  • The Mazda RX7 only needed 3 generations to win the world over.

Please do not even compare a failed rally-bred car with a true Japanese legend. What a joke today that the Evo has been crushed by all the European marques in rallying.

One minute they were WRC champions, and for very much later and today, they can't even compete in the WRC senior class

  • Honestly, who really cares about the HKS CT230R or whatever Evo?

The FD-RX7 is a creation since 1992 (20 years mind you), looks stunning till today, and can stand side by side or even beat the top Japanese sports cars of today.

Where the hell was Mitsubishi 20 years ago? Their engineers were probably in diapers still, and the worst part is they were en-route to building a 4-door sports car that looks absolutely ordinary and would need to be updated 10 times in order to create a reputation?

    !

  • lol this competition is getting out of control remember some years ago which cars were around?

  • keiichi's nsx had so much better engine sound than this, but its nice to see an fd do such a good time on tsukuba.

  • very random, but what is the name of the song at the last 10 seconds in the vid? O and very badass that the rotary is throwing it down like that.

  • Chris rado's sciontc can kiss my ass i prefer this nice rx7 :)

  • very good

  • does anyone know what that shift is called?

  • @a2dds i think sequential transmission...google it or search in youtube

  • ナンバー付違うがうし何しても良かったら53秒は・・・

  • Tsukuba record holder is ARTA NSX 51sec yrs bck

  • Nice, almost beat the Tsukuba record holder HKS EVO 53.589 with a RWD....impressive!!!!!

  • @srrtbb HKS' website states they are at 54.739 and the ARTA NSX is a JGTC car, not a "street production chassis" car. So, for now, the Revolution RX-7 is currently the fastest.

  • @EleganceAutoDetails Thanks for the info, but you lost me on the ARTA NSX! Where's the NSX time in this vdo or the lab record? Did ARTA NSX beat the track record? Either way bad ass time attack and awesome car/driver/team!!!!

  • @srrtbb Someone who posted just after you mentioned the ARTA NSX, which is why I included it in my response. The ARTA NSX is a JGTC car, making it a "race only" car, which did not retain it's STOCK chassis. Although the RX-7 looks like a JGTC car, it still has it's full stock chassis technically making it still a "street car:" There are many track records, it simply depends on what category. An F1 car would simply run 37-42 seconds on Tsukuba (My guess)

  • @EleganceAutoDetails Thanks for the information. Youtube & magazines is the only sources where I get my time attack news!! Anything below 1 minute mark is consider fast there, these damn things are stupid crazy fast. Can't wait to see who's the next king of Tsukuba!!!

  • If he didnt burp the throttle at 2:00 it probably would have been 53.59 sec lol

  • what gloves are they?

  • うん、確かにものすごく速い!

    しかし雨宮なき今、いつ、どこで、何を目指すのか?

  • kicks supra and skylines asses!

  • Dear Santa...

  • Damn, that's some series speed for FR lay out!!! Great driving/car!!!

  • sounds good just idling

  • it looks like the GT version more than a time attack car

  • Damn, this guy was really firing on all cylinders that day! (pun intended)

  • @ogdew1712 "firing on all cylinders"? In a rotary? Cylinders? ;)

  • @orochithing- Since 1991 leman winner 4 rotor race car leman haters banned all rotary entries this haters don't want Mazda name to beating them again like Mercedes,BMW ,audi, ferrari, porche so call top of the line shit

  • Can someone explain why the shiftings like that??

  • @orochiThing its a sequential gearbox. look it up

  • @mongoangry Whats the benifits of a sequential vs manuel?

  • @orochiThing Manual cars, you have to shift into its position. Sequential, you just bump it up or down, down for upshift, up for downshift. Sequential and TripTonic are basically the same thing, btw TipTronic is Paddle Shift.

  • @JeepYJJunkie So why dont they just install this this more manuel type racing vehicles. Its on an rx-7 which is clearly over 10 -20 years old.

  • @orochiThing I don't understand what you said that much, but I'll do my best to explain it. Slap-shift (sequential) is easily shifted, and you have very little chances of mis-shifting unlike a manual. Manuals, even if you have drove one all your life, can be mis-shifted. Say you go from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 5th. That costs at least 3 seconds right there, even if its just a slip-up. Slap-Shift, all you do is just pull the knob back and you're in the next gear. I will explain more if needed.

  • @JeepYJJunkie Most racing companies in japan have promos seen on T.V to show there kits and car modifications. They only use a quick clutch and the original style clutch and shift style. My question is, why don't they add this shifting style to their cars as well. This doesn't look like it can support the new types cars only anyways because it's seen on a car that dates over 20 years old.

  • @orochiThing Lookup the price of a Hollinger, Xtrac, Hewland etc. Add flatshift and you'll be looking at least $15K - only for serious competition cars.

