black smoke is not a good thing. it means you are over fueling for the amount of air in your engine. diesels get 6x the air they need, so u are over fueling it alot

it makes the turbos spool faster meaning more boost at lower rpms meaning more torque meaning more hp. deisels are a little different than gas. extra fuel doesnt rob power near as much as in a NA gas engine.
