i heard the prime has wifi range issues, is that true?? im thinking about getting prime or samsung 7.7 3G, which one would you recommend for school?? plx help :)
@hcmta We were able to get a full download speed from an area in the house where there were three brick walls between us and the router, so I don't think there are Wi-Fi issues, generally speaking. This might have been improved by the OS update. For school, I would have thought a larger screen and keyboard would be a must, so I'd have to say a Prime.
hey Ritchie, can you please do another comparison further away, perhaps with some interference? when close up, I didn't notice much difference, but the differences came through when far away; with the ipad 2 prevailing in this aspect. Still prefer the prime nevertheless though :)
@Briiannn1 We did test further away with 3 double brick walls used as interference but the tests were not conclusive and wildly varied for both devices every time we changed location slightly. For example in some the iPad 2 would come out on top by a big margin we'd move 1m further away or to the side and the Prime would come out on top again by a big margin. We couldn't come up with anything conclusive for you guys. Check out the article on the website (RR Team - Michael).
I have one little question, I got the prime and I noticed that there is a little bit of flex, almost like the screen has popped or disconnected from the back, right on top of the volume rocker and I was wondering if you knew what that was and If I should be worried
@mjed3 That depends on exactly what you mean if your talking about an inferred transmitter on the device controlling your TV then no. However many TV manufacturers are releasing app's to do just that, LG for one, just download the LG app and control you LG TV and Home Theatre devices via the app. (RR Team - Michael)
@SantosRuu yeah, as a computer engineer student, the dock and the mouse pointer are perfect, as it makes it a LOT easier for long programming sessions... That is one of the main reasons as I changed my mind about getting an Asus Prime instead of an iPad 2... Not to talk that iOS doesn't have any kind of tools for programming in it, while android has a few...
We all love test. What we think is that either tablet is a winner. I like the prime I own the OG but you can give a iclone to a 8yr old. Root ROM Run baby
@themrjones That is one universal truth - simplicity beats complexity any day, which is where iOS hashad the edge. Android is maturing though, and is becoming more intuitive but retaining that customised OS.
Funny how, when using the same application, the ipad version animates better. I love my prime but I feel sometimes that android gets a bad rehash of these apps that first come out on ios.
@pranckstyr The Android version probably needs to accommodate the performance and specs of the many phones out there. Hopefully 4.0 will start to change that.
@pranckstyr you should know that the application has a toggle that decides how much the app will animate depending on your choice. you get to chose between performance (a lot of animations) or less animations to preserve processing power.
why are the upload speeds so abysmal? 670kbps and 460kbps are horrible when the dl speed is 18 Mbps! how is this even possible? what ISP do you have? you need to call them and demand they increase your upload speeds to a reasonable level. 1mbps at least.
@KlingonSpider True the upload speeds are not that great. I've just done the same test in my home on my PC that I'm replying on now and it came back ping 11ms, d/l 19Mbps and u/l 490kbps. I'm on the same ISP as the studio.
i did the tests again but this time clearing all of the applications running on both devices and the prime is actually alot faster but the signal is about the same now. Interesting results. Looks like true multitasking on the prime can take a toll on the network speeds on different applications
hmm interesting results. I noticed my prime's internet speed about twice as fast as my iPod 2nd gen in the same room as the router, but when further away from the router, the prime has better signal but the iPod is considerably faster internet speeds.
@1lann That is interesting, and it goes back to what we discuss in the article - once we were out of the immediate vicinity of the router, results began to fluctuate wildly. So what test really determines wireless performance?
crazy the app on transformer sucks even if quad core

@pranckstyr changing the animation refresh option in the app can let you have better animations in it.

@1lann Yep, it looks like wi-fi performance can be a combination of router performance, software, multi-tasking, and the tablet hardware itself.
