"Lick My Decals Off Baby" is my favourite Beefheart album, it's even better than TMP (which is absolutely brilliant too, but seems to be a bit monotonous). Amazing tunes.
IMHO, if you don't think the R&R Hall of Fame is a piss stain, consider this. This one masterpiece is more original, compelling and simply rocks more than anything Dr. John or Tom Waits has ever done or ever will do. My question is simply if these guys are now in (and don't get me wrong, I admire Mac Rebenack very much), why isn't the real thing?
Anyone out there got the TV commercial that was done for this album? I don't think I've ever seen it but I read about it once in a book on the history of music videos.
Brilliant stuff, long live rebel musicians. There's a great solo guitar ditty dedicated to the Captain by Ian Staples, on you tube well worth a listen.
If you really listen to this record. The way everything works. This is literally one of the best records made there is nothing like it. It is totally unbelievable!!!!!!
Thank you for the post! I had the honor of interviewing the Captain at CMU's WRCT when the album came out. The band played there, and not only were they amazingly talented musicians live, but their costumes and stage antics matched the music perfectly. This song is wonderful - always makes me think of Howlin' Wolf singing through a harmonica mic to Dr. John's band, who happen to be playing from another dimension. Yeah, they're hard to describe. "An American original" - I'll leave it at that!
The sound reproduction on this track is fantastic. If anyone can get, "Bellerin' Plane" up sounding like this it would really be a gift to art lovers.
his voice sounds great in this song! all of a sudden i realized that this sounds alot like one or a pair of the desert sessions songs. "take me to your leader", thats the one! captain beefheart really did influence alot of musicians yea!
My poor mom had to listen to this when I was living at home, c. 1970. It's great music, but not for her. I haven't heard this in 35 years. Long live CB.
good luck "buying something"... Decals is not available on cd. It was but Warner pulled it. You can find used on Amazon for like $50 - $150 depending on condition.
Love this song, and Captn Beefheart. Amazing. After about 20 pints down the pub, This song has so much meaning. you want to leave everything, and move to cleethorpes, and join a commuine, No disrespect to anyone living in Cleethorpes, great song to vacum to, and dance around the room naked too, I know, Iv'e try'd it. wonderful. LOL.
Thanks for posting this. An obvious masterpiece, although of which type of music, I really couldn't say. One is tempted to be profound with this song, but I prefer to simply enjoy it. I like the good Captain, of course, but the Magic Bands of Trout Mask Replica and LMDOB were sublime as well. Bill Harkleroad (aka Zoot Horn Rollo) was a truly gifted and original guitarist. Still, it's a travesty that Beefheart is still not in the R&R HOF.
Zoot definately was an underated beast at guitar. If he had gone with any other band at the time, he would probaly be way more well known. Beefhearts work had to be done by someone though.
@jfrankley55 Fuck the R&R HOF. It is a bullshit publicity con and does not a mean a DAMN thing !! look at who has been inducted and who hasn't and that should tell you its politics.
A request: currently there are 8 L.M.D.O.B. tracks on youtube. Can you upload the remaining tracks, please?
(Currently "Peon", "Woe-Is-uh-Me-Bop", "Japan in a Dishpan", "I Wanna Find a Woman That'll Hold My Big Toe Till I Have to Go", "Petrified Forest", "The Buggy Boogie Woogie" and "The Clouds Are Full of Wine (Not Whiskey or Rye)"

It's a shame that this album isn't more well known. It really is a fine companion piece to the madness of the 'Trout'.

Weird. When I tried searching before, I couldn't find it. I guess you have to be careful with the keywords you enter. ;-)
