If I'm a President at war, and I think God is with me, in fact, I say it out loud for the whole world to hear that God is with me, I believe, or it appears I believe, that I'm taking my faith into battle with me.

If my enemy was also deeply religious, but of a different faith, they would most certainly factor religion into this battle, making it not just a war on other factors, like resources, but also religion.

To clarify what they're saying, there was inflation (increase in money supply) due to credit expansion. We've always had fractional reserve banking even before Lincoln or the Fed centralized it.

But price inflation was relatively flat for a long time. Banks issued their own notes redeemable in gold, and there would be "panics" when credit contracted and they were caught short in bank runs.

Since Lincoln they have just maximized this initially mild inflationary system and created a monster.
