This video is bogus. There's no indication as to which video card either system is using. I have a Radeon 4850 and it can't handle Crysis on max with 4x FSAA under Windows 7 or Vista. I use to have a X2 4200+ and it choked on Crysis. Thankfully with my new system I went with an Intel Q9550. Sorry AMD, but you're barely in the race.
First of all they are only comparing the integrated graphics in this video (DUH!). Also don't expect a midrange card to get excellent frames in Crysis with 4X AA. You should have gotten a 4870 instead. Also it would be completely stupid and dishonest to compare an entry level CPU such as the X2 4200 to an extremely high-end CPU like the Intel Q9550. Now if you were to compare the Intel Q9550 with the Phenom II X4 955, then the AMD CPU would have identical or faster performance in games.
Who in the hell uses integrated graphics for gaming? The Radeon 4870 doesn't do much better than the 4850 especially since I have this thing overclocked. The Phenom II X4 955 is the best thing AMD has to offer and on Far Cry 2 my CPU has better performance benchmarks. Also I have it running at 4Ghz.. I don't want to be stranded like I was when I bought a socket 939 MB w/ Athlon 3800+ in 2006 thinking that I can upgrade later. The socket was discontinued after 2yrs. I had to go on eBay. Lame.
Yeah well i got bad news for you then the LGA 775 platform is dead. Intel is moving everything to the LGA 1366/1156 sockets. There isn't going to be another new Intel LGA 775 core processor being made, because the Core i5 series on the LGA 1156 are replacing the Core 2 Quad Q9xxx series on the LGA 775 socket. AMD's AM2+ socket platform on the other hand can support all the AM3 processors including AMD's upcoming Thuban 6 core proessor via bios update.
Intel will only not develop a new 775 processor, they will still continue to supply them which means if I wanted to upgrade to a QX9650, I can without having to search on eBay of all places. The 775 is still their largest profit source. Besides, the warranty I got on the CPU, motherboard and RAM allows me to upgrade within 2 years should my system become outdated in that time. I supported AMD for a long time and I got shit on.
Nope sorry look at Intel's road map the Q9xxx is the end of the line. They aren't going to make any new core logic processors for the Intel lineup using the LGA775 platform. The LGA 775 platform was dead as soon as the LGA 1156 debuted in which the Core i5 series will take over wherew the Q9xxx left off.
If that's the case then why are stores still recieving new shipments? I confirmed with Memory Express here and they said that they will continue receiving shipments because Intel will be graduallly phasing out the 775 through reducing supply, not abruptly terminating manufacturing.
Intel maybe still making the processor due to their licence agreement with vendors until that licence agreement expires, but the platform itself is dead. Intel will not be making anymore new core logics for the Intel LGA 775 platform. The Core 2 logic was the end of the line on that platform. This is were the Core 'i' series on the LGA 1366\1156 platforms takes over.
AMD on the other hand continues to support AM2+ processors by making AM3 processors backwards compatible with the AM2+ platform. Even the newAM3 AMD 6-core logic coming out will be backwards compatible with the AM2+ platform.
Like they did for the socket 939? AMD thinks more is better which makes sense since some of Intel's dual core CPU's outperform some of AMD's quads. I'm sticking with Intel considering it has more software support from companies like Adobe.
According to Memory Express, Intel is making them because it's their largest profit market. The i5 and i7 are still too pricy and until the price drops or AMD releases an equal, Intel is going to continue supply chips.
Intel is moving to the LGA 1156 socket for it's mainstream and budget line by sometime in next year.
AMD never proclaimed anything with S939. S939 lasted a good 2 and a half years. Hell at least you could change out your processor and upgraded to a dual core on that platform. Where as intel screwed over people 2 times on the LGA 775 platform. The 915/925 chipsets for example were not Dual Core compatible. and nor alot of 945/955 chipsets Core 2 compatible.

well, if i was you i would get an amd phenom 2 x2 550 or a phenom 2 x3 720. those are both awesome processors, you should check out my video, i have the phenom 2 x2 550, and i unlocked the other 2 cores making it a quad core processor for 100 dollars that runs as fast as a q9400, which is over 200 dollars.
they ARE socket am3, and your motherboard is socket am2+, but the AMD was very considerate in thinking about this problem, so am3 cpu's work in am2+ socket motherboards. all you would need to do is drop the processor in and it would work, and for 100 dollars, the phenom 2 x2 550 is a completely kickass processor.

tell me the exact model of your motherboard, and i can tell you if you can "unlock it". from there, i can tell you how. watch my video on my channel, it shows that i unlocked mine, it shows the processor as a phenom 2 x4 b50 processor. idk why, but in the begining, it shows the box of the phenom 2 x2 550 as proof.
oh darn, that motherboard has the sb700 south bridge. you need the sb710 or sb750 south bridge chipset to use ACC, auto clock calibration, in order to unlock the 2 disabled cores. you would need a new motherboard. but i would stick with that phenom x4 9600 BE, thats not a bad processor. its not great, but it will definitely work fine. try and see if it is overheating or something, and if it is, get a new heatsink. but the best processor to get for that would be a phenom 2 x4 920 or 940.

