I think the orchestra here is very poor. No forward momentum. The tempo is so slow. I love DH, but this doesn't really sound like verismo to me. Listen to Merrill and De Los Angeles as a point of reference.

How boring ... in my opinion this is not the right way to sing "verismo" - it looks like Mozart : verismo is blood , sex , feelings , emotions and so on .... I suggest to listen this Duet with Pacetti or Kabaivanska , or with Callas or even better with Scotto and Teresa Sttratas , especially in the Edition of Teatro alla Scala conducted by G.Pretre !

Yes, it's unfortunate that she has been so vilified for being so attractive. When the package is that pretty....oh well. I like her qute a bit. I think she artificially darkens her tone to sound a bit bigger than a lyric, but I believe it is essentially a very lovely instrument. Besides, look at her career! I wouldn't mind having one half as nice as hers! Hvorostovsky has a lot of the same issues, both vocally and professionally, but he sings everywhere, too! Good on both of them!!

Yes but the difference between Netrebko or Anna Moffo for example is that Netrebko has no musicality and shallow at all times. Her poor enunciation is unmatched by any soprano.

That is the best I have ever seen that duet sung. I just loved it. It doesn't hurt that both of those great singers are really hot. DH did a great job on his aria excerpts. His legato is always to be praised. Did I mention that they are hot. Just making sure.