  • @fudgenubs There are r34s in japan with over 100k usd in modifications and still with the default manuel system

  • @orochiThing Then there are the quick ones that have a dog engagement racing gearbox. But then again these gearboxes are high maintenance which puts most casual tuners off.

  • @fudgenubs Im not talking about casual tuners, I mean the tuning companies that pay tsuchiya to test their mods on tv.

  • @orochiThing Most cars I've seen on that show are still daily driven street cars. Besides most of these companies don't produce or sell these gearboxes - most of them are outsourced.

  • @fudgenubs so in conclusion, these gear boxes are more affective but most companies just arn't capable of producing them??

  • @orochiThing Yes - its a specialist area in motorsport. If you want to have a better understanding of these gearboxes open up a gearbox from a motorbike - its the same in principle.

  • What a weapon!!!

  • This FD take so long to win 53 sec for HKS Evo time attack by now its already about 52 or 50 sec if they still continue to race This FD can tell that still only around the Cyber Evo

when you hear the engine sound, the FD something that force the engine for Evos engine sound are soft i don't feel like its the end of the max speed for both cars.

  • I think the FD will eventually beat the NSX here.

  • Where can I find the specs on this car?

  • So...is the HKS & Cyber EVO in a different class then this FD?

  • @Law19157 the cyber and hks were in Open4wd and the fd competes in Open-tb

@gav240z just google search revolution rx7. If i remember it uses a crossported 13b, HKS to4z making around 450hp, they say that if it ran slicks instead of semislicks it would easily be able to handle the 500+ range its capable of putting down and possibly beat the gt500 arta nsx's time

  • @tflLoTuS Ummm....can FIA GT & LMP1 cars compete in Open-tb? cause in RedLine Time Attack the all wheels dominate...it seems to be the case here as well

  • @Law19157 no all cars must be on production chassis and actually based on a real car

  • @mongoangry FIA GT cars are real cars

  • @Law19157 but they are on a tubeframe

  • @Law19157 actually most of the top cars are rwd, and most of them are fds, with the notable exceptions being the hks evo, cyber evo and tomei/cusco impreza.

@masrider555 not sure what youre saying mate. the hks ct230r ran 53.589. this ran 53.6xx, with less hp, with rear wheel drive. also how can you not love the sound of that semi PP? its brutal :D

  • The production chassis excuse already is old. The HKS Evo isn't even close to a "street car." Not even remotely, if anything it's on it's production chassis so it can use that excuse. If the car follows the rules and regs of the race it's in, than it's legit. If to cars are in the same power class, ie unlimited, modded, street, etc, than you can compare them. Plus any car that sounds that good is a winner in my book.

Also it's about damn time rotaries started winning/breaking records again.

  • the corner entry speed on the last section was amazing!

  • this car is akin to a super gt car more than a time attack car...

  • 53.6 sec's wow! Rotary power at it's best rotary cars are taking all top 1st spots in japan racing classes, gtrs are going down

  • @BAHO30 yea man, why do you think they banned it from the le mans

  • @BAHO30 lol.... the gtr?????? ha!! the evo platform still owns TA globally... rotary has to get by that old iron 4g before you can claim "1st" for rotary....

  • @BAHO30 Lets just hope they dont get banned for being to reliable like LeMans :D

  • The dash setup is a scream.

  • the soundddddddd

  • Eventually using the excuse, "this car is using it's production chassis" will get old...

  • insane car!!!!

  • Keiichi Tsuchiya, AKA drift king, I believed have the fastest time on the circuit... .51 sec

  • @synco357 the car he used was a gt500 car (if i'm correct) gt cars are not in the same class as these.

  • You guys know that this RX-7 is still 2 seconds away from beating the HKS CT230Rs time, right?

  • @symustafa1996 its the closest so far though

  • @symustafa1996 isn't the HKS CT230Rs record time is 53'589?

  • @SinHarvest64 Wasnt it 51 something?

  • @symustafa1996 nope, pretty sure it's 53'589. Meaning that this car just needs a lucky run to beat it. Either way i think this car is in a different league.

  • @SinHarvest64 Yeah, kinda hope it would beat the HKS's time. So they would build even faster cars to beat it.

  • @symustafa1996 the hks can't get faster unless they build the car upon a tube chassis like this car but that'll only shave off prolly 2-3 seconds at most...

  • @SinHarvest64

IMO, I got more respect for the HKS Evo since its on its production chassis. This car is so close to a GT500 car.

  • @SinHarvest64 the CT230r could MOST CERTAINLY have gone faster with more development, NO DOUBT.

"only 2-3 seconds at most..." ... that would put it near a 50.xxx lol

The CT230r is not the running King of TimeAttack any more, it has some records that have been hard to topple since its retirement, but there are cars running in 2011 that have the potential to topple it. They are all Evos, lol, but still, there are more capable cars, finally. The CT230r has been GOD for a long time.

  • They are getting to Super GT levels.

  • Shxxxt!!

  • simply amazing

  • !!!