well i personally would look into checking out if your cpu is overheating, because that is a decent processor, and should be fine for a few more years. if its overheating, theres a cheap fix: just get an arctic cooling freezer 64 pro on newegg, 30 bucks. its a great heatsink and fan that will chill that processor and keep it from crashing, but make sure the problem with your processor is that its overheating before you spend your money. continued in another comment ^^^^^
if your processor is NOT overheating, it could be buggy drivers. try reinstalling drivers or updating them (graphics card, service packs for vista, etc.)
if you really would like to have a cheap upgrade and just have it running nice, you should look into a phenom 2 x4 920, or even the 940. those are both great processors, and should suit you well. that motherboard you have is decent, but for a mainstream user, its sufficient. continued in another comment ^^^^^^^^^^
there is also the factor that your motherboard chipsets are overheating, in which you would need to open up your case and clear out some dust or somethimg, maybe buy a few case fans or something. if your chipsets are overheating, maybe a new motherboard would be a healthy choice, but if you did that, you would need to erase your hard drive and reinstall windows, blah blah blah. so first thing you should do is check if youyr processor is overheating. if it is, you know what to do

it definitely could. google "speedfan" and install it, and once its running, look at the icon "core1, core2, core3, core4" etc and tell me the degrees C it says, or you can take a screenshot of speedfan, upload it to tinypic, and send me the url for it and i can tell you if its overheating or not.

i just upgraded to a Phenom II X3 720, on a Nvidia 8200 board i don't use on-board video but it's good to have a back-up (i bought the nvidia board, because it had a spdif port which the amd's in the same price category did not)
the potential problem, of intel's poor on-board GPU's is that it will put people off.
which means people will think intel's cpu's are no good, while in fact some of them are performance wise better than what AMD has to offer, but due to AMD's on-board gpu advantage, the overall user experience is improved and this makes not only amd's gpu look better but also Amd's CPU's.
a good chipset and a good on-board gpu makes good marketing sense.
That processor is based on Phenom, so has a better archtecture, faster HT-Link, faster RAM support etc. and should overclock to 3.2GHz happily :) An awesome cheap chip.
NAAA buy what i did buy the new 940 x4 denab black edition, it's got the world record on overclock right now at 6.5 ghz. It clocks at 3.0 ghz right out of the box, best AMD out right now and very affordable and it fairly competitive with the i7's.

This video is bogus. There's no indication as to which video card either system is using. I have a Radeon 4850 and it can't handle Crysis on max with 4x FSAA under Windows 7 or Vista. I use to have a X2 4200+ and it choked on Crysis. Thankfully with my new system I went with an Intel Q9550. Sorry AMD, but you're barely in the race.

First of all they are only comparing the integrated graphics in this video (DUH!). Also don't expect a midrange card to get excellent frames in Crysis with 4X AA. You should have gotten a 4870 instead. Also it would be completely stupid and dishonest to compare an entry level CPU such as the X2 4200 to an extremely high-end CPU like the Intel Q9550. Now if you were to compare the Intel Q9550 with the Phenom II X4 955, then the AMD CPU would have identical or faster performance in games.

Who in the hell uses integrated graphics for gaming? The Radeon 4870 doesn't do much better than the 4850 especially since I have this thing overclocked. The Phenom II X4 955 is the best thing AMD has to offer and on Far Cry 2 my CPU has better performance benchmarks. Also I have it running at 4Ghz.. I don't want to be stranded like I was when I bought a socket 939 MB w/ Athlon 3800+ in 2006 thinking that I can upgrade later. The socket was discontinued after 2yrs. I had to go on eBay. Lame.

Yeah well i got bad news for you then the LGA 775 platform is dead. Intel is moving everything to the LGA 1366/1156 sockets. There isn't going to be another new Intel LGA 775 core processor being made, because the Core i5 series on the LGA 1156 are replacing the Core 2 Quad Q9xxx series on the LGA 775 socket. AMD's AM2+ socket platform on the other hand can support all the AM3 processors including AMD's upcoming Thuban 6 core proessor via bios update.

Intel will only not develop a new 775 processor, they will still continue to supply them which means if I wanted to upgrade to a QX9650, I can without having to search on eBay of all places. The 775 is still their largest profit source. Besides, the warranty I got on the CPU, motherboard and RAM allows me to upgrade within 2 years should my system become outdated in that time. I supported AMD for a long time and I got shit on.

Nope sorry look at Intel's road map the Q9xxx is the end of the line. They aren't going to make any new core logic processors for the Intel lineup using the LGA775 platform. The LGA 775 platform was dead as soon as the LGA 1156 debuted in which the Core i5 series will take over wherew the Q9xxx left off.

