldn't work for "thick" locks (or thick areas of locks) due to the "knot" produced. The bump/knot would be noticeable.
Also, when I do my knots Its only usu. along the LENGTH of my locks not at the new growth area. I do them wherever I find a tugged/stretched-out area to save/stabilize the remaining lock.
See also: Maintaining dreadlocks with a crochet hook by hayleen3 (it should be at the drop down list to the right -) for another good crochet technique.
The knots can fade into the general lock over time, but only if they arent too chunky.
Thats was me getting my hair done. My sis was doing it and she is 28. This was not meant to be a youtube how to. I just recorded it to show a couple of people how to do my hair. I actually just cut of my dreads last Monday. So I have no more use for this.
My friend did this on her sons hair and his was about index finger thick. The locks will be smaller at the root when you first do it. Also it will be harder to pull through. But once you wash it everything falls in place and looks good.
Could I use this technique to add red tips to my dreads that I have already? I think I have to buy already made dreads and add it to the end of my dreads with this hook right? Not sure. thanks
Basically yeah it's creating a clean looking knot. I normally wash my hair after getting it done and it looks great after. No jell or other crap in my hair.
OMG...thank you sooo much for this video. I have been researching how to do this method on my friends hair and it was all very confusing. Seeing it done and having a voice to guide is extremely helpful! Thanks again!
I figured that I will sum this up. She is sticking the crochet hook through the middle of the dreadlock at the root. Place the top of the hair on the hook and pull it through the dreadlock. Its pretty much creating a knot. Work your way down the dreadlock until it's tight at the root. Up and Sideways...

now im noticing loose hairs along the sides of my dreads ( which is normal i guess)

This type of lock "crocheting" only works well for thin/"frail" locks--those smaller than the circumferencea of a No. 2 pencil.
loopy77 3 years ago
so if you have thicker locs it will make them skinny?
zhcg 3 years ago
The bump/knot would be noticeable.
loopy77 3 years ago
Also, when I do my knots Its only usu. along the LENGTH of my locks not at the new growth area. I do them wherever I find a tugged/stretched-out area to save/stabilize the remaining lock.
See also: Maintaining dreadlocks with a crochet hook by hayleen3 (it should be at the drop down list to the right -) for another good crochet technique.
The knots can fade into the general lock over time, but only if they arent too chunky.
Ill see if I can post some scans or something!