  • I Absolutely hate the fact that the did this car with a tube-chassis. But the rules of the Tsukuba Time attack states nothing about the type of chassis that is permitted. I myself think that it's kinda unfair. I freaking love RX7's but at the same time i don't consider this car a real rx7 because of the chassis. With the budget invested in this car they could have just kept the original car chassis and it'll still be hella fast. It's a great car either way...guess i'll be rooting for Re-Amemiya.

  • @TJisILLMATIC It's a sequential shifter, instead of the H-pattern shifter to change gears you simple pull down to gear up and push forward to gear down. Makes a big difference when doing competitions like this but the down side is that it's really freaking expensive.

  • @SinHarvest64 Hell yeah its expensive hewland 6speeds are 25k or something like that new in Japan, and if you want one in America for the fd its another 15k for shipping

  • @tflLoTuS what you're say does not make any sense. why would something thats ships from the UK cost way more to get to the US than it does to japan??? i'm guessing that you mean the shipping from japan to us is 15k? so the only way that the US could get it is to have it shipped from the UK to Japan then to the US? sounds ridiculous! and 15k for shipping? is it jet rushed then heli drop at your door over night???

  • @dorio180 An fd owner looked into it to have one that was made for the fd when in japan. It had something to do with the fact you have to use a shipping crate because of the size to import it to US. might have been a bit less than 15k LOL got excited but its pretty much your first born child

  • awesome Run by this wicked looking wide body Sev!!!

  • Was this tuned by Rice Racing with water

  • @SP2333 Way to troll, you know this car costs more than most exotics right? and goes faster too right?

  • If the Rx7 were running Advans instead of Hankooks, there's a chance it could have performed better. Keep that in mind when comparing the HKS evo to the Revolution FD

  • what yokohama tires are they running?

  • that is so blindingly fast. makes me proud to own an fd.

also lol at 20b/cosmo/3rotor tags since its a 13b

  • Damn cool sounding, looking and performing car! I would just love to have one of these as a daily driver, I could cry of laughter thinking about the faces that the "regulars" would have or even the cops! Although, my adventure would end facing the reality of trafic jams, poor quality roads and the curse of Europe, SPEEDBUMPS!

  • @eeeen321

seriously you're an idiot to say this car is BS, you NO facts to back-up your claim that its "BS"

this car is an engineers dream, its only a few milliseconds away from the overall record and its RWD...STFU and GTFO

  • This car is sick... and still has a lot of room for improvement on the setup becase this is the only second time at the track

  • I think if Mine's were too make a Track prepped R34, they would have the Tsukuba record. The Original Mine's R34 GTR clocks in at 57 sec in full street trim.

  • this Rx7 will take out Taneguchi and the hks evo8, by the way who is the driver for this Rx7 anywase?

  • @madmestesoskillz: Driver is Yasushi Kikuchi. He is actually here in California this weekend for the Buddy club Project X event @ Willow Spring Raceway.

  • That's insane fast.

  • issues with the strain guage in the sequential shifter? looks like he has 2 bites at changing gears down the back straight?

Either way, great lap. Hope its allowed to run in Aus.

  • Super!! Japanese, Lemon Squishy, Apex Seal of the FUUTUURREE!!1!!

  • Awesome! So worthy of the WTAC!

  • It's not the fastest lap ever. HKS still holds the record. It is the fastest for a RWD time attack car. It is also not a 3 rotor. It is a 13b turbo. I think it will be the fastest TA car overall pretty soon though.

  • pure porn.

  • track was built in 1970 this is the fastest lap ever.

  • @xraidedlok HKS EVO went faster.

  • but they got this laptime with traffic on track....

  • @shishisu Traffic definitely didn't get in the way, but yeah, there were cars out there.

  • @DPerjar nope fastest is 54.7

  • @xraidedlok Wrong.

  • @xraidedlok no no fastest is tsuchiya in the arta nsx 51.875

  • @xraidedlok Are you bloody serious mate? 54.7 fastest? what year are you from? The HKS posted an official time in 2008 of 53.589 sec. This Revolution Rx7 posted a 53.673 sec lap time.

  • @madmestesoskillz well said, this is BS as far a "new benchmark"..... the CT230r still holds... and just wait for the current build Cyber Evo to run at full bore, or SSE's crazy evo.... the CT230r's record will fall at some point soon, but I bet HKS has something in the works.

  • Amazingly fast, really impressive to see that thing fly over Tsukuba. Sounds nice as well, a 3-rotor I guess?

  • I've been following this car since it's original build. Great to see it live up to its potential.

  • Not much RX-7 left in that thing. Still more impressive when streetable cars are breaking 1:00, which are all Skylines and Evos.

  • @SpoComMedia

A lot of AWD turbo cars do well. A few STi's were on the 1:00 barrier this year as well.

  • does he get to go on facebook on that flatscreen? :p

  • Awesome car, great driving, and very close to HKS that is one of the biggest aftermarket parts maker..