If that's the case then why are stores still recieving new shipments? I confirmed with Memory Express here and they said that they will continue receiving shipments because Intel will be graduallly phasing out the 775 through reducing supply, not abruptly terminating manufacturing.

Intel maybe still making the processor due to their licence agreement with vendors until that licence agreement expires, but the platform itself is dead. Intel will not be making anymore new core logics for the Intel LGA 775 platform. The Core 2 logic was the end of the line on that platform. This is were the Core 'i' series on the LGA 1366\1156 platforms takes over.

AMD on the other hand continues to support AM2+ processors by making AM3 processors backwards compatible with the AM2+ platform. Even the newAM3 AMD 6-core logic coming out will be backwards compatible with the AM2+ platform.

Like they did for the socket 939? AMD thinks more is better which makes sense since some of Intel's dual core CPU's outperform some of AMD's quads. I'm sticking with Intel considering it has more software support from companies like Adobe.

Intel is moving to the LGA 1156 socket for it's mainstream and budget line by sometime in next year.
AMD never proclaimed anything with S939. S939 lasted a good 2 and a half years. Hell at least you could change out your processor and upgraded to a dual core on that platform. Where as intel screwed over people 2 times on the LGA 775 platform. The 915/925 chipsets for example were not Dual Core compatible. and nor alot of 945/955 chipsets Core 2 compatible.

well, if i was you i would get an amd phenom 2 x2 550 or a phenom 2 x3 720. those are both awesome processors, you should check out my video, i have the phenom 2 x2 550, and i unlocked the other 2 cores making it a quad core processor for 100 dollars that runs as fast as a q9400, which is over 200 dollars.

they ARE socket am3, and your motherboard is socket am2+, but the AMD was very considerate in thinking about this problem, so am3 cpu's work in am2+ socket motherboards. all you would need to do is drop the processor in and it would work, and for 100 dollars, the phenom 2 x2 550 is a completely kickass processor.

tell me the exact model of your motherboard, and i can tell you if you can "unlock it". from there, i can tell you how. watch my video on my channel, it shows that i unlocked mine, it shows the processor as a phenom 2 x4 b50 processor. idk why, but in the begining, it shows the box of the phenom 2 x2 550 as proof.

oh darn, that motherboard has the sb700 south bridge. you need the sb710 or sb750 south bridge chipset to use ACC, auto clock calibration, in order to unlock the 2 disabled cores. you would need a new motherboard. but i would stick with that phenom x4 9600 BE, thats not a bad processor. its not great, but it will definitely work fine. try and see if it is overheating or something, and if it is, get a new heatsink. but the best processor to get for that would be a phenom 2 x4 920 or 940.

I know everyone wants something good and cheap, but I am not 100% a computer guy. I don't have to have the best, just a lil something to keep me a float and allow me to learn a bit more about cpu's.

well i personally would look into checking out if your cpu is overheating, because that is a decent processor, and should be fine for a few more years. if its overheating, theres a cheap fix: just get an arctic cooling freezer 64 pro on newegg, 30 bucks. its a great heatsink and fan that will chill that processor and keep it from crashing, but make sure the problem with your processor is that its overheating before you spend your money. continued in another comment ^^^^^

if your processor is NOT overheating, it could be buggy drivers. try reinstalling drivers or updating them (graphics card, service packs for vista, etc.)
if you really would like to have a cheap upgrade and just have it running nice, you should look into a phenom 2 x4 920, or even the 940. those are both great processors, and should suit you well. that motherboard you have is decent, but for a mainstream user, its sufficient. continued in another comment ^^^^^^^^^^

there is also the factor that your motherboard chipsets are overheating, in which you would need to open up your case and clear out some dust or somethimg, maybe buy a few case fans or something. if your chipsets are overheating, maybe a new motherboard would be a healthy choice, but if you did that, you would need to erase your hard drive and reinstall windows, blah blah blah. so first thing you should do is check if youyr processor is overheating. if it is, you know what to do

it definitely could. google "speedfan" and install it, and once its running, look at the icon "core1, core2, core3, core4" etc and tell me the degrees C it says, or you can take a screenshot of speedfan, upload it to tinypic, and send me the url for it and i can tell you if its overheating or not.

the potential problem, of intel's poor on-board GPU's is that it will put people off.
which means people will think intel's cpu's are no good, while in fact some of them are performance wise better than what AMD has to offer, but due to AMD's on-board gpu advantage, the overall user experience is improved and this makes not only amd's gpu look better but also Amd's CPU's.
a good chipset and a good on-board gpu makes good marketing sense.

That processor is based on Phenom, so has a better archtecture, faster HT-Link, faster RAM support etc. and should overclock to 3.2GHz happily :) An awesome cheap chip.

NAAA buy what i did buy the new 940 x4 denab black edition, it's got the world record on overclock right now at 6.5 ghz. It clocks at 3.0 ghz right out of the box, best AMD out right now and very affordable and it fairly competitive with the i7's.
